Stayed there for 2 nights at end of June. This was our first camping holiday. I was there with wife and 2 small children. The site is very well organised, clean toilets and showers, cheap bar with beer available to takeout. The shop was reasonable and there was a restaurant serving breakfast from 10am.

There were a few different areas for tents and there were plenty of water taps and electric supplies too.

There was a playground for the children and lots of woods for them to investigate.

The cost was £20 per day which was a bargain.

Overall, very impressed.

Myself, partner and 3 boys 12,8,1 started going to this site in may 2009 and it was our first camping holiday. Since then we never left this site as we were all totally smitten with the hospitality of the staff and the scenery is magnificent. There are plenty to do around castle archdale and not much reason to leave the site.

The bar is really friendly and is open every weekend until July which it then opens every night until the end of august. When we did venture off site we found a farm that makes their own ice cream which was delicious and at 4pm every day there is a viewing gallery for the kids to watch the cows being milked for a very small fee.

Enniskillen is a brilliant shopping town with all the major supermarkets in it. The showers and toilets are very clean and the site is very well kept. We love this site so much that we have already booked for Easter and have bought a touring caravan in case it snows lol.

We had a wonderful time here, the lake was breath taking and all the old buildings on site. We fished till 11pm of a night off the old pier.

Toilet and shower blocks was well maintained and nice and hot.

We hired a boat for the day that I recommend as you can get off at all the little islands to explorer and have BBQ good value for money

For the price for the week £50 I could not be live it and so clean, the staff was wonderful me and my family will be going back without a doubt

Stayed here recently for five nights.

Last time here 14 years ago.

Positives -

Great location for a caravan site. The owners appear to be making attempts to improve it.

There are superior sites which are new with hookup facilities for water drainage and TV. Reasonable size.

There are plenty of toilets and showers in a relatively new block. Showers big, plenty of room in them.

Good take away on site, also a pub and restaurant which we did not use so can't comment.

Shop appeared to be well stocked, both with food items and basic camping equipment.

Watersports centre on site which we used and is good.

Plenty of walks.

Negatives -

When we arrived the site was very full. We had booked a pitch with electric and were given a map in reception and told to pitch 'anywhere on the grassy areas'. This is what appears to be said to everyone who has booked for this type of pitch, whether it is with a caravan or tent. We drove around for ages, could not find anywhere and eventually went back to reception to inform them of this. We had noticed that there were now separate numbered pitches and asked for one of these as we had noticed there some were vacant. These had not been offered to us when we booked. It cost an extra £5 per night, which at the time we were happy to pay, as being stuck in the middle of a lot of tents didn't appeal to us.

Speaking to the people beside us, a couple of days later we discovered they had the same problem and when they went to reception they were given one of the superior sites, but refused to pay all of the extra cost as it was not their fault. Wish we had thought of this. These pitches are a lot better than the electic only ones, but most are very close together. The pitch we were on was so close to the one behind, you could touch their van (this was to cause us problems later in our stay). Also the roads between most of them are very narrow and makes it difficult to get turned on or off the pitch, especially when there are cars parked at other pitches. Some of the pitches had us baffled as to how the people got their van onto it. While an effort has been made to have each of these pitches level, by terracing them, there needs to be fencing put around at least two sides, of each one, as there is quite a drop between pitches. It would be possible for someone to go over the edge, at the side or the back of some of them. Also we witnessed children on bicycles riding over the vacant pitches, not realising there was a drop at the edge and almost crashing into the back a van.

In the toilet block, there are no signs on the doors to say what is a shower or toilet. The showers have no seats in them and no shelves to put shampoo etc. Only hooks on the back of the doors, which are not handy. We think there may have been shelves on at one time, as there were holes in the tiles where a shelf would have been put.

The site is used by quite a lot of groups of young people, camping especially at weekends, who did create some noise, but we expected that and were prepared to put up with it. Most of them were well behaved and they were not our biggest problem.

We found the noise at night to be bad. One night there was a football match in progress, outside the toilet block, in the middle of the road where cars drive. Most of the children were approx. 10/11yrs old. The 'no ball games' sign obviously did not apply. We had to dodge the ball in order to get to the toilet block and my son was asked to get out of the way by one of the children. This was taking place at 11.30pm, the information leaflet given to us on arrival stated that there was to be no noise after 11pm.

