We stayed here for 10 nights, two parties in a tent and tourer with three children of 7,9 and 12. After booking in at a very friendly reception area, we were shown to our pitches, which were an average size, and were sunny pitches.

A lot of the pitches were under the trees, but we were happy with a sunny pitch. The toilet block was very clean, and they were cleaned 2/3 times a day during our stay. The showers weren't very hot, and were a little trickly, but we found them adequate. We only queued once which wasn't bad for August.

The children enjoyed the very large football field, and use of the tennis court (1 court)and table tennis (2 tables)which were free. There were scooters and horse rides for hire at a reasonable 5/6 euros, but our 3 were happy on their bikes. There is a fairly good pitch and put, and they only charge 1 euro for hire of any amount of clubs, which again we thought reasonable.

What was not reasonable was the price of the takeaway foods! 12 euros for a pizza! We went to the Intermarche (about 10 mins drive) and bought 3 pizza's for 6 euros, which were delicious. Also a lager cost 4.5 euros, so we didn't eat out or drink out much at all, which was a shame. Those I spoke to said they had queued for an hour for a bag of chips, and I think the average wait time of those I spoke to was a half hour or more.

The kids clubs were a bit hit and miss, a few times ours went down to the rendezvous point, and there was just no-one in sight which was a bit poor. They did do an archery session, but the arrows were pointing at the football field which was a little disturbing! There was a helicopter ride on the Tues, which we thought quite reasonable at 25 euros for the kids, 30 for adults. All enjoyed the experience.

The swimming pools were adequate, and we had no trouble finding a bed around the pool. We have been to France for the past 8 years, and found this the quietest pool side ever! The pools are a little 'worn', but the children enjoyed playing for an hour or two in them The shop by pool side again was hit and miss as to when it opened.

Our pitches were by the road that ran through the site, and we found it quite noisy at 11pm onwards as groups of teenagers were returning from the bars. The security guy seemed to come around about 10pm, then we didn't see him again.

We visited St Valery, which has a lovely steam train ride, and estuary boat rides. Some nice restaurants to be had, and very quaint village.

We were told about Parc Bagatelle, about a 40 minute journey towards Berck (well sign posted). It cost us 100 euros for 7 to get in, and is a little like Wales Oakwood park for any that know that park. Very good value for money, we were there all day from 10am until 6.30pm. We do recommend if theme parks are your thing. The rides were all very family friendly for all ages.

We won't return to this site as we prefer the bigger pool complexes, but this is an okay park, and we all had an okay time, not brilliant, but we made the best of it and it is within a very easy hour and a half drive from the ferry at Calais. It's a little isolated, set amongst the farm lands, but Intermarche and Lidls within ten mins drive.

We visited this site late July having booked to stay for 1 week. We left after 2 days as we were thoroughly disappointed with the general standard of the site which is supposedly 4 star.

The site itself is nice enough and the reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. There is no pitch reserved, you just pitch wherever you like.

The shower/toilet facilities were not what I'd expect of a 4* site. The shower had no pressure- just sprayed everywhere and was a mass of spider webs/bugs in the corner of the door.

The children's play areas were probably the most disappointing feature of this site. They are long overdue being ripped out and replaced - they have gone beyond a paint job. There was only really 1 play area which was suitable for under 2's and it amused my little one for about a minute! There were about 5 sit-on springy rockers - all doing the same thing, then a see-saw and that was it.

The swimming pools were almost as sorry as the playgrounds. We didn't even bother to use them as they just didn't look inviting. There was hardly any space around the pools to sit either.

One plus point was the pony rides available on the camp. My year old daughter thought this was great. They weren't too badly priced either, at 6 euro for half an hour.

We ate in the restaurant once and the food was ok, not really any more expensive than the take-away which was charging 10 euro for a margherita pizza!

Although you have the lovely Chateau on site, only a tiny part of this is for public use- 1 tiny room and conservatory which is the bar, however it didn't open very much.

We would've left after 1 day but felt we ought to give it a chance. On day 2 we were so fed up we were ready to drive back to England but luckily found a fantastic site in the Berny-Riviere where we spent the rest of our holiday.

We stayed here last week and left after 3 days out of 7. This was not particularly due to the campsite itself but more lack of things to do and very bored children.

Whoever compared this site to Butlins is completely wrong- it's nothing like. I wasn't expecting Butlins at all- been there done that but I don't see the comparison.

Commercial site it may be but on comparing it the the site in Cornwall we stayed in last year (same time of year), it didn't compare at all.

Anyway- we arrived and were told to find a pitch so did so. All ok- nice site, but to be honest not much to do in low season as the bars, restaurant etc don't open much at all- a couple of hours or so in the evenings (and not every evening!), there is nothing to do in the day really at all.

