This was the third time we've visited this site. The wardens are helpful and friendly. Plenty of walks from the site, including Kinder.

Facilities good, heated and well maintained. Site flat which makes pitching easy.

Pub just over the road does good meals and is open in an afternoon.

This is a beautifully positioned site, not too large, standing on flat ground alongside the wooded valley of the River Sett. The site is divided into two sections, one for motorhomes and one for tents.

No caravans since the access road is quite narrow, although providing little difficulty for driving with a motorhome. The motorhome area has plenty of hard standing pitches as well as grass pitches and the electricity supply seems to be good.

The toilet and shower block is clean and spacious, with plenty of hot water. There's a laundry room and a large open but well covered and sheltered washing-up area. A small shop in reception sells basics, including an excellent booklet of walks. We didn't look at the backpackers' hut and drying room, but were happy it was there if we needed it.

The site is very well maintained, tidy and clean. Our only minor complaint would be that there are too few lights around the motorhome area for walking from pitch to toilet block after dark.

The site is right next to the Bowden Bridge car park, from which the original 'mass trespass' onto Kinder Scout set out, (when it was a quarry) in 1932, and started the mountain access we take for granted these days. This makes a great walk from the site, and there are several other good walks which start from here too.

The stroll along the river path into Hayfield village takes only 10 - 15 minutes, and the flat walk along the Sett can be enjoyably continued to the next village of New Mills.

The Sportsman pub is only a short walk from the site too

Fantastic site. Just one mile from the town centre, with a pub nearby that received a good review from fellow campers I spoke to.

Lots of space to pitch my tent and a backpackers shelter with drying room was available.

Staff were very friendly and the bathroom facilities were excellent. One man on foot with his tent cost £5. 45

Excellent site in a great location. Really enjoyed our stay at the site and made very welcome.

Everything is clean and tidy and the local pub which is only about 400 yards away serves great food. There's an excellent toilet and shower block as well as a backpackers room.

Added to the nice reception area with all of the basics on sale you really cant go wrong staying here.

We love this site and normally visit at least twice a year with our 8 and 4 year grandchildren, plus the dog! We try to arrange the visits to coincide with the May Queen parade in the spring and the country fair in the new autumn.

It's an easy 15 minute walk along the beautiful river valley into the village, the grandkids love it as there's a wonderful children's play area on route, so a 15 minute walk normally takes an hour and a half.

There are numerous walks from the site up to Kinder Scout, one day we'll get the little ones all the way up, but a 6 hour round walk is still beyond 4 year old legs!

We have always found the wardens most pleasant and helpful, while the facilities may not be the most modern, it has very thing you might need and is always clean. A real jem of a location.

Excellent campsite within an hour and a half of home. We have been back again since first discovering the site in June this year.

Basic but cllean and well maintained facilities and short and pleasant walk into the village of hayfield, where there is a huge children's playground and a selection of local pubs and shops.

Small playground also at the camp site and a small shop (at the reception) which stocks basics. There is also a family shower room which was great with 2 small children.

Staff cant do enough to help out (we went shopping and forgot milk - one of the staff was popping into town anyway so brought us some milk back)

Will definitely be returning next season

One thing I will mention is to make sure you take insect repellent and citronella candles, quite a lot of midges about in the evenings

First Hayfield village - the streets are narrow with much on-road parking. There are five pubs, sorry we didn't try any of them, a general store, post office, pharmacy and chippy. It is about a mile from the actual campsite which is further up the steep sided valley.

Secondly, the site: we had a friendly welcome. Apparently it is often quiet in the week but full over weekends. Reception sold the basics. The toilet block was new and clean but would probably struggle to cope with sheer numbers if the site was full.

There is a very small children's play area but this is really a site for adults walking or cycling in the north west Peak District, particularly Kinder Scout. However don't expect a complete rural paradise - you are under the flight path to Manchester airport! Planes come over about every 15 mins but, thankfully, there seemed to be very night flights.

There are two camping fields. Not sure who gets allocated to which. One side has tarmac roads for the motorhome hardstandings and camping pods with some grass pitches. The other side is a large grass meadow with a gravel track and the pre-pitched tents.

There are only a handful of electric hooks on this side. A backpackers cabin with a drying room and an undercover cooking area is a welcome addition. I suspect this field could get swampy and midge infested in warm, wet weather.

A superbly located site and well run by friendly wardens.

The site is on the edge of Hayfield and about a mile walk, much of it along a riverside path. The Sportsman pub is 300 yards away, does very good pub food and has well kept Thwaites beers. It is very child and dog friendly.

The site is bisected by a path that takes you up to the lower reaches of Kinder and is absolutely blessed with brilliant walking on the doorstep. Hayfield is in a steep sided valley with a number of great hills for walking. There is also the flat Sett Valley trail to New Mills. This is approx 3 miles from Hayfield (4 from the site) along an old railway line.

Access to the site is through narrow streets in Hayfield, hence the no caravan rule. We have a small motorhome and had no problem but larger motorhomes may struggle getting through the village.

The single toilet block is clean, modern and heated.

Another great visit to the C+C site at Hayfield. As always the staff were really friendly and helpful.

The site is immaculate and it's obvious a lot of effort goes into keeping it that way. Hayfield itself is only a 10 minute walk away down a easy path.

Nice pubs and the chippy is good. We had our pre-walking curry delivered from Glossop as the restaurant in the village has long gone. We're empty-nesters now but if you have young kids there is a small play area on site and a great playground a short wander down the path in the village.

The site location is perfect for walkers as it's situated next to the meeting point of the Mass Trespass and a good range of routes for those that want a grind up to Kinder and Bleaklow or a wander around the local hills. No caravans can access the site as the road leading to it is too narrow and winding so do take care, especially if you're in a sizeable motorhome.

We are in a 6m Boxer and it's a case of crossed fingers there's nothing coming the other way in parts. Can't wait to get back for a good stomp around the plateau and a lovely site!
