We have just returned from Camping De L Orangerie De Lanniron and have had an absolutely fantastic 2 weeks and already looking forward to next time.
The staff were very welcoming and supporting when we had a slight problem in a local store when we purchased fresh fruit that was not fit. This could happen to anybody, anywhere but it was made more difficult with the lack of our French language skills. Staff at the site listened to our complaint, phoned the store and then wrote down our complaint in French for us to take and offered further support with telephone communication. Well and truly beyond our expectations. The store were also grateful to have a clear picture in their own language.
The owner of the site rode around on her bike often and stopped for a chat to make sure we were settled and having a good holiday.
When we arrived we were offered a selection of full service pitches and although some had large trees and therefore unsuitable for our unit there was a good choice. The pitch was grass and well kept and had some privacy with hedging. The pitch was large enough that you could pitch up sideways with an awning if that suited the position better. We were not able to get satelite TV but some pitches managed this - but it was sporadic so I would recommend asking which pitches are better (less surrounding trees), especially if this is an important part of your holiday.
We have the French Map in our Sat Nav and although it did not recognise a few new roundabouts on the whole it was brilliant and took us either straight to or very close to our destination. Traveling was good with decent roads but as in any country the locals were slightly faster than us !
The toilet blocks were very clean and a lot of 'free' hot water in the showers. Only issue was that when a wedding or private event was being held the toilet block was limited.
We did not use the large pool near the bar but it looked great, very clean and seating close by. However we used the small pool near the shop and this was adequate to relax.
The shop was small and not well stocked but had essentials. We would recommend ordering bread and cakes as these were fresh and delicious.
We did not use the children's facilities but there was a decent sized play area with lots of equipment. There were also notices for a Kids Club but due to the time of year we did not have a lot of children on site.
The golf course was dissapointing, but this was only because we prefered a full size course. It is a 9 hole course with short holes for golf enthusiasts. It is very well kept and there is a driving range and practice area to keep you busy inbetween. There is a wonderful golf course (18 holes) within 10 miles - Golf De Cornouaille - ( but we would recommend booking a tee as this can get very busy) English speaking staff are helpful. The site has an agreement for discount and 18 holes costs 44 Euros per person.
There is a walk into Quimper from the site that takes around 15 minutes but make sure you get clear directions as we got lost on our first trip out. Public transport is easy and frequent. The Cathedral in Quimper is worth a visit. The town is mainly designer shops but there is a food market everyday and the cafe's are reasonable - and we found out that they do not mind if you share 1 large portion.
Unfortunately we booked for the end of the season and therefore some of the entertainment and events were closing down but this did not spoil our stay as staff were friendly.
Overall we would recommend this site which is very peaceful and an ideal base whatever your taste in holiday events may be.

Located in the midst of Quimper's huge industrial estate, a little oasis of calm. As a family of four, we booked in here last week of August after a week in the Dordogne with the same castells company group. Great site, facilities faultless and especially clean. Plenty on site for everyone, golf, pitanque, table tennis. Two site pool complexes with great water slides and fountains, lazy river - very very good. We had booked a fully serviced pitch, with table, chairs for six, sun loungers, bbq and fridge. However, upon arrival, I had to go back to reception to ask where they all were ! Full credit, within a hour they arrived, though we did have to go back to get a attachment so the fridge could be connected. Don't know if this oversight was because the site is large and equipment could have been all over the place, still, all should have been ready for us when we arrived. But all was sorted quickly, so no real issues.
Whole site need a little attention though; grass areas were a little long, table tennis tables were a little shabby and crazy golf was more crazy though lack of use, probably because it needed a clean and tidy. But the whole site was very pretty and gardens and flowers and walks lovely.
Shop was quite empty, maybe because it was near the end of the season, but bread and croissants could still be ordered.
Did not use the restaurant on site, but did use the bar. One slight irritation was the bar, it did not open until 2pm and therefore was not as useful or holiday friendly for coffee, tea, ice creams and other drinks as you would expect for a holiday location; compared with the other Castel site we stayed at the week before at Le Moulin du Roch, their bar facilities were outstanding and what you expect from a holiday location. This said, it did not prevent us from having a excellent time at this location and would return to it again. The weather was also on our side, dry and warm to hot.

We visited this site, about 2 wks before the end of the season, very nice welcome, pleasant staff. We were taken to 2 enormous pitches, in a sunny area. The shower blocks were superb, there was plenty of space, lots of hot water, this also goes for the wash up area. Very tidy and pleasant site. Take your bikes handy for the site and for the great cycle tracks in and around the area. A must is Quimper, a nice cycle ride, also take the track in the opposite direction to Quimper and you will have fab views of the Chateau from across the lake. It really is a gem. We never got to try the Restaurant, but popped in for a look and got a very nice welcome. The pool complex is good. There is also a small Golf course, a gem of a site, would we return yes great location and 4* facilities, even though we arrived near the end of the season. There is only one thing to be aware of the electric points are very spaced out and so take a long lead. You can hire a longer lead.

