We have just returned from a fantastic three night break in a static caravan at the Black Mountain campsite. We enjoyed every aspect of our holiday, from the spacious, clean and warm caravan, to the amazing scenary and the welcoming Cross Inn pub (where we actually enjoyed watching England lose the rugby world cup due to the local banter!) There are lots of things to see and do in the area, we really enjoyed exploring the mountains, visiting the red kite feeding station, and enjoying one of the coldest but most memorable days of our lives 'wet gorging' at the Black Mountain activity centre (40 mins drive from the campsite). We would recommend this as a holiday for anyone who enjoys life.

I came away from Black Mountain with conflicting feelings. For the majority of our stay it was a wonderul place to be. Although there were many small improvements that could be made. Like having an ice-pack freezing service that didn't require you to disturb the owner in his house, and having a mirror next to the hairdryer (50p) in the ladies' shower/toilet block. Overall the sheer beauty of the view from the tent field, and the peace and quiet, was enough to override any little complaints. However, the site was to change dramatically when the August Bank Holiday rolled around. More and more campers arrived and were crammed into the tent field so that it began to resemble a car boot sale. I also had cause to complain about noise at one point, and was very disappointed with the way the owner dealt with my concerns.
Having said that, I want to reiterate the peacefulness of the site for the rest of our stay, and the stunning views. Black Mountain is definitely worth a visit, but possibly not at Bank Holidays if you are after a rural idyll. And I can confirm that the Cross Inn's Tuesday curry nights are great value and very tasty!

Visited over the bank holiday weekend, but still got the pick of the pitches. Great ground with amazing views over the mountains. Good mix of families and groups, very friendly atmosphere. Clear nights, perfect for star gazing. No campfires allowed. We found that there were only 2 showers for ladies, one of which didn't work and the other only had cold water so bring the wet wipes. Please note the shop is shut and the closest, a Texaco garage, is a good 15 min drive away.

A lovely peaceful site with fantastic views of the Black Mountain from the top field. Toilet facilities are OK. Showers are 50p but campsite is quite cheap so I had no objection paying this; especially as they were controllable enabling one to shower at the temperature of one's choosing, and long enough duration to do whatever. There are separate covered areas for washing up etc. The pub right next to the site serves good food at good prices. The landlady was very friendly and welcoming. I was there on a Thursday and was gutted I missed a curry night on Tuesday & the quiz night on Wednesday. There are some great walks nearby which take you right into the heart of the beautiful Black Mountain escarpment and corrie lakes. The abundance of red kites and other birds is a bonus.

Decided on this site as we wanted some peace and quiet and Black Mountain Caravan and Camping Park was a good choice. It is an incredibly peaceful and tranquil campsite that has far reaching views over the mountains. We chose a pitch with electric hook-up and this was in the main part of the park with some static’s. These pitches didn’t have as good a view as the main camping field but were spacious. I was a little disappointed at the toilet facilities as these could have been cleaner and the hot water seemed to expire after about 10:30 but overall they were adequate for our needs. The owner, David, was helpful and polite, providing us with an electric hookup extension and a useful folder of local activities and venues. The Red Kite feeding was an amazing site as they swooped and soared over our tent. The Coaching House Inn at Trecastle provided some good food. Overall a lovely break.

Stay there on the May Day weekend. Very helpful owner as my jeep would not start and he help me very grateful. We enjoyed the red kites as they flew over our tent and the rest of the wildlife we saw eg rabbits, woodpeckers, owls and lots more. The toilets and showers and washing were brill and the pub across had lovely food and beer and was nice has well. We will come again.

Like a previous post, the first thing that greeted us as we approached the site, was a sky full of red kites, just brill. Hard to put your tent up while constantly looking at the sky! Lovely little site, and when we arrived we were given a choice of fields, we like the last post, went for the mountain view option. Facilities were clean and tidy, didn't seem to be enough for the size of site though. Despite the site being on a crossroads and next to the pub it was very quiet, a definite site to go back to, please go and see the kites being fed, the money charged goes to the red kite trust, a great site.

First weekend camp of the season for us & what a treat! The Black Mountain is an awesome place. We drove over the mountain to reach the site & the scenery was truly spectacular. The main site was quiet & the only disappointment was the only EHU available was limited to near the static caravans (not the most scenic part of site). We pitched up in a quiet spot though & David was a star helping us with our EHU. On the weekend we stayed there was a school pitched up in the field with mountain views. I understand usually this is where most families are located, so in view of this I think we had a lucky escape (us being quiet types)! Unfortunately the schoolkids seemed to somewhat hog the facilities which made showering an impossible mission, but I'm sure this was an exception to the norm! We ate at the Cross Inn where the food was plentiful and cheap, it is advisable to book though & it was very busy on the Saturday night. In all a really nice weekend. Llandeilo is worth a visit (great ice cream shop) & would like to visit this part of Wales again soon.

We stayed for 3 nights over Easter at this excellent site. Quiet and peaceful, despite being a Bank Holiday, with excellent views of the Black Mountain. On arrival, we were shown the three tent fields and told by the owner that it was our choice where we pitched, no contest, we opted to wake up with the mountain outside out door! Fresh water is available in the field, with showers etc only across the lane (remember to bring 50p's for the showers!) Bring all your supplies unless you plan to drive to nearest shop, but otherwise, we couldn't ask for more from a campsite.we will definitely be back! P.S. have a meal in the Cross Inn over the lane - excellent food at reasonable prices.

A beautiful location which was spoilt by the toilet and shower facilities being unserviced. One of the men's showers was broken for the whole week we were there which left only one, there was no soap in the hand basins nor means to dry one's hands. It felt that the owners just took the money and were indifferent to the needs of the campers. Some campers partied all night and the site owners seems not to care. Sadly I would never stay there again.
