Site is easy to find with good access and is sandwiched between a Hospital and Hatfield Cricket Club with on-site access to some woods. You wouldn't know the Hospital was there so don't let that put you off.
I found the woods a bit unsafe being a lone female and apparently its very easy to get lost in so I only ventured in there once! The King George IV playing fields are approx 15 min walk and are dog friendly so worth the walk.
There is a small shop and takeaway about a 10-min walk. Apart from that you would need to use public transport (bus station just down the road)or a car to get anywhere else.
The site is equal distant between Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield, approx 2 miles. The Wardens were very friendly and helpful and the site itself appears very well kept.

Third time on this site, so has to be ok.
We stayed again and enjoyed the site as convenient location.
Everything nice enough. Facilities ok, clean as you would expect but a little dated.
Pitches are ok size - a few smaller ones if you are late arriving. Mainly hardstanding - a few grass pitches in centre.
Access to London transport links great, we had a day out in London.
Biggest disappointment with site was that everything needed the car - could not go out in evening without driving.

This site is clean, tidy and well kept, it is ideal for London with a regular bus service to the train station where you can get a return ticket with unlimited underground travel for £13. There are shops about half a mile away from the site plus a pub that sells a good selection of beers. The site is 2 mins from the A1, easy to reach. There is not a play area for the children but it did not put them off they played happily around the site.

We stopped here for a couple of nights because of the good access into London. You can get to either Hatfield or Welwyn Garden City stations by bus which goes from just outside the site. There’s a large hospital next to the site but you wouldn’t know it, just the occasional siren in the distance.
The wardens are friendly and helpful and are more than happy to let you drive round and pick your pitch, rather than having one allocated to you. You simply pop back to the office when you’ve found your spot and they give you a gate pass. The site is well proportioned with good sized pitches and warm and clean sanitary facilities.

We used this site as a stop over on our way to Brighton; and it's a lovely little CC site with a very friendly feel.
We weren't there long enough to get a feel for the entire area but the site is very peaceful, the staff almost super helpful and it was an ideal place to stop before hitting the M25 the next morning.
Our pitch was too far from an EHU and the warden kindly loaned us a lead to help us out.
The vehicle movements in and out of the massive storage area can be busy but we found the site to be a very nice place to relax.

Having just returned from a wonderful week at this tranquil site, which we had visited with trepidation due to the previous review. The site is situated between Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield in a rural setting, on one side the 'first aid facilities' were impressive; a major hospital which you do not notice. On the other side Hatfield cricket club, we enquired about their club house, for hire if required but not on week days, noise is controlled at weekends, but this does not occur more that 3-4 times a year. Behind is Commons Wood, approx 2 miles deep and a paradise for dogs. Behind the cricket ground is Mill Green Golf Club, non-members accepted.
Commons Wood is a 75 pitch site including 46 hardstandings and I must give credit where credit is due, it is immaculate. This comment also applies to the toilet block, immaculate, warm and with lashings of hot water and as far as we could see with no lost knickers.
As for the staff, friendly, helpful and extremely hard working.
Would we go again, yes, would we recommend it to others, definitely.

This site is OK. It has easy access from the A1 and is well placed if you want to visit London. We found it best to use the train station at Hatfield rather than Welwyn Garden City. A return ticket with zone 1 tube is £16 each. Parking at the station was just over £5 for the day, however a taxi costs £5 - £6 from the site and probably safer.
The site is located behind the QE2 hospital and to the other side has a cricket club. The club does have evening and weekend parties and can get a bit noisy so best to stop to the left hand side of the site.
If honest I don't think this site is up to the standard of other Caravan Club sites. The toilet block (there is only 1 for the whole site) was never what I would call clean, the drain along the showers was always full of hair. There was a pair of knickers lying around for the whole week we were there. In the end I used our caravan.
No shop on site, they don't even sell the basics like milk and bread. Nearest shop is a over a mile away.

Used as a base to visit London show. Wardens suggested using Hatfield train station rather than Welwyn although either would be fine. Bus to Hatfield outside hospital next door to the site (5 mins) then train into Kings Cross - about 25 mins. Really easy using combined train and tube ticket for £16 each. Only problem was on return bus took a circular route into Welwyn Garden City bus station with a break before going on to hospital - about 20 mins.
Site was lovely with large pitches separated with hedges and very easily accessible motorhome service point. There were a few very large RSVs accommodated easily on larger pitches around edge of site.
We were allowed to look around and choose our own pitch before letting wardens know where we had chosen so they could give us barrier key. Nice to have this freedom.
Sorry we couldn't stay longer. Will certainly return.

Although an urban site Commons Wood is really quiet. Whilst there we were hardly aware of the hospital - certainly no endless sounds of ambulance sirens. In fact we were thrilled to see a fox walking across the central grassed area just as it got dusk.
If you visit with a dog the dog walk at the side of the site at first looks narrow and uninteresting but follow it through and it opens out into the woods with plenty of space for even the most boisterous of dogs.
Pay a visit to the Beehive pub , only five minutes walk away. We had a lovely meal here - cheap and cheerful interior with very friendly staff.
There is a lovely park just off the A1 roundabout with walks round a lake and a cafe for coffee.
There are aerial points on the bollards so tv is no problem - presumably previous contributor didn't discover this!
We shall definitely return to explore further.

A great site and easy to find from the A1. Booking in was friendly and efficient. The site has a circular layout with a central grassed area.Bordered on one side by a large Caravan / Motorhome storage area and a Cricket Field on the other. Although the QE2 hospital is close it doesn't intrude. The toilet block is clean and well maintained, there is a laundry and dishwashing area. The small information room is well stocked with re-cycling bins and a Caravan / Motorhome washing facility next door. The pitches are large gravel hardstandings with box hedging giving a sense of privacy.
TV reception is poor, but there is lots to do in the area (Spent a lovely Sunday afternoon watching the cricket next door).
There is a bus stop opposite the QE2 hospital (stand B) with buses to Welwyn Garden City. Welwyn is a lovely place with the usual shops. 'The Howard Centre' is a modern indoor shopping Mall. If you take the escalator upstairs there is the entrance to the Railway Station. A cheap day ticket to London cost £16 each (Includes Tube travel). The helpful ticket office clerk told us to pick up the discount booklet (2 for 1 attractions) got in the Tower of London for one fare! brilliant time. Trains to London from Welwyn every 20 mins.
Commons Wood is a lovely popular site, a very rural feel, plenty of rabbits and lovely birdsong and there is a pub and shops a 10 min walk away. Would I visit again. Certainly!
