I have just returned from a 3 night stay at this campsite and have to say we were very pleased with the site. I was a little dubious when booking the site, as some previous reviews were quite old and not very favourable.
When booking I found the reception staff helpful and efficient. Upon arrival a member of staff was available to advise me and give me the barrier card and amenities key. A member of staff was also to hand when we left.
Access into the campsite and to the pitch was good. The pitch we were allocated was flat and in a sheltered area. We had 2 nights of bad weather, first night it rained heavily and the second night was extremely windy. The position of the tent presented no problems to the tent and all was well.
The campsite wasn't full which meant we had the pick of the showers, which were always hot and clean. There are 2 pegs on the back of the door in the shower cubicle but no shelf or chair to keep your belongings on.
We used the pool on the first day we were there. In our opinion it wasn't heated. There was a life guard on duty and the pool area was tidy but in need a spruce up.
There is no clubhouse on site but there is a pub literally 5 minutes walk away, called The Fisherman's Arms. We didn't have a meal but the menu looked varied and of a reasonable price. We did have a drink, it had a nice friendly atmosphere and an outside area overlooking the marina.
There is also a Fish and Chip/Chinese on the main road outside the camp site. We had a chinese takeaway and enjoyed it. But beware they are generous with the chillies in their spicy dishes. Too hot for me but my husband loved it.
The only issue I had was that you needed the amenities key to use the toilets, as they are part of the shower block. I have 2 children, so every time they wanted the toilet I had to go with them to let them in. They are old enough to go to the toilet on their own but I didn't trust them not to lose the key.
The children used the play area but it only consists of two swings and a tall slide.
There is a launderette on site which I didn't use. There is a food preparation/washing up room which had big deep sinks and hot water. The deep freeze for ice blocks is in this room too.
If you are looking for a relaxed, peaceful family friendly campsite without all the hustle and bustle that comes with bigger campsites then Burgh Castle Marina is perfect.

At £30 a night this is a very expensive site and you would thus expect standards to be high, but if you do then you will be disappointed. In fact, we were so disappointed that we were due to return for a second week in September but decided instead to take the hit on the loss of the money paid up front, and book ourselves into another site.
The camp boasts a David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award and a Four Star Holiday and Touring Camping badge, we are completely shocked that what we would hope to be a reliable assessment system considers dated, unclean and totally unpleasant facilities attract a four star rating.
When we arrived, despite it being a Bank Holiday weekend, the site looked abandoned and uncared for. Our hearts sank immediately. The pitch we had been directed to, by instructions left in a box outside the closed Reception, directed us to pitch 13, but it was an awful dingy place - no hint of sunlight and yet it was a lovely sunny day. In fairness to the Receptionist, when she eventually returned from lunch, she did move us to another pitch but she explained despite the large grassy/hard standing area we were moving to having apparently many pitches available, the electric hook-ups didn't work.
The owners employ an outside contractor to clean the very toilet/shower facilities. In relation to the toilets this mainly consisted of occasionally squirting a bit of gel cleaner down the pan with clearly no attempt made to wipe the seat and the porcelain around and under the seat. Dried urine on the seats stayed in place all week.
The showers had ingrained dirt, cobwebs, spiders, huge beetles and the water flow was so poor it was almost impossible to rinse the shower area after using it - there was no mop to wipe down with anyway. There was a large dirty squeegee, but this would have been useless as the water flow didn't reach far enough to make it in any way effective.
The shower in the block near the swimming pool was even more crude. And I have to say that for £30 a night I had imagined the shower block would be heated; no such luck. It wasn't a particularly warm week and we made a habit of going round in the evening to close the windows so it wouldn't be quite so cold first thing in the morning.
The sense of neglect was manifest in the general state of the areas outside the shower block, laundry room and the steps up to the shower/toilets near to the swimming pool; no-one bothers to take a sweeping brush and just tidy up - clear away some of the leaves, dirt, cobwebs, dead beetles etc. A poor attempt to clean the laundry room was made after we'd been there for 5 days but it was still pretty grim. The driers were totally in effective too.
This site has the potential to be great, and maybe it was at one time, but it isn't now. We suspect too much effort is being put into selling the static homes and that less effort is put into the camping side. And as for value for money, they were similarly disgruntled.
There is a shop close by but it's not well stocked, and if you don't have a car then it's an hours walk to Tesco Express and back.
On a positive note, the girls in Reception were helpful and the pub is within 5 minutes walk - although the food is pretty ordinary.

