First time staying here and our first thought was that this site is very over priced.
The site was packed out and quite a few campers had lit fires in the camping area which I thought would have been a big no considering it is in a forest.
The ground was very hard which made a job of trying to drive in awning pegs.
Plenty of activities for the kids, clean toilets and showers.
Playpark could do with updating. Good pub and take away on site.
Loads of forest walks which kept the kids entertained for a few hours. Plenty of watersports available.

We have been using this park for over 10 years, started off camping, and now with a touring caravan. The facilities are really good and have been updated over the last few years. The new toilet and shower block with individual shower rooms and washrooms has underfloor heating, but sadly it is now minus shower racks and coat hooks in a lot of the cubicles, and hairdryers are no longer available as they obviously have been vandalised. The showers have always plenty of hot water; some too hot at times, and toilets adequate toilet rolls. A very spacious disabled shower/toilet room is available for both genders.
The improved drainage on the super sites is excellent, but the remaining areas tend to get very wet and mucky, so welly boots are recommended.
We have looked at most of the caravan sites all over Northern Ireland for somewhere else to visit, but we are always drawn back to Castle Archdale. The super sites have water, waste, electric and T. V. Hook up. The park has a bar with weekend entertainment during the summer months, a playpark for small kids, a chippie, restaurant, shop for milk, bread, groceries, confectionery, cigs, toys and miscellaneous items such as gas cylinders and bits and bobs you might need being away from home.
The downside is they have raised their prices too high, as this is the first year we have seen the park vastly underused. We had to book before or we ran the risk of not getting a site. Previous years we would have used the park quite a lot, but this year because of the price hike not as much. Other campers and caravanners we met, all voiced their opinion on the price hike.
One thing that grates is they still charge the same prices even when the facilities are closed.
One year they used to do specials which were very keenly priced, like an off peak week for £50. We also use to leave the caravan for a set fee and return the following weekend for a break then they started to charge the full fee per night to leave the caravan.
It's a beautiful area with lots of water sports and places of interest to visit. Belleek Pottery is a must see as is the Sheelin Lace museum, Marble Arch caves (wow) and beautiful historical properties. Enniskillen and Irvinestown are within a few miles for shopping and browsing. Go see the Glencar waterfall in Sligo. Well worth a visit. This area has good picnic seating and toilets.
We never tire of the scenery. When the park is in full swing it's a wonderful holiday. The ducks at the marina come up close, especially if you have some bread and scraps for them.
I've noticed a bin at the dishwashing sink area has been removed which leads to a build up of food scraps being left in the sinks.
Throughout the park, bins are regularly emptied and the toilets kept very clean. Office staff are very courteous, and security walk the area from 10pm and nip any disturbance/noise in the bud.
Other caravan parks haven't pushed their prices up quite so much. It's so sad as the area has so much to offer.
We'll go again but the prices mean not as much.

Just back yesterday from camping here in a tent. We all had a fantastic time. Staff around camp site constantly cleaning and lifting rubbish toilets and showers spotless.
Facilities brilliant loads to do for the kids we went with 17, 12, 11, 10, 8 years old. My mum, dad niece 20 yrs and hubby and all had a brilliant time.
Bring wellies when wet very mucky but we are in a camp site after all. Friday and Saturday in the wee nook fantastic entertainment karaoke and disco nice surprise after all we are camping.
Chip shop on site and a wee cafe giving a good alternative to the old b. B. Q.
Well recommended actually planning to go back again in august.

We arrived at Castle Archdale and I was surprised not to be able to see the lough at all. There were many caravans blocking the view and it looked more like a trailer park than a lough shore camping / caravanning site.
We went in to ask about tent camping as we decided we had driven so far to get there to turn back. It was 20 pounds. Steep for only two people I thought.
We were given a map and not wanting to be amongst the numerous static caravans we thought the tent sites looked far enough away from the caravans that we decided we would stay.
After signing a lot of paperwork, we were given a code to get through to the camping area and alas it looked awful. We drove around to try to find a decent pitch. There were none. The site was much smaller than the website and map made it look.
The Lough is completely blocked off by bushes and there were no views from any of the camping pitches
We decided it wasn't the place for us and when we went back in to try to give our money back (we'd been there for about a half hour, ) the girl at the front desk refused.
Instead we were give a credit which could be used towards future stays at Castle Archdale, a credit which will go unused.

