We have being visiting Abersoch for years now, but this was the first time we had stayed at Nant Y Big.
We were greeted by site warden Eifon, who is really helpful and a top guy. He pointed us in the right direction to the family field and told us to take our pick of the EHU pitches, great start.
The majority of the pitches are flat until you get up to the top end of the field where there is a slight slope, but we've camped on worse inclines.
The facilities are in portacabins, they are kept spotless and the showers are free. Pot wash is adjacent to one of the portacabins but could do with a cover for when it's raining. Which it did!
There is the option to camp on the top field (no EHU) which has stunning views over Porth Ceriad. From the family field you can use the private road to get to the beach which is only 10/15mins walk away. Ideal spot if you're a surfer.
Although a short run in the car to Abersoch or the Spar shop for provisions, it means Nant Y Big is away from it all and have to say we like it like that.
Not that we're sticklers for rules but they seemed to be adhered to and all was quiet after 11pm.
Great spot for chilling out, walking on the beach and headlands.
We would happily recommend this site and we will be returning to Nant Y Big, its a great site, lovely location and friendly staff!

We Stayed at this site for 3 days and enjoyed it so much helped admittedly by lovely weather.
The site is situated about 1 mile from Abersoch with stunning views all around.
The facilities are first class with toilets cean and the grass cut short. It is only about 5 mins walk from the nearest beach with other spectacular beaches nearly.
Our visit was helped by the cheerful warden.
The only minor adverse comment was the lack of a notice advertising the site on the main road.
We will certainly be returning

Brilliant site, amazing location. Really well organised and run without feeling too 'military'. The staff were really friendly and recommended where we should pitch - the panoramic field 'as the forecast is not too windy'. We got a stunning pitch on the top of the cliff looking out across Porth Ceriad.
There's so much space on the site, whilst it was great to have neighbours to chat to, we didn't feel we were crowded. The site was quiet and you've just got the sound of the countryside/waves at night.
On our last morning, the wind picked up slightly which made putting the tent down slightly more difficult, so if there's forecast wind, I'd ask for a more sheltered spot - the owners have the weather forecast up on the office/caravan and are very knowledgeable to advise.
The showers are in a portacabin and when I used them were lovely and hot and free, no need to queue at 6pm. The loos again are in a portacabin, kept very clean and stocked with toilet paper.
The only very slight criticism is the pot washing area didn't have very hot water. There's a freezer in the pot wash area to put your freezer blocks in, no charge, we didn't have a problem finding space, apparently peak times it may get full - but a great idea.
The walk down to the beach is a slight trek down hill (and a hike back up) but is not too bad, my 3 year old son made it no problem. This is summer holidays but the beach was not ridiculously busy (unlike Abersoch which we briefly visited and came away quick!).
The site is quite easy to find if you use a sat nav to get you close and then the instructions on the web site. All in all a fabulous site, we'll be going back.

Spent 4 nights here last week. This is our 4th visit to this site as we love it. Great site with few rules but they are effective & reasonable. Don't like sites with lists of rules and regulations. Very basic with clean toilets, hot showers and plenty of room to pitch your tent. We don't have EHU so can't comment on those pitches.
Access to the beach on foot is the main reason we love this site. It doesn't get busy probably because you can only get to it on foot. Bit of steep climb but not that challenging if you're fit & able. We haul all our beach setup down for the day and just sit back and enjoy.
There was plenty of wild life watching too. We saw dolphins every morning in the bay then a seal popped up to the surface to check out our dog swimming. Back at the tent we were entertained by stoats running around the shrub playing and hunting. Perfec for star gazing at night too.
We took our 1yo and he loved the freedom of running around. Not sure about older children but there is plenty to occupy an imaginative child with a sense of adventure without relying on playgrounds etc.

