First visit to Scotch Corner Caravan Park.

Managed to get booked up with ease, 4 days before the bank holiday. Wonder Why??

Unfortunately, 3 days of rain over the August Bank Holiday weekend marred what could have been a great break. There were no hard stands available.

On arrival, we were greeted and shown to our pitch. As a seasoned caravanner, I don't take too kindly to being told how to reverse my unit. I imagine the help would benefit some. So, caravan on the grass and not level, I dared to suggest I would level up with the mover. I was told by the site owner that's where I want it and you won't use the mover.

Similar stories from other's too. Site owner stood and watched to make sure caravans weren't moved after being sited.

Toilets are a bit dated and would benefit from refurbishment. When asked if there was an easier way of emptying the waste, I was told no. So with a bad back, the waste master has to be lifted 5 bricks high to empty it. A bit of a health risk here.

A separate large dog walking area is provided, with mown edges to walk on. This is a welcome facility for dog owners. However, if your dog slips it's lead or practices escapology from your caravan, be prepared to be shouted at for not keeping your dog under control.

Access to a local restaurant is via a gate in the field. We didn't use this, but imagine it is ok if you get the weather. Out door seating was available.

Security was the owners car parked across the entrance from 10pm - 8am. Unlucky if you pop out for a takeaway and are not back before 10pm.

This site is perfect for overnight stops and is ideally placed on the A1 for travelling.

In summary:

1. If you are looking for a great stop over site - tick.

2. If you are looking for reasonably well kept site - tick.

3. If you want a site where customers come second to the money - tick

4. If you like to be told how to manouver your outfit - tick

5. If you like to be told you cannot level up your caravan - tick.

Or did I catch the owner on a bad day? Who knows. I won't be returning.

This was the first time we had camped as very new to this. It was an ideal place for us to get used to, very quiet and the owners were very helpful.

Not a lot to do here and the dog walking is really just one walk around the field. You could drive out but we do not want to do that so we were disappointed in the lack of places to walk.

Shower block was clean and tidy. Would not go back basically because there was nothing to do but ideal for first time campers or for a stop off between towns.

Visited August Bank Holiday weekend. Helpful warden guided outfit to number 19 emplacement inch perfect with jockey wheel right on paving marker. This is the most tree shaded on the park and as it rained a lot we were always damp and cool. Site is well cared for and perfectly level. Toilet block facilities bit dated and the shower cubicles are dilapidated and too small. Just about do the job but not a pleasant experience. They are too far gone for the cleaning staff to make a difference, despite their best efforts.

Wastemaster grey water disposal is a two foot lift over a brick surround to the gulley. 45 kilos with my back! This could be solved by removing all but the lowest course of bricks. Warden really helpful and gave us a lift to Middleton Tyas when he heard we were going to a family wedding. We usually use cl's so are spoilt on costs but I guess Scotch Corner charges are average for a commercial site.

Ten out of ten for customer service. Same for quality of the grassed areas, it's a manicured level lawn. Wardens take security of site seriously too.

We stayed for one night, friendly staff. Very clean and tidy camp site, the fields were very well maintained and the grass very green and healthy, with no dead patches like you normally find at camp sites. We didn't leave the camp site as we were just there for one night, we ordered a take away from the local fast food place, which they delivered to the site. Toilets/showers were very clean. Large grassed area for kids (and us) to run about and play!

We will definitely be returning again soon.

Booked in at short notice. Shower blocks clean except the showerheads have not been cleaned in a long time so legonella maybe a real risk.

When we went to leave at 0830 on wednesday morning the gate was locked and blocked by a volvo - which would not start at first. Thank goodness no one needed an any emergency services. Good pub nearby but finished serving at food at 8pm.

The site is not quite level and at £22 is rather expensive. Motorhomes are not catered for as nowhere to drop grey water. The couple who run the place could be much friendlier - I wonder if I got them on a bad day - but judging by the other comments maybe not

Nice little site, ideally placed close to the A1 and an ideal base for exploring North Yorkshire.

We stayed here over the Bank Holiday weekend, but the site wasn't full and I never had to queue for a shower. Showering and toilet facilities were ok, nothing special but they were kept clean and that's the important thing.

The showers themselves weren't the most powerful in the world and the shower cubicles were a little on the small side, but they were hot and free. There was also a hairdryer in the shower area, but that cost 20p to use.

You needed a key to gain access to toilet block for which there was a deposit of £2.00. It would have been nice to have had 2 keys per pitch as only having the one meant that my husband and I either had to go to shower at the same time or one of us would have had to wait until the other one came back to swap over the key! I much prefer digital locks

Good size fairly flat pitches, nicely laid out across the site.

Couple of little niggles, the owner was very, very particular about how/where you pitched, excessively so we thought and we also felt that we were being watched over the weekend as he was driving around in his buggy, a comment I note that others have also made.

All in all though a good site and we would go back there again if we were in the area - would recommend.

Stayed here for two nights as it was relatively close to our dealer and we had some problems with our unit.I had phoned and booked this to ensure we were accommodated and had to give my switch number as a booking. When we arrived they had a hand written note on the door saying they didn't take cards and it was cash only.

The site have around 20 seasonal tourers parked up which at the time of our stay (midweek) were all closed up. The site is all grass and quite level and it has a large dog walk / field and the top end.

As its situated at Scotch corner there is a lot of road noise. As for the toilets they were dirty and I didn't see them being cleaned over the two days. I had a mop to clean my shower but there was no mop in the gents.

My major gripe was the cost at £22 per night for two adults and one dog

Our first camping experience in Yorkshire to visit family. So lucky to stay at Scotch Corner, a clean site with family run standards, clean toilets and showers.A small shop on site but shopping close by. Hotel within walking distance for breakfast. Not a overcrowded site so privacy is kept. Looking forward to re-visiting in 2011. Book up,you won't be disappointed with site or countryside as so many places to visit.

We stayed at this site for 3 nights I had two little children with me and there was nothing for them to do what so ever just a small field ! The place is ideal if you want some were to go who accepts dogs there were loads of them ! Toilet blocks basic but clean it was 2 pound deposit for your key. It is an ideal place for one night if you are travelling up and down the county.

We stayed for 3 nights over the Whit Bank Holiday. It wasn't our first choice, but we had left booking too late, and needed to be as near to Richmond as possible for a social event. We were pleasantly surprised, and had a very enjoyable stay (in spite of the poor weather). It is only a 15 minute drive from Richmond - which is a very pretty town.

There is a field at the far end of the caravan park, where tent campers can pitch around the edges. The owner told me he likes to keep the middle of the field as a clear as possible so children can play. I say edges, because lines of trees have been grown into the field to create pockets, and shade. In fact the whole site, far from being the characterless gravel park we had expected, was full of greenness, with buttercups and daisies for the kids to make chains with.

The other regular caravaners were very friendly and our four year old had fun playing football in the field with other children. The campsite owner was conscientious - making sure that large noisy groups stopped being noisy after eleven, so we slept well too.

The toilet/shower block was clean and there was a covered washing up area next to it on both sides. We didn't use any other facilities.
