We chose this site due its location along the Lochs and Glens cycle route and stayed for only one night on our journey north.
We were one of three tents sharing a small grassed area just in front of a row of static caravans at the back of the park. We had plenty of room and access to a picnic bench.
There was access to a small shop close to the entrance of the site, along with the post office an village store a little further down the road, with all the supplies you would need.
The site facilities were some of the best we encountered on the trip, with clean toilets and shower blocks.

This site is in a very beautiful area. We believe it has recently changed hands. It does not have a shop but there is a village shop almost adjacent. We found it to be very good value for money and stayed there for three nights.
The location is ideal for sightseeing and there is a lot to see in this area (even up to Inverness and beyond) It is run in a relaxed style but, we found that toilets, showers laundry and dish-washing were exemplary and always very clean.
It was very pleasant to be away from the hectic location Aviemore which had lots of shops etc but was always crowded and a bit noisy.
When we first booked in the site was not crowded but by the next day (Friday) it certainly was and the pitches were a bit cramped but OK because the clientèle were very civilised good neighbours unlike the previous site where we had stayed)
The price was much lower than all the other sites we had used in this tour, but, it was still one of the better sites. There is a very good restaurant in the village within easy strolling distance.
Does this site pass our KUMBAK test? (ie would we use it again) yes we would use it again and it passes the KUMBAK test. That means we thought this site to be in the best 25% because 75% of the UK sites fail our KUMBAK test. Among other things it was exceptional value for money and certainly better than many sites costing 66% more.

Stayed at this site in May 2008 with our tent great site with good views, shop just on road at entrance, fantastic surrounding area. However, on returning this year with a caravan we were disappointed to find the camping/caravan field had the addition of static caravans along one side and partially at bottom of field where the good views are. The toilets and showers are good, however on the weekend we were there they were not cleaned, which is a shame as they were great last year. After two nights stay we wished to stay an extra night, but on going to the site office at the correct opening times we were told to come back later as the owner told my husband he had a hangover, so we didn't bother. I suggest that campers do not take large tents in high season as they may struggle to pitch if site busy. A great site spoilt!

Still quite a popular site - But oh! How it has changed!
Last year it was lovely.
This year? Much of the camping / touring van area has been consumed by static caravans. Yes the site is still busy, however over a period of 2 nights - the toilets were not cleaned - the same can of Dr. Pepper left in a cubicle. Out of 4 cubicles - 1 had a broken seat, 1 was out of service.
It is still a lovely location, but for tourers - things have stood still, the facilities are becoming worn etc.
Around Boat of Garten is lovely scenery - lochs, mountains, steam trains and . Distilleries.
Oh yes! Just to add insult to injury, the digger was going at 8am on a Sunday! Also - it was digging where the second toilet block was last year - so now there is only 1 set of utilities.

A nice site with the most wonderful surroundings! Near to Inverness, Cairngorm (take the old steam train from Boat of Garten to Aivemore, then local bus to Cairngorm base camp). If you are in a tent, you will not have any problems to find a spot that you really want.Big tent area!
The toilet blocks at the tent area was really bad! The showers didn't work and the site manager blamed it on the plumber.Change plumber! There is toilet/shower blocks by the reception and they where really nice!
I would definitely go back to this site and will warmly recommend it!

Stayed for 2 nights. Booked in and was told to find a pitch and return to pay. Site was very busy but managed to find a pitch with a 6m space from the neighbour. Went back to pay at 5.30pm and had to ring bell as office was empty. Man came and said he was having his tea - office advertised as open until 8pm.
Toilet block at the touring pitch wasn't as clean as expected. The doors are left open 24/7 so the place is full of bugs, cobwebs etc. Neither of the showers worked so I had to go to the ones at reception. These worked but were only luke warm (unlike the washing up water which was scalding - this could have done with a sign to warn of this). Hairdryers are available to borrow from reception between 8am and 8pm - I went to borrow one at 8.25am and was again huffed at because the guy was having his breakfast!
I have only stayed on one other campsite so far (Rosemarkie - Black Isle) where the hairdryers were installed in the shower block, the facilities were spotless and the owners helpful.
Returned from a day out on our second day to find that the neighbouring tent had gone but 2 had replaced it - this meant that we had to step over their guy lines to get to our door. The people were so close that I could hear them breathing!
The playpark was very small and suitable only for younger children. Children resorted to 'building' their own play area with the bricks and soil that were in a corner of the site.
The area was lovely. Nice forest walks across the road. Easy access to Landmark - 10 mins drive.
Would not stay here again.