The site was crowded, especially for us tent users. They just keep booking people in and no specific pitches for them. You are expected to just try and pick a spot and pitch which is easier said than done!
I found both toilet blocks and the area to wash the dishes dirty and I understand there are a vast amount of people using them but I only saw staff cleaning once while we were there. It should have been done at least twice a day to keep on top of the usage.
The noise at night time was unbearable due the being packed in. I was kept up all night by the gentleman in the next tent snoring!
The surrounding area is great for activities, We hired a boat and took the kids to Lusty Beg and you could see lots of watersports going on. Bike hire is available and lots of paths to cycle on.
The playground is only good for little kids, not much on it at all. My 7 year old was bored after 5 mins.
Maybe it just wasn't for us, we definitely like it quieter but if it has of just been clean I would have been happier.

We have just returned from our weeks holiday at castle Archdale and we are already planning our next trip back there.
We had 4 children, 2 aged 12 and the other two were 15 and 13. The kids spent their days doing the fantastic selection of water sports and playing in the park itself. They had a ball and were very sad to leave on Saturday.
The pitch we had was more than adequate and all our needs were met by the restaurant, staff, and amenities.
Will definitely be back and will stay 2 weeks next time.
Highly recommend this park to everyone, if you have camped anywhere on a regular basis you will find this a high quality site with excellent facilities and fabulous staff!

Will be back at this site again and again. Very child friendly and spotless. Security walk around all night just to keep an eye on things. Pitches are good but awnings cause a little hassle in the hard surface. Bring good steel pegs with you. The pub serves good food and a cracking pint of Guinness. Don't expect a quiet time but it is the spot for kids.

I've heard so much about here I decided to give it ago, worst break ever!
First of all the pitch we booked never materialised. The staff just shrugged their shoulders, when we did get a 'pitch' and I use my words wisely, it was no more than a bit of cut grass, we got bogged in even with no rain, saying that it then bucketed down, everything was pure muck, the kids were black with dirt, no proper drainage and still they crammed more and more caravans in,
Some people just packed up and left, only for the staff to try and put somebody else on their 'pitch' even though a tractor would have got stuck.
The facilities always had a layer of dust and hairs on the floor and the kids park was, for the size of the park a disgrace. They even had caravans parked out side the main gates on the road in.
The electric tripped in the park every other hour, which was the straw which broke the camels back for me, they don't give you a refund and I just wanted to get away from the sardine can.

Love this site. Modern, clean facilities and good security. Security men patrol all night. Loads to do in the site and surrounding area.
It's not perfect, it can be busy and at times noisy, we stayed at the end of a very wet season, the ground was not in good condition and you could end up pitched very close to other tents but any problems in the site are more than than compensated by its great location. You could easily park the car on arrival and not need it again until you go home.

My husband myself and my two children aged 3 and 4 have just returned from a 4 night trip to Castle Archdale. It is very easy to locate and is well sign posted. We arrived and had booked a superior site which was £25 per night and this included your own electric, water, waste and tv aerial point which give a perfect reception. The site was classed as being an all weather pitch which basically meant there was a rubber type matting under the grass. We found these superior pitches to be rather packed in and with 2 young children we basically had a road running round 3 sides of us with no real area for the kids to safely play.
We made our way back to reception and asked if there was any chance we could be moved and I must say the staff were brilliant. Very helpful and pleasant and give us a list of all the sites that would be free for our stay and let us pick. We chose a deluxe site which was the same price but didn't have the tv point but did have a private setting with light hedges between each pitch and a nice patio area for you own personal use. We were very impressed with this. In front of our site was a large grass area where tents and caravans could pitch.
We found the noise on site was fine and by around 11 everything was quite peaceful!
We didn't use the showers on site but did look round them and they were lovely and clean as were the toilets.
There is a restaurant, pub and takeaway on site which we did use and can highly recommend.
There is a shop for all you basic needs including branded castle archdale things like jams and biscuits which was a nice touch for presents!
Again the staff in all the shops and pub were really friendly and pleasant.
There is a play park for kids which I think could be better and a laundry block which looked excellent.
There is a barrier system to gain entry to the touring park which was good for security and is operated via a code you are given. While on security I was told that there are security persons walking around at night on site which is reassuring. The grass area where the tents were did get very mucky with the rain we had but no one seemed to mind and just gathered leaves and stuff and covered it up though a few cars did get stuck!
Castle Archdale is a beautiful place. It was well kept by the cleaning staff who went around on quads emptying the bins regularly. The marina is amazing and you can hire motor boats for half days or full days. Also you can hire bikes for adults and kids and go karts and fishing rods etc. We walked right out to the end of the marina and the view of the lakes is amazing it was breath taking. There is the old courtyard with an exhibition from the world war and a nature exhibition which were both really interesting and a tearoom which was excellent.
There is also a butterfly area and a red deer area and a wild pond but we never ventured to those or the actual site of the original castle but we will on our next visit.
Overall I would recommend this site to people of all ages and interests whether in a caravan motor home or tent. I will def return to it.