We decided to have a last minute long weekend trip with our three small children, so we picked this site as it sounded idyllic: a quiet site with a play area, pool, view over the river and good pub a couple of minutes walk away.
Unfortunately, I should have checked when I made the booking that all of the facilities were going to be available. The pool was closed and so is the pub (for the forseeable future as the previous landlord has left). Having said this, as we didn't spend a lot of time on the site, the facilities weren't that important to us, but it would have been nice to have had the option of eating the pub, rather than having to stop off on the way back from a day out.
Another problem was that the office wasn't staffed during all the stated opening times, which was annoying when we wanted to hand in our keys and get a refund of our deposit.
This site has a double row of tall trees along some of the tent pitches (1 - 22), which causes a lot of wind to be directed down onto the tents and can be very noisy if a stiff breeze is blowing. The middle of the field in front of the trees was completely sheltered from the wind by the trees, unfortunately this area is for touring caravans, not tents.
On the plus side, the site was well maintained, free from litter, the showers were clean and had plenty of hot water (although the site was very sparsely occupied). You are charged a £50 deposit for the barrier card and keys to toilets / showers. We paid an additional £25 deposit for an extra key. The doors to the toilet / shower block had automatic closers on them which made them too stiff for our small children to open by themselves, which meant we had to take the every time they needed to go. There were plenty of electric hook ups and and the freezer was working well, so we were able to freeze our ice-packs.
Another positive point is that the site is well away from the main road, and although it is slotted in between two bigger campsites, there wasn't too much noise coming from the other sites late at night (although some noise was drowned out by the noise from the trees surrounding our tent).
The walk from the marina along to Burgh Castle is well worth making. We took a picnic, and it has to be one of the best picnic spots we've ever been to, with the Roman walls behind us to shelter us from the wind, boats drifting along the river in front of us and windmills in the distance.
This site would be ideal for people wanting a really quiet get away, but not really for people with small children due to the lack of facilities for them (the play area is a couple of swings). We had a pleasant weekend, but are unlikely to return.

Having visited this site a few years ago and judging by their website, we were really looking forward to visiting Burgh Castle again. On the plus side, a fantastic river-side location, loads of space and generous pitches, basic but clean facilities - and probably one of the most beautiful vantage points for a Norfolk landscape and sunset from the garden of the Fisherman's Inn on the riverside. On the downside (and we were given no clues at all beforehand!) everything was closed down, the pub, the swimming pool, and for the most part even Reception - we took our own 'tinnies' down to the boarded-up pub to enjoy the sunset! This place really needs some TLC and serious investment. Visit anyway just for a night or two, enjoy some back to basics camping - and lobby the management - it could be great!

Lovely quiet site. Excellent staff especially on site warden. Good security (barrier and keys). Really quiet. Would recommend to anyone who wanted a good base for Gt Yarmouth, Broads, and Norwich. No on site pub but Fishermans Rest 2 mins walk. (nice sunday lunch etc) other local pubs excellent. Shop & post office within 5 mins walking distance. Tescos express 5 mins drive and ASDA / Morrisons / Tescos superstores all within 15 mins drive. Showers and facilities very clean plenty of hot water and freezers, plus washing machines and driers. Solar heated pool and small play area but beautiful view of river Waverney.

Stayed a couple of nights which was booked at short notice. Got a hard-standing pitch with electric hook up and a water point for £18 p/n. A level site with some trees. The site was pretty empty so plenty of space for the kids although not much in the way of play equipment. Toilets and showers in good condition and kept clean. Lady on reception was friendly and helpful. Had an enjoyable stay, a handy site for those wanting to be near Gt Yarmouth.

This site had everything for a good family stay. Laundry and toilet/washing facilities are accessed by use of a key and, hence, are spacious and well kept. Easy access to fresh water taps and waste bins. Found plenty of pitches available (late Aug). Site is well lit at night and access to site and traffic speed is controlled, so reasonably safe for (older) children to wander about. Beautifully located and pleasantly quiet. Short drive from local shops and main road to Gt Yarmouth/Beccles. Can't comment on power points (didn't need them), though I believe they're available if required, as are gas bottles. Costs for pitches are reasonable, but larger tents cost higher fee.

A basic site with level pitches and well sheltered from the worst of the wind. Limited for the kids but enough room to play games. Toilets and showers well maintained and cleaned to a high standard. If your looking for a basic but clean level site I would recommend this park to anyone

Nice green pitch, nr 38 overlooking the Broads and marina and next to limited play area and facilities. Now the downside, facilities very poor, accessed via steep steps, unheated and extremely outdated and basic. Washing facilities further afield with scolding hot water with no warning! Keyed access is a pain, no shop although there is one at the end of the lane on the next site. Good access to Anglers Way and nearby Roman Fort. Canvas pitches are limited and one does feel like second class citizens to the plethora of statics.

Nice site with hook ups if needed. Limited play area for kids. Pool - free to site users. Well shielded against wind. We arived late with no problems. Need a key for toilet which was a pain through the night. Could have done with more than one. Good base for Yarmouth. Near Marina where you can get a boat to Yarmouth.
