 Lovely position next to the shoreline with a view over the sea to the Isle of May. Walk from site along the coast to village 10 minutes where there's a lovely harbour and picturesque village (plus Hotel for a beer which we didn't try). Great chippy but long queue although well worth the wait as best fish & chips I've had for a while. Good facilities with 2 wash blocks and all inclusive for £25 for 1 night inc EHU. Also had indoor kitchen, TV room and lounge area. Maintained well and couple of guys came round to empty the bins and clean up. Wished we'd stayed longer.

Great site with fantastic views & couldn't be any nearer the sea. Wardens friendly & helpful. Pleasant walk into Crail. Great for anyone with dogs, they are welcome at The Golf Inn & good food served there too. Only thing which lets the site down is the toilet/shower block. I'm sure there must be plans to replace it. But right now it is a cold, dark, uninviting place if there was ever one. Found it impossible to shower without soaking the floor of the changing area soaking my towels trying to get dry. In the cold. The toilet/shower block is a relic from the 70's & lets the whole place down. Wifi at £3. 50 a day a bit steep too particularly when it could best be described as 'intermittent'.

Nice site in excellent location with lovely sea views. A short walk or cycle to the village which is well supplied with shops (Co-op, Baker, Chemist, fancy-goods shop, fruit & Veg and another small supermarket) and of course a very good chip shop. Unfortunately it is the Shower block which lets this site down. There are only 3 showers (Unisex), which don't appear to be cleaned daily. Remember to take a large length of paper towel in with you to clean-up the previous user before you start as there is no mop provided for them or you to clean-up. Flexible showerhead and plenty of hot water, nowhere to put your showergel or shampoo other than the floor. Pity as it's a lovely site.

This is a lovely site with amazing sea views out towards the island of May. The toilet & shower blocks were clean and tidy but only had 3 showers for the entire site (although they were unisex, large with plenty of hot water) there is a small outdoor swimming pool on site (weather permitting lol) We had a hardstanding near the entrance which wasn't at all level and had to be accessed over grass which after a night of torrential rain proved to be extremely difficult to get off ! after 4 attempts of wheelspinning to a stand the site warden arrived with his landrover to pull me out ! The lovely picturesque town of crail with its tiny harbour is a 15 minute walk along the coastal path (plenty of places to buy fresh lobster) a few pubs and a small supermarket as well.

Well kept site in lovely location overlooking the Firth of Forth and the Isle of May. A little exposed in windy weather.
Fully serviced, hard standing and grass pitches available with camping area for small tents only. Toilet/Shower block clean but a little dated, good powerful showers. Easy 15minute walk into Crail via a pedestrian path, past the beach, through the public park or along the headland. Crail has adequate shops, excellent coffee shops and the Golf Hotel offers good food and real ales. Very quaint little streets leading down to the famous Crail harbour. Good walks in either direction along the Fife coastal path. Site is very child friendly with good playpark and heated outdoor swimming

Just back from a long bank holiday weekend at Sauchope in our tourer, 2 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 dogs. We had booked earlier in the year so we were fortunate to get one of the fully serviced pitches right down at the seafront. The inlaws had booked later and had been given a grass pitch 3 rows back or so from the front. The pitches are a fair size, big enough for our van and awning, with the car parked in front of the van. All vans have to be sited facing the sea (the views are spectacular), the grass pitches appeared to slope down, so chocks would be needed I think. Hardstanding serviced pitches are well drained, the grass pitches also seemed well drained as there had been quite heavy rain in the week leading up to our stay, but the site was nice and dry.
The site is accessed from a fairly long approach road, quite narrow, with passing places. The touring section is relatively small, most of the site is taken up with statics and lodges. The reception area doubles as a small shop, but 10 min walk into Crail and you are at a fair size Co-Op, and Spar type shop, plus greengrocer, butcher, etc. Balcombie Hotel looked nice and had a beer garden, we didn't visit though.
Crail itself is quaint, but there is not much there. The fish and ship shop is nice though.
The road that runs through the site is part of the Fife Coastal Path. Walking through the main static/lodge areas for about 10 mins brings you out at the coastal path area, a fantastic walk, great exercise area for dogs, very secure. Views are just amazing, and we were very lucky to get a good spell of weather and this just added to our enjoyment of the area.
There is a small play area on site, a games room (quite expensive, £1 per game of pool), and an outdoor heated pool which was shut - it opens from June onwards. There is a bigger playpark just a few minutes away. No football area nearby. Loads of little rock pools to explore.
The toilet block does let this site down at bit sadly. Toilets themselves are clean enough, each cubicle has a toilet and sink (but no paper towels, you have to wash your hands then open the cubicle door to dry them), the showers a hot and powerful, BUT. There is no shower curtain so the floor area where you are getting 'dried' is soaking wet. The middle shower unit (there are 3) appears to have blocked drainage, I used the middle cubicle on our final morning, and by half way through my shower I was standing in a good couple of inches of water, which was just pouring out underneath the cubicle door into the main corridor. This seemed to explain why the floors throughout the toilet block were always soaking wet with large puddles of water. Look up when having a shower, and you see straight through to a really dirty, cobwebby roofing area. It's a shame as the rest of this site is lovely.
Positives: location, views, walks for dogs.
Negatives: poor shower/toilet block, not much to do nearby if you don't have a car.
Only giving this site a 7/10 due to the toilet/shower facilities.

