This camp site is very basic. The toilet shower block is dreadful looks more like people are permanent here and I do not know why. Online and on the phone we were quoted £55 for 5 nights but on arrival we were charged £70. Not worth it, spend a bit extra and get a decent site. In the loo your legs were round your neck. Will not visit here again.

Came back to this site after a few years and very pleased to see they have taken notice of all the comments and put in a new toilet block and showers. Much better now and I'll certainly be back again as the location is fantastic in the middle of rolling hills and countryside and of course the famous well endowed man is just down the road. There's some good local pubs and fishing lakes just down the road with the chance of a monster catfish.

I agree with most of the things other people have said about this site, which I would guess hasn’t changed much in years.
The washing facilities are rather basic and a bit tired but they work ok and the toilets were clean. However 20p gets you very little hot water in the shower and there’s still only 1 shower for men and 1 for women.
What hasn’t been mentioned much in recent reviews is the traffic noise. The road running next to the site is quite busy. Maybe you don’t hear it so much in a motorhome or caravan. I’d suggest to campers, get as far away from the road as you can.
The grass is well kept and it’s not expensive to stay there. It's on a hill which can be a bit windy but there are plenty of flat places to pitch a tent. The surrounding countryside is absolutely lovely. Cerne Abbas is nice but a bit far to walk.

Another peaceful visit to Giants Head, we were here last 4 years ago or more and have just had another lovely break. This site is a real gem if you are looking for peace and quite amongst some of the most wonderful countryside in Dorset.
Popped into the village of Cerne Abbas and had some of the best cream teas we have ever tasted at Abbots Tearooms.
Basic but exceptionally clean wash and toilet area, the owner said the whole toilet block was going to be revamped this year.
This is one of the best camp sites we've been and certainly won't leave it for another 4 years before we return.

This was our third visit to Giant's Head Caravan Park. The owners were as friendly as ever and welcomed us as if we were old friends. We were able to choose our usual pitch, which was spacious, level and close to the dog walking area. The grass was superbly maintained and hard and dry underfoot, despite recent rainfall.
We enjoyed a quiet couple of nights, with no disturbances. We explored the local village of Cerne Abbas with the help of the Murder Mystery Treasure Trail, (available from reception) which was great fun and helped us find all sorts of quirky and historical information about the village. We enjoyed a superb meal at The Gaggle of Geese pub in nearby Buckland Newton, a short 2 mile drive/walk away.
This is a beautiful area of Dorset and Giant's Head Caravan Park is ideally situated as a base to tour the whole area. If it's peace and quiet you're after, as well as a friendly welcome and fantastic scenery, then you won't be disappointed.

Stayed here in tent with wife and 2 kids under eight. Once we paid were told to find our own pitch.
Just one shower each (20p) for men and women. Wife had to wait half an hour to use, then only got a few minutes hot water.
Nice countryside views, but part of the campsite being used for old cars, caravans and vans.
Woken at 11pm by vehicles coming in, and again at 5. 30 am with vehicles going out. Liked the area, lovely villages to explore. Would definitely stay somewhere else next time.

We were walking the Wessex Ridgeway and had phoned ahead to find out if they were open to backpackers and for the rate as it mentions special rate for lightweight camper. I was quoted £6 for 1 night. When we got there we were charged £10 for the night which I consider steep for out of season and we were on foot with a tiny backpackers tent.
The grass was nice and short and we found a level spot which might have been difficult if it had been busier. As there is no shop we walked into Cerne Abbas which is approx 30 mins without heavy rucksacks. Which is a drawback if you are very tired and without a car. I had not expected a shop to be open though, this early in the year, if they had had one. My walking boots were very wet and they kindly let them dry out in their kitchen overnight.
The toilet block is very basic, which is OK, but the shower cost 20p for a few minutes of a trickle of hot water in the most dire surroundings. The whole toilet and washing facilities could do with updating.
I would not bring children to the site, only if you are only planning to sleep there and nothing else.

There was 18 of us that stayed on this site including 8 children, we had no problems with them being able to play including ball games. The site is basic with clean toilets only one shower though but there was no queue when we stayed but might be a problem if site was full. Facilities could do with updating but hey its a camp site if you want all the mod cons stay at home would stay again, beautiful area had a trip too Weymouth which is about 14 miles from camp and lovely village of Cerne Abbas is about 1 mile from camp

I must have gone to a different campsite to most of the other contactees! We had a disaster last summer and ended up having to holiday in the uk.
We set off mid morning having phoned g.h. And been told there was room. It was august and we thought we'd be lucky to have much space but when we arrived, there was plenty. The owner was friendly and helped us with advice on the local area when we asked - he even gave us directions to a local mechanic who repaired the damage done to our car (by the tolpuddle martyrs!).
The camp was clean and quiet, we had two children with us who enjoyed the campsite and didn't need to play ball as they had had plenty of fun during the day at various local beaches, parks and museums! Considering they are 14 and 8,i think they give it the thumbs up.
Yes the abluting facilities are basic but it's a camp site, for goodness sake - if you want luxury, go to a bournmouth hotel!
Oh, and on a clear night in august, giants head is the best place i have found in the uk to watch the shooting stars coming down in their hundreds - no extraneous street lighting and so nicely quiet. This place is the best i've tented in good old gb!
Well done, giants head, we'll be back one day.

Agree with the rest of the reviews, the site is very quiet, not aimed for children as soon as you enter there is a large sign saying 'no ball games'.
No shop on site, nearest shops would be about 3 miles in the village, together with a good choice of pubs.
The toilet block kept clean and tidy.
The site is handy for the local area, however it is located just off a main road so you can hear the traffic, even though we had pitched as far away from the road as we could, maybe not so loud if you are in a camper.