There is a fun tent for the kids behind the pools I think a few hours a day except Tuesdays I think it said, with a few toys, balls, paints etc to keep kids occupied and there's couple of playgrounds (very dated but kids don't care do they!). We didn't try the pools.

The only bar we went in was the bar cinema during the england germany match on sunday which was OK. Dear as mentioned before.

Didn't buy much from the shop- it only opens for a couple of hours in the morning and then after a 6 hour break again for 3 hours at night. This is probably a French thing and I can only blame my own ignorance!

We stayed near the shower block across from one of the playgrounds. The showers were OK- although there was only 1 lot of showers, 1 lot of toilets and 1 lot of washing facilities open so shared sex (doesn't bother us but may do others?).

Don't bother paying 5 Euros for washing machines as one of them left our clothes still mucky and covered in washing powder streaks.

It cost us a whopping 8 Euros plus for 3 lots of chips from the takeaway (slowest takeaway in the world!).

Nearby we obviously didn't get to see much- we made the mistake of going to St Valery on the Monday and I read in my french guide that it's normal for Monday's to be quiet? Again my own ignorance but the place was dead. However I stopped by on the Sunday for cigarettes and the street was buzzing, lots of people eating outdoors so I guess I expected it to be the same on the Monday- silly me! No idea what the rest of the time it's like?

We visited a beach not far away- forget the name but it was up the coast slightly on the advice of the receptionist. Decent sandy beach, tide comes in very quick though! So be careful (although shallow until a fair way out).

We went to Carrefour and Intermarche supermarkets and both are ok- Intermarch seems to have a wider choice though? And tidier.

All in all we didn't enjoy it- the kids are young so happy to play but to be honest we were bored to tears.

I am sure the site is busier/more open during High season. Also sure it's other people's 'thing'- just not ours and I don't think I would camp abroad again.

We ended up staying in Kent for two nights which we enjoyed a lot more. A shame for us, but I wouldn't say it was the fault of the site. Next time I will listen to my mum ;)

Only cost us 55 euros for 3 nights with our camping card (plus 1 child as baby was free).

This was a very pleasant site and our holiday was made even more enjoyable because we had excellent weather.

The staff at this site were extremely courteous and very polite. There was ample information provided with regards to visiting the region.

The facilities were of a high standard. There were three toilet amenity blocks all strategically placed amongst the touring park. Some were more modern than others but all were cleaned from early in the morning until late at night.

There were plenty of facilities to occupy both teenage children and toddlers alike. The two bars on the site, one which would be frequented more by the teenagers, nice touch, were very pleasant.

There was a large choice of shady or sunny pitches. The swimming pools were an asset, one was covered and the other not, a must for the hot weather we had.

There was a take away and restaurant on site. Didn't try the restaurant, looked expensive and the take away was also dear. The shop was well stocked but there were three supermarkets all nearby which were cheaper.

For the size of the site and the amount of families staying there, the evenings and night-time were very peaceful.

The region was very pretty and the local towns attractive. The area was ideal for cycling. The journey took us about an hour and a half from Calais.

Would most definitely return to this site.

We used this site as a two-night stopover and its very easy to get to from the tunnel. Its a busy commercial site, but it is well geared up for dealing with visitors quickly and efficiently. Pitches vary in size and it is very full in August, but the facilities make it very easy living! The toilets and showers are kept amazingly clean considering the amount of use, the shop sells lots of useful foodstuffs and bread can be ordered. We used the restaurant and found a good choice of food well cooked and nicely presented.

Other than that I would echo the good messages of other reviewers.

We spent a week here at the end of July beginning of August. The site was wonderful. We had a great pitch close to the toilet and shower facilities which were always clean, thanks to a cleaner who seemed to be there from about 6am until gone 11 at night, she along with all the staff here was very friendly and helpful. There were 4 of us in total myself and husband and 2 sons aged 10 and 3.

One of the best parts of the holiday for the boys was the sandy play areas. One was directly opposite our tent so they were able to play with their new friends while we could sit outside the tent and keep a close eye on them but made them feel like they had some independence. There were about 20 children at one point all different nationalities playing together really well which was great to see.

The pools were slightly chilly (even the supposed heated pool) but given how hot the weather was it was lovely to be able to cool off and once in they were a welcome relief. The only downside was teenagers (sadly mainly English) bombing into the pools near smaller children and spoiling their enjoyment forcing our 10 year old into what he thought of as the baby pool with his little brother, however I know this isn't the fault of the site.

We also spent the one rainy day playing Crazy golf on site which was great fun and rented a go kart.

The shop was very good but quite expensive, which we expected, selling all the main essentials and fresh bread and croissants in the mornings tho it's best to book these in advance. There are also a few good supermarkets close by which were very reasonable.

The surrounding area was also very nice. We had days out in St Valery, Le Touquet, Cayeux Sur Mer and Abbeville. It was also quite a nice drive down to Disneyland Paris which was well worth a visit. We had intended to visit Bagatelle and Aqualud but ran out of time.

