We turned up to the site at about 4.30-5pm and there was noone in the reception so went to the wardens house where the greeting wasnt very nice (it was as if I was too much bother) and had to specifically ask where I was going to get to the tent field before the door was shut in my face. I wouldn't recommend this site for tents. It looks very nice as you come through the gates past all of the caravans and camper homes but as you follow the road out to the back where the tent field is there is no shelter of any description (so our tent nearly got blown away and we had to try to use the car to prevent this) The toilet block we were supposed to use looked and smellt as though it hadn't been cleaned in weeks, with no hot water and a leaking toilet aswell. Late in the evening and in the morning there were a steady stream of cars to the toilet block in our corner with most of them taking detours accross the camping area grass, I felt this was very dangerous as there were alot of children running in and out of the tents. The childrens ball games area is right next to the tent area so if you don't want your car or tent hit by balls its not the best place to go either.

This site was very well cared for and the toilet/shower facilities were spotless. We only stayed for two nights but we were ideally placed for Aviemore and the surrounding area. The other bonus of this site was that there was little or no noise after 11pm. Nearby hotel was very handy for a meal / drink although a bit pricey.

May 2005 This site was like going back to the 60's. Whilst it was clean, I could not envisage what it would be like in full season. During my 3 night stay there was no hot water on the lower camping area serviced by 2WC's, 2 showers and 4 small wash basins. I would NOT recommend a trip to the chippy near the station at Aviemore either. The Salmon Smoke House on the other hand is well worth a visit.

Summer 2003 A well presented site, Brian and Maureen spend endless hours ensuring the site is maintained to a high standard. Toilet facilities are kept immaculate and cleaned several times a day - the site is well cared for. Large serviced pitches for caravans and motorhomes. Plenty room. Lovely open views in all directions. Large safe play area for kids. Many walks in the pine and silver birch woods across the road from the site entrance. Dogs love it. A well stocked shop adjacent to site.
An ideal base to visit the Cairngorms (11 miles), Aviemore (6 miles) and other villages. Plenty of wild life icluding the Ospreys at Loch Garten ( 3 miles) Highly recommended (from someone who has a seasonal pitch on the site).

june 2003 I stayed at Boat of Garten in my VW camper for one night as a stopover on my way to the Highlands. I found it to be clean with good amenities. the site is quite handy for aviemore and the speyside distilleries. I paid £10 for one night's stay but in high season (july/august), the price can shoot up dramatically so be prepared!!!!!