This site has the potential to be very good, it is the location that makes people use it. We will go back as our kids loved it, but not without some apprehension, although we are now more aware of what we need to do when booking in advance.

We stayed here last July just after the wettest weeks of the year. This is our first tent and this site was reccomended to us by fellow campers in Castlewellan which we use as a weekend retreat.

I loved the site, the historical fact it was an airbase in wwii made my boys happy as they tried to follow a map of where different parts were. Its great for walking and the only downside I saw was the area was prone to flooding, we werent as we pitched on high ground.

It was quite a walk from tent site to main area where you will find a chipshop, restaurant, pub and main office plus playarea. You need bikes to enjoy this site to its full advantage but you can hire them out at the marina. We enjoyed it and will definitely be back to it this year maybe if we cant find somewhere else to try.
This time we are bringing bikes.

Generally this site appears good. The surroundings are fantastic with the beautiful forest and the lake. The facilities of a shop, restaurant, chippy and bar appear great until you find out (by accident as it happened - staff and leaflets did not make this clear) that they only open in July and August and that the costs for the facilities is the same if they are open or not. They are good when they are open although the bar is quiet, a little dated and seemed to close when the bar man became tired - usually around eleven. A garage with shop is 2 minutes drive away with an almost hidden but fantastic restaurant/pub attached.

The site appears to cater primarily for static caravans and I think the accommodation for both caravaners and campers is secondary to considerations. Finding a level tent pitch was near impossible with the two main areas like shallow bowls which quickly became very muddy in the bad weather that month. Hard standings were taking literally with provision for caravans either on something close to two car parks or on the the grass pitches - I counted three proper hard standings which were directly opposite the toilet block.

Can praise the toilet and cleaning areas quite highly and rubbish was regularly removed and the place kept tidy. The surrounding areas are lovely to tour and local people are very friendly.

I stayed here with my parents a couple of years ago but I have been visiting Castle Archdale since I was a little girl and I love it.  I'm going back in a couple of weeks time to stay in a tent this time.  The campsite is maybe a little dearer than some others but you get what you pay for.

I think its really important especially as someone camping in a tent that facilities provided are up to scratch and this is definitely the case.  The toilets and showers are regularly cleaned. There are plugs which is a bonus for girls like myself who still like to straighten their hair.

There is plenty of space for cleaning up the dishes so its not a problem either. And there are also good laundry facilities which aren't too expensive.

On site there is a shop and small restaurant. The shop isn't the biggest but it offers the basics for everyone.  They also hire out karts which is good fun for the kids.  Caravaners spaces are divided by bushes which means some privacy which I liked because you weren't on top of your neighbour.  It was also nice that there were bunnies running around the camp site.

Down at the marina bicycles can be hired which is good for cycling around the forest or you can walk if you so wish.  I loved feeding the ducks in the evenings. They're very friendly.  For kids there is a small play park.

Fermanagh is a lovely area and this camp site is a great base for visiting some of the many attractions it has to offer. I would recommend it to anyone.

I have been a regular visitor of this site for some years. Previously when it was under council control, it was a basic site with limited facilities.
Its present state I initially welcomed with its introduction of electricity which was long overdue. New toilet blocks and laundry facilities has made it a good site. However, during the week the full paying camper pays premium site fees for a substandard service. The new clean toilet blocks stay closed, the bar restaurant only opens at weekends unless it is July or August when it stays open 7days a week.
This site in my opinion should seriously review its price policy as I have experienced many a fellow campers who also think it would benefit from a high/low season tariff.

I have camped here twice now and would recommend it to campers and caravaners alike. There is plenty to do with ample facilities i.e. Bar, shop, take away, play area, boat hire for the lough(lake), bike hire and pony trekking and that's just in the forest. The only down side is info I think you should be given a welcome sheet with all the above info on it to help you get your bearings quicker.
But so far the best site I've been to out of 6 in N.Ireland.

Great site. Right on the lough. It has a restaurant, chippy and play area. Its set in woodland and the whole place is very lively, but as its so well set out it is also very relaxing.

Our part had security to stop lots and lots of cars driving around. Great for cycling and walking. Definitely worth a visit.