We have already booked a 2 week holiday here next year and this time a 2 day trip to EuroDisney as well as this time paying a definite visit to Aqualud.

Just returned yesterday! I'm a little embarrassed at how many times we have been to this site, but I do love it, a bit like home from home, yes, it has its not-so-brilliant bits, but this site has lots to offer.

Our children are getting a bit too old for the beach holidays so this is a great place for them, as they would hire the carts in the morning then off to the pool for an hour then out with us folks in the afternoon. We did use the bars on site and we have had several meals in the restaurant and the food was great. The bar inside the chateau has a video room next to it and the kids can choose which dvd they want to watch while mum and dad relax at the bar. The other bar we also used, as this had pool tables and a pinball machine etc and shows the GB news and the kids just all hang out.

Went into the local town to eat at one of the local restaurants and had a fabulous meal (although don't forget, you can have the menu in English)! Take a walk up one of the little back streets fascinating little houses.

We like this site because its only a easy 11/2 hour drive from the tunnel. We have been further south and not had as good a site, with as many facilities.

This site is used by lots of Netherlanders and Belgium's all very nice, the only ignorant / noisy / selfish people we found are the Brits. Come on, you lot, don't let the side down, have a bit of pride.

We also visited Aqualud in La Touquet back up the A16 towards Calais. Good afternoon our kids loved the slides, they went on them all.

We stayed here for 5 nights in June, and were really pleased with the site. We have a large tent, and had a pitch with electricity near to the second toilet block on the site.

The toilets and showers were always very clean, the showers could be cold at some times - best to leave it till late morning when they were nice and warm! There was an open man hole cover at one side of the blocks which was a bit smelly, but you could go in to the toilets from the other side.

The site was very clean in general, and all the staff were helpful and nice.

The two large pools were nice and luckily the weather was very warm for us so we made the most of them! The smaller pool was ideal for small children, and for adults to go in with them.

We never made it to any of the bars onsite as the weather was so nice, but we made good use of the shop on site ordering bread and croissants everyday for collection the next morning.

The local supermarket is a five minute drive away giving more choice on grocery's.

I would definitely recommend this site to campers of all ages.

Before going on holiday I searched for a few reviews of this site and felt a bit apprehensive as there were not many good reviews to be found! I can say from my experience that I would have no hesitation in recommending this site.

Our holiday was arranged so we overlapped with friends who were arriving 3 days after us. We asked for a large pitch,so they showed us around the site and let us choose our own and they allowed us to reserve the neighbouring pitch for our friends arrival. Most pitches were a bit bare of grass but this area had a similar weather to England in June.

I noticed on the reviews a few comments about the toilets and showers, there are 2 blocks, the block near our pitch was very clean, modern and well kept with a cleaner who must have been resident as she was there from 7a.M. Until at least 10pm! who kept the facilities spotless. All staff were friendly.

There was a small shop on site where fresh bread could be ordered for the following morning and a couple of supermarkets within 2 miles.

We had a look in the pubs on site but didn't use them as it was 4E for a glass of beer, and you could get 10 bottles for the same price from the onsite shop - no competition!

The children (aged 9,11,11,13)spent a lot of time in the 2 swimming pools, and as on previous reviews the water felt a bit cold when first getting in, I didn't think this was worthy of a moan and it certainly didn't stop anyone using them. They also hired go karts that can be used around the site. All in all they had a fantastic holiday.

Places we visited that we would say are worth a look are - Le Crotoy, St Valery (worth a walk into the medieval area), Cayeux sur Mer, Amiens (a great old city)and for the children a drive up the coast to Parc Bagatelle themepark.

We found this area of France really nice and will probably return to have a further look around.

I would recommend this site and area of France.

We have just returned from a week at the chateau with friends who also used a tent. On arrival the staff were really friendly and spoke good anglais and soon directed us to our pitches which were right next to the chateau, electricity and water were only metres away on all the pitches.
The campsite had a couple of good playgrounds, tennis courts, table tennis and three bars - one with pool tables. The pools were OK too if a little chilly, but what would you expect outside! You can hire bikes, go carts, pony rides and 'Rosaline' who features on most les Castels sites it seems. The shop was well stocked and you could order bread and croissants etc. For collection the following day which was really handy. Only 2 miles away was an Intermarche with a bigger selection of food, cheese, wine, pate, beer, more wine. You get the idea!
The only downside was the tiredness of the toilet facilities, they were always pretty clean or being cleaned but as mentioned before require some updating (red tile grout is very 1980's) they were also quite open and shared by both sexes which disturbed my wife a little however the shower and sink facilities were single sex. There was also some graffiti etched onto the back of some of the Formica toilet doors, you just need to tell the kids which ones not to go in. All in all we had a good time and have good memories of the place.