We have stayed at this site many times and love it and the surrounding area. The new owners of the site are spending a lot of money, time and effort improving it. The site was re-wired in July so we experienced no power cuts at all (which happened in the past). The toilets and showers whilst a little basic were spotless - they were cleaned twice a day. There are also fresh flowers placed in the ladies and lovely soap for washing your hands. The road into the site is being improved and street lighting put in which is helpful at night. The owners and the site manager were very helpful and friendly. The site is lovely, with a relaxed feeling and we were made to feel very welcome.
There is a laundry on the site and we found the wasing machines worked much better if you used liquid washing detergent.
This site has nothing like the regimented and restricted feel of some sites, but is still very well run and no bad behaviour is tolerated from adults or young people.
There is a very good shop at the entrance to the site and another one (a post office) only a short walk away.
There are many lovely walks from the site or you can travel the short distance to the Cairngorms.
We highly recommend this site.

Overview: privately-owned site, CCC-listed. We arrived by chance since the Grantown site was full, it being the orienteering championship week. Pluses: helpful staff, clean facilities, good location (handy for the steam train to Aviemore), good shop adjacent to site. Minuses: pitches too close together, too few dishwashing sinks, not-very-hot water, lots of young children (others might regard that as a plus). Comments: new owners seem to be working to make improvements. Would we return: not during school holidays.

Not our first choice but as Glenmore full we needed another touring site near Aviemore for a couple of nights. Our reception on the site was OK and we were directed to the tent field through beyond the static and touring caravan fields. There were no formal tent pitches, just an open area through which gravel roads ran and it was simply a case of finding a space big enough for your tent and car (although there were also motor-homes there). Tent field slightly elevated with few trees and as it was quite windy our tent took a fair buffering even using our car as protection. Site very quiet after about 10pm. Facilities fairly basic but probably OK for a short stay. The showers in the toilet block nearest us were not working although there was hot water in the toilets and in the dish-washing area. The showers in the main toilet block were however working and were cleaned regularly. Fresh flowers had been placed in this block when we were there. There was a launderette on site. There was a shop at the site entrance selling a good range of groceries. Another shop in the village sells take-away hot food and drinks. The Boat of Garten Hotel is a couple of minutes walk away but is moderately expensive There is lots to do in the area. Boat of Garten is famous for its ospreys and whilst we did not see any we saw wild red squirrels, otters and woodpeckers while walking round the village. There are a number of woodland walks in the area and tourist attractions such as Landmark Forest Heritage Park and Loch Garten are only a few miles away. The steam Strathspey Railway passes through the preserved Boat of Garten station a few minutes walk away. Finally all the attractions of Aviemore are only 10 minutes away by car.

Found receptionist very helpful both on the phone and in person. When we arrived the site was very busy (high season, start of summer holidays), but one of the staff helped us find a spot. They didn't make a fuss over the fact that our friends and ourselves had large motorhomes (30 and 35ft). We paid £17.50 p.n. For our large RV. The bins were full and about to overflow, thankfully the refuse truck arrived the next morning to empty them. The site has a laundrette, but we found the washing machine didn't wash very well and left washing powder on some of our clothes. Washing machine was £2 and the drier was 50p. Shop at the site entrance was very good, selling camping gear, food, papers, buckets and spades. You name it, they sold it. Site had a small playground for toddlers, one for older children would be a nice addition. Toilet/Showers were basic, but clean and served the purpose. We would use this site again for an overnight stop in high season, but its lack of marked out pitches and overcrowding would rule it out as a long stay holiday site.
