My husband, daughter (aged 4) and I stayed at Sandymouth Bay for the first May Bank holiday weekend and had a brilliant time.
We stayed on a hard standing site with our VW camper.
It was quite windy over the weekend but considering the location not far from the cliffs with outstanding views of the coast and sea, our pitch was relatively well sheltered. It had a hedge on either side and a bank at the back.
The camping field also had fabulous views and gorgeous grass but a bit exposed.
It's a beautiful unspoilt location with bleating lambs in the field opposite.
The indoor swimming pool was well heated (31 degrees) and although the kiddie pool is small, it's next to the large wide steps of the big pool so the kids spend plenty of time running between the two. The slide was basic but huge fun.
The pirate ship was excellent and my daughter adored it. She needed a fair bit of help climbing up the ladders to get to the slide though and did fall off at one point as the ladder was quite tricky for little ones.
The shop was well stocked and open all day which was great.
We were surprised the entertainment was on, and the highlight of my daughter's stay was when one of the staff dressed up in a huge Flounder outfit, and she might as well have been at Disneyland for the impact.
The toilet and shower block was a bit tired and the shower temperature not able to be regulated (we needed to warm up under the shower and my daughter got really cold once dried and getting dressed). The shower heads weren't great though water flow was sufficient. We had most of our showers at the poolside instead.
The beach at Sandymouth was a short drive, but really beautiful and unspoilt. It wasn't busy and the sand was lovely. There were little streams to dam and divert. The beach did get completely covered at mid to high tide and the top of the beach was cobbles and not so easy to walk on.
We will definitely be going back.

What a superb site this is. Cornwall is always a difficult place to choose a campsite in, but Sandylands ticked all the boxes and more. My 3 year old girl was speechless when she saw the lifesize Pirate Ship playground and it was only the lure of the entertainment (and her boyfriend Martin!(the rep))that kept her away from it.
The facilities are superb and I have never ever been to a cleaner site than this, even the gardeners seem to work 24/7. Spectacular sunsets were had every night, and the evening entertainment suited all ages and tastes. The restaurant served both pub style snack food at a very reasonable price, and for a bit more you could enjoy very well cooked and presented larger meals of a quality you would not expect of a holiday park.
The staff were ultra helpful and made you really feel welcome and managed to keep my hyperactive 3 year old entertained all night.
The local beach was slightly dissapointing as it is a bit further than the site makes out, and has a steep hill to access, and was very difficult to access with a pushchair for our 9 Month old, but it was clean and unspoilt. The bonus was a little cafe serving food, drinks and beer, although the car park was very crowded and not cheap. A better beach in my opinion was to be had at Bude, just 10-15 minutes drive away and has more to do if kids get restless.
The one downside to our holiday was that other sites we have stayed at have offered an extra night for £30-£50 if required. We asked, nay begged to stay an extra night but we were told this wasn't possible, a shame and a missed opportunity for them, as the park was only half booked and we loved the site so much that we would have paid another £100 for another couple of nights.
All in all the memories of the holiday will last a long time and as such we will definitely be visiting again, we have to as our daughter is lovesick and wants to marry Martin!

Just returned from sandymouth after a week's holiday during the school half term. It was extremely busy. This is our 3rd visit and we normally go in school term time when it is quieter and shocked to see just how busy the school holidays are. The only downside to the campsite is that there were no seats in the clubhouse in the evening, so we ended up in the arcade till late until seats became available. But there maybe plans to extend the clubhouse next year.
On the plus side the staff are the friendliest I have ever met, nothing is too much trouble.
The swimming pool was as warm as ever, clean with good shower facilities, be aware though they are unisex cubicles that are open top and bottom so kids etc can peep under! There was also no working locks on the doors which can be embarrassing. A shame really as only a small job to replace to save modesty. Hopefully they will be mended for next year.
The bar drinks are reasonably priced for a camp-site as is the well stocked shop. I did find the flashing toys behind the bar expensive though.
The site itself is well kept and the fact they don't accept pets makes it even cleaner and safer for children to play on the large grassy fields.
We stayed in the portafino plus which was very comfortable, clean and had fantastic sea views. Our friends stayed in the bungalow which was also to a very high standard, clean, well furnished and big!
The entertainment team are fantastic and worked really hard keeping the children occupied during the day as well as the whole family in the evening with activities. I enjoyed the pumpkin carving which they provided the pumpkins for free. So if the weather is bad you know there is something for the children to do. This is not a child minding service, adults need to be around with younger children.
The Kids play area is great, enough room to play even at busier times. Bikes can also be hired for small price which is a great idea.
The campsite is well situated for local facilities and attractions, sandymouth beach is lovely and if you are feeling fit then it is walk able but if not there is a car park there also.
Overall I would recommend this camp-site to anyone. Prices are good, accommodation is excellent, staff are brilliant, site is clean, neat and tidy and we have enjoyed it for the past 3 years and will return again. It being busy did not put us off at all.