We were at this site 7 years ago and always said we would return. I am so glad we did return. Had a great weekend here with my wife and 4 year old who loved the rockpools right in front of our pitch. Fantastic views over the forth estuary. Good off road walk on the coast into crail[10 mins]. Longer walks if you wish. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our pitch was on the front and I was a bit concerned how I was going to turn my van and get out as we were leaving on the sunday on a bank holiday weekend which meant we were a bit boxed in. Not to worry, I spoke to the girl at reception and was told to go and enjoy myself and they would deal with it on day of departure. Sure enough when we were leaving down came the landrover and our van was on the road ready for hitching up. Well rin site. Clean and tidy. Will be back again

This site hits all the spots, and is one of the best we have visited. It's immaculately laid out and cared for, has a 'to die for' location next to the beach, fully serviced pitches, all hard standing (but some sloping) and a very good toilet block with very nice showers. Some have complained that it isn't particularly friendly, and certainly there seem to be quite a few 'rules and regulations', but we didn't find any issues with these. Recycling facilities and a games room are located at the far end of the touring units part of the site. (Most of the site consists of static units. ) We noticed that there was a go kart course nearby, but we never heard any noise from it. We also saw Eider ducks on the rocks. Very peaceful!
Top tip. The bus to St Andrews and points west calls at the end of Pinkerton Road, which is just off the coast path a hundred yards towards Crail. There is no need to go into the centre of the village to catch the bus.

Visited Sauchope for the second time for a weekend break and to do some of the Fife coastal path. Walked from Crail to Elie, about 13 miles, through pittenweem and st monans. Really good walk and lovely villages if you spend a bit of time walking around the back streets and lanes. Got the bus back to Crail for £4 per person.
Booked in over the phone no problem. No one about when we arrived at 5. 30pm but our allocated pitch was displayed on the reception window. Had to ask around for the combination for the toilet block though.
The location of this site sells it, it's right on the beach looking over the Forth estuary. The pitches are tidy and quite a few fully serviced. The rule about caravans pointing towards the sea is okay if you have a motor mover - we don't and it would be difficult with some of the pitches to drive straight on as your car will be over the edge and onto the beach. We got help from another visitor to spin the caravan round before we left, cheers for that.
The showers were powerful but not the cleanest. They could do with a mop left outside so people can give it a quick wipe in between? Also there's no plug for the sinks at the washing up area which was annoying although there was plenty hot water.
A shop is mentioned part of the on site facilities but I couldn't see anything obvious.
Only other thing is some of the pitches near the entrance aren't that level but there's a few bit's of broken slab or brick just over the grass bank towards the shoreline if you don't have your own.
A good site but a few small changes could make it better.

I stayed in this site for one night, which for me, my car and two-man tent cost £15.
I was assigned a grass spot to camp, marked by a numbered slab. My pitching spot was just underneath a raised tier of wooden lodges so I felt (and literally was), overlooked. It felt a bit odd to be pitched quite so close to others. Thankfully there was no caravan pitched either side of me.
It had taken me several attempts to get a pitch on this site - due to its stunning location right on the coast and on the outskirts of Crail it's obviously incredibly popular. The site is right on a beautiful pebbly beach looking across the Firth to East Lothian and only a short footpath away from sandy, safe beaches and the beautiful wee town of Crail with its harbour, shops and eateries.
This site only allows small 2 man tents, and I got the impression having a tent on site at all was quite uncommon - the site looks and feels designed for caravans and campers. I was the only tent camper there at the time I visited. A couple of people even commented 'ooh, a tent, there's camping here' and gawped at the tent and trangia, which made me feel a little conspicuous. No bonfires or disposable BBQs are allowed on the grass for obvious reasons, but no-one objected to me cooking tea on my trangia which I had placed on a wooden board so it didn't burn the grass.
The showers/toilets have a security code for access. Men's and women's loos and showers are in the same block which felt a bit odd. Sinks are in each loo cubicle, but the hand towels are only available outside, so the door handles are permanently wet, which was not the best arrangement. The loos are perfectly adequate, though in places a bit grimy with a slightly yucky drain and wet tiles a lot of the time - but they're really fine and there are two hairdryers, adequate soap - and piped music. The washing up area has two sinks and is outside at the back of the loo block and there was loads of really hot water - great. There is another loo block and games room at the other end of the site which I didn't investigate. For children there is a small play area with swings and a chute - plus the entire coastline to have fun in, and even a small heated swimming pool. There are electric hook-ups, chemical disposal and drinking water points (the water's a bit chlorinated I think).
Noise wise, this site was pretty quiet for a family site, which I appreciated. Mostly I could just hear the waves bashing on the shore overnight: lovely! The site is pretty windy, but I was able to park the car to give my tent some shelter and it wasn't a problem at all.
The site is pretty popular so it's busy - I think it would be nicer if there was a tent area where tent campers felt a bit less dwarfed and shoe horned in beside all the large caravans and lodges. I think the charges are quite dear for a tent, and there are no benches with a metal plate to allow stoves or anything, but as I said I think this site is really aimed at caravans and you're really paying for the great location. The same company owns the sites at St Andrews and Elie, so I wonder if those sites are set up in exactly the same way. It's an amazing location though, and whether you're doing the Fife Coastal path, interested in art and culture and history or golf or simply love the beautiful East Neuk and its beaches this place is definitely worth a visit. I would certainly visit again, if I could get booked, but I do wish it was a little more tent friendly.
