We stayed here bank holiday weekend as we were going to a christening in York. Friendly, helpful wardens, but caravans were very near each other. We and others had to keep moving our cars for seasonal owners to get their cars in beside their vans. Didn't use the shower block but was told that it was dated but spotless. There was a nice big field which would have been great for grandsons to play, had it not been for irresponsible dog owners not picking up after their dogs.

My daughter found this site quite by chance, earlier this year, since when my son has also visited. We are considering purchasing one of the lodges some time next year. The site is beautifully kept and very well managed and we found, in particular the site warden most helpful and friendly. They are a pleasure to deal with and nothing seems too much trouble for them.
We are all determined to spend lots of time here so that I will be able to see much more of my grandchildren, who live in Harrogate. We will certainly be recommending the site to our friends.

Unfortunately our Sat Nav took us into the Castle Grounds first so have printed directions on hand to avoid this.
The entrance is lovely with well kept gardens.
Warm welcome from the warden who helped us when we pointed out it was the first time we were using our caravan.
By the time we had parked up next to our van, we had a grass pitch, we were not left with a lot of space & when neighbours arrived on the other side I felt we were a little stacked up. But no one was noisy & despite one screech from the peacock a peaceful night was had.
In the morning which was a Sunday lots of people left the warden pointed us in the direction of a shop for supplies and allowed us to stay well into the afternoon to enjoy a BBQ as by now we had lots of space !
With two dogs having the on site secure dog walking field was excellent for exercising the dogs off lead.
Found the toilet facilities clean & spacious.
Would have liked an extra night to explore the castle, friendly, quiet, well kept clean site.

This was my first camping trip and I don't think we could have chosen a better place to start. The camp site is well equipped and beautifully kept with tents, caravans and log cabins all situated on site.
The wardens are some of the friendliest people I have ever come across- 5* customer service.
The toilets were clean and usuable.
Look out for the on site peacocks! The site is situated near York and Harrogate but Knaresborough itself is a beautiful little town.
Would recommend to anyone!

We have now stayed here twice and really enjoyed the peaceful laid back relaxing atmosphere. The birds sing and peacock shows us its beautiful ploom.
Yes the shower block isnt brand new but its clean and functional. If you prefer a place without lots of noise and not much going on then this is it. Perfect for us and our two dogs.
The price here is good for the type of site, you can pay a lot more in this area.
The Worlds end pub at knaresborough traditional and dogs welcome.

2xadults + 2xdogs
Location: excellent, easy in and out, pitch reasonably level. Beautiful setting amongst trees/woods. Quiet, but that's what we like.
Facilities basic, but clean and adequate, showers not very powerful, but usable.
We were greeted with a smile and a good sense of humour which made us feel very welcome.
The facilities for dogs were great, with a free run secure field, which wrapped around the site.
An abundance of wildlife (including a peacock).
Only things I would improve, are a light outside the ladies shower block, so you can see the code lock and improve the shower pressure.
We will go back again.

Not really one for the under 50's. The site seems to shut down between the hours of 9pm and 10am, it's a 'really quiet site', lots of regulars mainly in touring caravans, apparently not very fond of those looking for a sociable weekend (quiet group of sensible adults and children under the age of 10). Complaints were issued about the children having fun despite not actually being disruptive.
All that aside, if you are phenomenally quiet or minus children it's a good base for walking and sightseeing. Clean site, ample pitch room. Facilities are fairly dated and the keylock on the ladies loos needs replacing but generally clean and usable.

Just arrived home after spending our first ever night camping at the Allerton Park. From the minute I made the enquiry for availability I was greeted by a very helpful and friendly woman. We arrived later on that day. Nobody on reception but displayed on the window was a telephone number to call. In seconds we were being shown to our pitch. The park is so pretty and surrounding lodges are gorgeous and obviously well cared for.
We were nearby all facilities Wash area for pots and pans was clean and warm water on demand. Toilets were clean and we even had a bath with hot running water. We took our 2 year old and he loved every bit. All the families were really friendly and the children all played well. Dog walking area is excellent.
We read reviews regarding the peacocks, we never met them but we did hear them, it was really great to hear bizarre sounds. I am so pleased that we landed lucky with our first attempt to camping and this was a success and we will most certainly be booking again.

I could sum this site up in just a few words.
Tired, run down and in need of updating.
Toilets and showers were not cleaned while we were there and are like old style 70s billets.
For 19 pounds a night not good value for money.
A decent childrens play area would be nice and a little more space between the pitches rather than trying to cram as many in as possible.
There are loads of empty ex static pitches, obviously static owners leaving and new ones not coming in, not surprising really considering how run down the place is.
How on earth its got a 2009 david bellamy award and a 2010 rose award. Those organisations obviously dont go and inspect.
Hardly ever anyone in reception so if you need a warden make sure you get the telephone number in order to contact them.
Would go back here only if the owners had spent a lot of money bring the site back up to a reasonable standard. Until then we will stay away.

We have just returned from a relaxing weekend at this site.
** Please note only one resident peacock and he was not a problem **
The wardens are very polite and helpful. The site catered very well for the statics and log cabins. The touring field is a bit of a squash when full, only taking about 15 units.
The location of the site was lovely, very nice position. Easy access form A1.Within walking distance of Allerton House(Tours are pricey at #9.00 per person).
The facilities on site were disappointing and we ended up using our own. Not very clean, extremely old. After one of us experienced an ice cold shower !
Very small play area aimed at smaller children, nothing for our two aged 14 and 12.