This place has been redeveloped with children in mind and they have got it very near perfect. The pirate ship playground is great, the club is for kids till around 9ish with a daily visit from flounder or the crab (can't think of his name) from the little mermaid. Everything is free playground, pool, crazy golf, kids club and large playing field saves loads of money.
The site itself is very well kept and pleasing to the eye no matter where you look, toilets and showers are clean and there were plenty of them, free of course, staff always find time to ask hows it going? and have a chat. There is a huge tent field and 23 touring pitches which brings me to the only down side on the site, the lack of shelter from the wind off the Atlantic. The tent field has hardly any, there were a few tents blown down in the wind during our stay, the touring pitches are sheltered from a northerly or easterly wind but are just as open to a southerly or westerly wind which will come from the Atlantic but you cant blame the site for the weather can you. They have planted some bushes which will when mature give touring caravans some shelter but not much.
All in all it was a very enjoyable stay would we go back?.Yes with out a doubt but I'd either leave the awning at home or get one of their very nice statics that have amazing views out across Bude bay, sandymouth bay is excellent value for money, I would and have recommended it to family's looking for a great holiday.

Well worth a visit if your staying in a static caravan or a logde. Points to note if you are staying in a tent as we did. We had a service pitch all of which were situated on quite a steep slope. Due to been on top of a hill there were fantastic sea views but beware - when the wind comes you know about it! All the facilities and staff were excellent, washing facilities spotless, play area for children good as is the on-site entertainment and bar. As I said previously this site is mainly geared towards lodges and caravans. Hope this review helps.

Just returned from a visit to Sandymouth and would very much concur with comments below, particularly with regard to staying in a tent.
The site itself is excellent; good facilities, lovely toilet block with free hot (very hot!)showers available at all times (although only cleaned once a day), everything on site free to users, excellent for children. The food in particular we thought was very good value and good quality - especially the children's menu and take away options. The pirate ship play area was a huge hit with my two year old, even though some of it was aimed at children older than her, she would have played all day!
The only moan would concern the camping field. We stayed in lovely weather and so our visit was fantastic. Situated high above the cliffs, the views are sensational and, with guaranteed good weather, we would certainly return. However, I don't think it would be ideal in bad weather! There is still no road on the camping field and no drainage either. Having spoken to campers who had been there longer than us, they confirmed that the field was a swamp the previous week and, with rain on our last day, it didn't appear that too much rain would be required to return the field to that state.
Overall though this is an excellent site which provides an excellent base to explore this stretch of coast. If the camping field could be brought up to the same standard as the rest of the park then it would be even better!

We have just returned from a week at Sandymouth Bay holiday village in a six-berth caravan. I wanted to say how much the holiday was enjoyed by all the family (ages from 7 – 76). It far exceeded our expectations, largely due to the high quality of the facilities on site. This is a fantastic site and standards of cleanliness are very high: they have their own road sweeper, and even hoover the children’s play area daily! There is so much to do for the children - ours loved spending all their time in the Black Pearl adventure park (which is well run and monitored by staff). All staff are friendly, helpful and courteous and genuinely want to go that extra mile to make your holiday more enjoyable. Food in the restaurant is very good and reasonably priced and well worth a visit if you do not fancy driving out to a country pub (they also do a take-away service and will deliver to your caravan). I booked Sandymouth due to the excellent reviews I had read online, so I wanted to post my own review to confirm just how good it really is. We are not a family who would normally book a caravan park, but enjoyed our holiday so much we have already booked to return to them next year! We really couldn’t fault a thing, and have already recommended the site to family and friends.

Have just got back from here a week early because of bad weather, and camping field was a bit muddy! site is fantastic, the park is brilliant, and the kids played on here for hours when the sun shined! pool is fab and the cafe and bar really good, and not over-priced. One of the best things about this site, apart from the cleanliness, is the staff. Nothing is ever too much trouble, they are very helpful and really kind. We are returning next year for our third time because we love the site and the surrounding area.

This is our second visit to Sandymouth Bay and with 7 adults and 7 children! 4 generations of one family plus friends - and what a fantastic time we had! Some of us stayed in one of the renovated wooden lodges, some in a fairly basic caravan and some in a portofino with balcony and sea views. All of the accommodation was of a high standard, clean and all of the facilities we needed-and more-were there, clean and comfortable. The new playground based on a pirate theme is amazing and the kids spent hours playing on it. Even though the week we were there it poured with rain this did not stop the fun because there were enough indoor activities to keep everyone entertained. Evenings are great at Sandymouth with the entertainment led by Chris - who will probably book annual leave when he realises we are coming back this October!
The swimming pool is beautiful and clean as well as being lovely and warm and was the main reason we booked again this year - you'd think no-one else had ever used it!
We would highly recommend this park as it has excellent value for money combined with fabulous staff and amazing facilities!

Excellent site, visited it partly using reviews off this website & was not disappointed. Site is well maintained & very clean, whilst there they had garden contractors in keeping the well kept hedges maintained. Touring pitches very spacious, more than enough room to park caravan, full size awning & car with space left over. We went during Oct school holiday week so was a little cold, but the 16amp power supply was more than enough to allow us to keep electric radiator on. Showers/toilets were spotless & heated for the morning & evening wash times. Views from the caravan were stunning, could see miles of the coast line from the caravan window. Business end of the park had a adventure playground in the form of a pirate ship which our 8 yr old son lived on. Typical shop on site selling the usual. Clubhouse & bar was excellent. We were told that they have been recently extended & refurbished. Good entertainment especially the Halloween party night where even myself & wife got dressed up. All in would recommend to anybody. In fact have already booked twice for 2009, one week in summer in caravan & one week for Oct hol week in wooden lodge which they have 4 on site. Just hope they have the Halloween party again.
