Our greeting on arrival, despite our pre-booking was somewhat frosty, definitely not welcoming.
All the negative comments about the showers & toilets from several years ago, still stand and I can now confirm, as they are still untouched!
The water was hot, but not even a sighting of soap. I was pleased we have our own facilities. As already stated, the tourist pitches are by the main road, so be prepared with ear plugs.
Fee's are on the high side, when compared with other nearby sites, which have better facilities. Will I visit again? Not a chance!

The site doesn't seem so promising for tents at first sight, as it is basically a mobile home village situated on the outskirts of Harrogate among housing estates. In fact the place for pitching tents is well away from the road, and very quiet, level and clean.
The toilet blocks were a bit depressing in that they were old and patched up, but clean and functional nonetheless. Lots of hot water too.
Another plus is the Tesco Express which is open from 6am to midnight every day and a short walk away. It means you don't really need ice block freezing or anything like that, as you can shop every day.
Not a bad site overall for visiting nearby places, although not cheap at £20 per night for two adults and a 14-year old.

Wasn't at all sure about booking here after reading some of the reviews but I am glad that we did. First of all the comments about the showers and toilets were very true I suppose but I would say rather than dirty they were old and do need refurbishment.
On the plus side the site is very clean and tidy we received all the information that we needed and it is in an ideal situation for a walk into Knarsborough or to Harrogate or there is an excellent bus service right outside the site. I would book this site again

We decided on Shaws as this was close to where we wanted to be. We read the reviews and kept an open mind.
The toilets and showers are a little dated but clean, there was a notice saying that you can contact the warden if you are not happy. Block not heated but only staying a couple of nights. There is a disabled shower.
Transport very good and very close to Harrogate, pitch level, as this was Christmas time there were Christmas decs near the wardens van. As we like to like to have paece and quiet, this site suited us fine. We have already booked again.

We had a very good visit. The site was lovely and the staff very welcoming and informal.
As we had a twin axle we found getting on to the pitch quite difficult due to other rigs/tight corners and the ground conditions - there had been terrible rain - so we were requested not to encroach on the grass - fair comment.
We had to reverse the rig quite some distance - not possible for many drivers then man-handle it for the last bit in a confined space.
Toilet blocks were fine and the location of the site was very convenient for the show ground and the price was very reasonable. We are going back again this year 2013!

Ideally located to walk into Harrogate and Knaresborough and to get a train into York, all of which are great places to visit.
There are shops and pubs and takeaways all within easy walking distance of this site. First impressions - neat and tidy well set out site. Now the downside.
The toilets and showers are disgraceful. Apart from a quick mop they don't appear to have been cleaned or maintained in a long, long time. The smelly open drain in the ladies is disgusting and probably a health hazard. This block of toilets/showers is beyond updating and needs ripping out and rebuilding. Unable to comment on second toilet/shower block as it was locked up.
Despite paying £1 per dog per night there is no dog walking area and we were instructed to exercise dogs off-site and keep them off the grass!
There is a lot of traffic noise from the nearby road including ambulance sirens constantly passing by.

1. Position ideal for visiting Harrogate and Knaresborough (buses pass the site every 7 mins and a rail station for York only 15min walk away) Small Tesco/petrol station 100m from site.
2. Area for tourers adjacent to main road, a lot of traffic noise from early morning until quite late at night
3. Ladies and Gents Toilets/ showers are a disgrace and are badly in need of upgrading and decorating.
4. There is no specific area for 'washing-up', and we had to use the sink in a very small laundry room.

Great location to visit Harrogate You can walk in about 45 Mins or take Bus very frequent outside camp site
Pub /Chip shop/Tesco Express all very close.
Toilet block OK but needs updating plenty of hot water.
Had trouble finding the water supply to top up fresh water tank but once found OK
All pitches hard standing with hook up and grey water disposal.
Will go again and use as a base to discover more of North Yorkshire.
Great site for Yorkshire Flower Show

The site was well positioned for Harrogate, with a bus outside every 7mins, the railway station was also within 10 minutes walk with trains to York. The site was clean and well kept with water/elec/waste on each site. However the toilet block was dated, no heating and was not cleaned in the three day we were there. There were shops close by and a pub up the road. We found it easier to use the bus and go into Harrogate, where every type of restaurant/cafe ect was available.

We stayed for two weeks on this site. I am disabled and in my opinion the disabled toilet & shower were very well set out, I managed with very little effort.
The toilet block is a little tired, but it is clean, it is cleaned, brushed and mopped every day and smells lovely.
There are two laundry rooms which are very clean and the washers & dryers are very good indeed costing £1 less than the caravan club sites.
The site is very well situated, there is a Doctors Surgery right to the side, bus stops ony just outside, which accept OAP passes, you can go to Ripon, Knaresboroug, Skipton, Otley and many other places of interest.
The site is flat, so no hills to climb, there is a Tesco Express shop just down from the site & Mrs Westerman the warden is very kind, helpful & pleasant.
We would recommend anyone to go to this site, it's very central and we will be going back.