We stayed at this site for five days in july and then another six days in July with out two berth caravan.
It's a great site, we stayed in the family field the first time and it was quiet the second visit we were in the field above the main site, this has fantastic views over the beach and sea.
The wardens on this site are very nice and helpful and I'd certainly recommend this site as it's only 5 maybe 10 mins walk to the excellent beach. I'd certainly go again

This was our first visit to Nant Y Big and we were very impressed. Firstly the warden was very pleasant and helpful especially with his long range weather forecast on display at the site caravan/office which was accurate.
The site is positioned down a lane near to the beautiful Porth Ceriad beach which is National Trust and about a 15 minute walk down the path and steps from the site and sometimes you will see dolphins from the cliff top and beach.
We were pitched on the family field which is close to the free showers and toilets which were always clean whenever we used them and plentifully stocked with loo rolls!
Also the showers were always hot. The weather was kind to us that (half term) week. We will definitely visit this site again with its happy, friendly atmosphere.

Just returned from a very windy but very good trip to nant-y-big.
The campsite is on the cliff top, but there is a choice of a number of fields. I mistakenly thought the more inland family field would be more sheltered, but it wasn't! Thought the roof was going to blow off our campervan.
Mr Jones, the Warden, came over to check if we were OK in the morning, and suggested a more sheltered spot that we could move to. He was really friendly and very helpful. Eventually found a slightly better spot by a hedge, with stunning views of the sea.
Facilities are basic but just about enough, and the location on the cliff tops is well worth. Took a walk round the headland and saw Dolphins and a Seal playing in the sea!

We stayed at nant-y-big for 3 nights and we think it is great, cost 8 pounds per adult per night and 3 pounds per child per night, the showers and toilet block were great(showers very hot and free)great location for beach, there is a 10 minute walk down the lane and down the cliff steps to it but it is great once there, but no toilets.
It does state in the description that the beach is near to the site but there is a symbol saying beach on site this is not so.
Abersoch is a 5 minute drive by car a little harder to walk as there are narrow lanes with no footpaths, great place!
The only little moan I will have is that the 'family camping field' happens to be the last field from the toilets whilst 2 caravan fields are closer, think this is wrong as caravans tend to have their own toilet inside.
The washing up area also could do with being under cover but hey bit of rain never hurt anyone!
All in all will be returning to this site its a great location and very friendly!

We are a family of four; Mum, Dad, two daughters (11 and 8) and a dog. Nant y Big is undoubtedly the best camp site we have ever used but no site is perfect. Plenty of space for tents - the site was 'full' when we stayed but there wasn't a tent within 60yds of us.
There are only two showers (which don't have lights in) but the hot water is plentiful and they are free (take a lamp with you and a chair - if like me you need to sit down to put on your socks) They are busy at the busiest times but I shower just before bed and never had to queue.
The beach is fantastic - yes, you have to walk to it - 10 mins maybe - yes, it is uphill coming back (that is the nature of beaches) if you have a dog it is perfect - there are no facilities at the beach (this is a good thing) - it is uncrowded, at times almost empty. The nearest town is Abersoch which is a beach/tourist town - plenty of places to eat and adequate shops - there is no shop on the site.
You are left alone and while we were there everyone was polite and friendly. The grond is flat, and the views fantastic (it is windy - it's on a cliff - what do you expect?) and there are loads of rabbits to chase.

We have just spent 3 nights at Nant Y Big campsite, we had assumed, reading the website and reviews, that this site was situated close to the beach. This is not the case, the beach is quite a trek, downhill, which took about 15 minutes to reach and even longer to get back to the campsite as it was uphill coming back.
There is a road which takes you about a third of the way down which is accessible by car, but unfortunately, the owner of the land charges a whopping £3.00 every time with threats of being clamped if you're not off the road by 8.30pm. We were pretty gobsmacked at this extortionate charge to the campsites own customers
We paid a fair whack per night for this campsite which doesn't have anything apart from the electric hookups and a toilet block.
The site was OK, very very windy as it's situated high on a hill. The weather on our particular weekend was changeable. On the third night, at about 9pm the electric went down (for the whole site) and we had to trek down to the office to ring the owner. He basically said he didn't know if he could get the 'juice' back to the site. We were left with no heating / light for a good hour or so then the power came back (thankfully). The owner wasn't particularly concerned to be honest.
I don't like leaving negative reviews but I feel its important for other potential customers to be made aware of all the pitfalls etc. And with this particular campsite you might be expecting beach access as we were.
Abersoch is a lovely little town so we made the most of it and really enjoyed our weekend. We definitely would not use this campsite again though.