We visited the campsite for two weeks at the beginning of August. We enjoyed it very much and would recommend it for families with young children or teenagers.
There are lots of things to do on the actual campsite; a great pool complex, a smaller pool which is quieter and open more hours, an excellent playground, a takeaway, fishing facilities, a restaurant and wonderful views from the Chateau.
The facilities are great. The shower blocks are spotless and are cleaned at least three times a day. However, there's no soap in the toilets, which is a minor problem that can be avoided. The showers are good, but the ones on the higher area stay on much longer and are far more powerful.
The shop within the campsite is well supplied with necessities. Inside the shop is the takeaway. The takeaway isn't great for pizzas. They are stored in a freezer with the cheese and tomato on so aren't the most fresh of pizzas.
The restaurant has excellent food, however it is not the 'campsite' restaurant that we are used to. It is expensive, but worth it, and is only open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday because at weekends it is used by the public for weddings and receptions.
The pool complex is the best that we have ever seen. It has one chute slide, two pair slides and a chute that is extremely fast. Also there are fountains all over the complex,a rapids area, two jacuzzis and a wave machine. It is all built into synthetic rocks which gives it a lovely atmosphere. Despite claiming to be heated, it is very cold, especially without the sun heating it, however once you are in, you forget all about it.
The area that the campsite is set in is a lovely area if you are willing to travel a little. The supermarket is very close and so are some lovely beaches. Benodet is one of the beaches that we visited and it was lovely. It is a sandy beach that has clear waters. It is also a harbour so there are lots of sailing boats around which makes it look very picturesque. Also, this beach would be perfect for anyone who enjoys rock pooling, as it is great for this. We also had lunch in one of the cafes on the beach front, which we enjoyed a lot and would recommend on a sunny day when you can look down onto the beach.
Not far from the campsite is a lovely walled city called Concarneau. This is beautiful. We visited twice during our stay, and in my opinion is a must-do visit even on a cloudy day.
The weather was very on and off during our holiday, even though we visited there at the beginning of August. Because it is near the sea, the wind can change the weather and they are unable to predict it. Most of the time it would cloud over in the morning then maybe brighten up in the afternoon. However, we did had a few days when the sun was blazing, and on these days the sun was extremely hot.
The staff were very friendly and always helpful. Despite saying on the website that the pitches are large, they can vary. Some are very large and shaded, some are small, and some will only fit a tent. We had to park our car on another pitch because we didn't have enough room once we had the tent, chairs and table. However, looking around, some of them would fit them on easily. Because the staff keep a third of the pitches empty at all times, there are usually about 5 pitches that they give you to choose from, so you should be able to find a pitch that suits you.
This site is the quietest site that we have stayed on, especially at night, however the temperature did drop a lot at night! Everywhere is kept in the best condition as possible at all times. Oh, also there is a big golf course on site, but as we are not golfers I cannot comment.
This is a lovely site and if the weather is not the most important aspect of your holiday, this will be the perfect site for you.

A group of us have just got back from a week at L’Orangerie de Lanniron. A very enjoyable and quiet holiday. The site is quiet and located in woodlands. L’Orangerie de Lanniron has a 9 hole golf course and a restaurant together with the campsite.
We booked three Premium pitches together. Premium pitches are extra large and have electric and water on the pitch. The Premium pitch also comes with fridge, patio type table and chairs plus a couple of sun loungers. On arrival we got booked in and shown to our pitches by a member of staff. Within 20 minutes of starting to set up, a member of staff turned up at the pitch and cleaned the fridges and tables.
The fridge had a continental plug fitted but the electric hook-up is the Blue Commando style socket. It is worth bearing this in mind if you are going for this option. We got over this by purchasing a four way continental extension lead for €1.54 from the local hypermarket and fitting a 3 pin UK plug to the extension to allow the fridge to be plugged into our tent electrics.
The site facilities are limited with the shop having the basics like freshly baked bread etc. But on arrival you are given a 5% discount voucher for the local hyper market which can be used every time you shop (not just once). The bar is very family friendly and there is a small takeaway. The toilets and showers are very clean with plenty of hot water but only one soap dispenser in the ladies toilets. Also, only one of the two hand dryers worked in both toilets.
The water park is ok when the sun is out but the patio area is raised and can get chilly when the sun goes in. There is no indoor pool but there is a massive indoor water park about a ¼ mile away which is ideal if the weather is not that brilliant.
We had a 9 year old in the group who we tried to book the horse riding and kayaking for. The horse riding was a pony ride around the campsite (of no use for someone who can ride proficiency). Also they only did pony rides a couple of times a week with only three ponies. The Kayaking was undertaken down at the local boating and fishing pool. Unfortunately this activity is only available once a week and finishes for the season on the 10th August.
We had a meal in the restaurant which is a restaurant and you need to pre-book to be sure of a table. They have a fixed three course for €25 (plus wine) or you can select from the menu which worked out at around €28 - €35 per head (plus wine).
One other thing worth mentioning is that they also have wedding receptions. When a reception is on, the gardens are closed to residents. They also lock off the ladies toilets in the Orangerie and then make the men’s toilets uni-sex. If this is a problem there is another toilet and shower block at the top end of the campsite, although it’s about a 5 minutes walk between the toilet blocks.
In summary this is an ideal site if you want a quiet holiday where the children can play safely and you don’t mind going off site for activities. Very close to the local town and amenities.

Fantastic site, well maintained, facilities and staff superb. Beautiful setting, although on the edge of a major town it could have been miles away from anywhere!
Small shop on site catered for basic needs - and pizzas, crepes and frites cooked to order.
The new aqua park was brilliant, second pool by the Chateau was small, but popular if wanting just a dip! Fishing from Chateau wall into the river and pond. Nine hole golf course was good, plenty of other activities arranged throughout the week - the kayaking session at Benodet is a must! Well organised and worth every penny (15 euros per person) bus transports you from door to door and kayaking is at the mouth of the river.
Main local bus route is easily found approx 30 yards from the main entrance (1.10 euros each in to the town of Quimper) Very pretty town, historical buildings and church with lots of shops, cafes (cafe.Com in the main square served a lovely lunch) and restaraunts to choose from. We must recommend, as typical Brits, the local Indian restaurant 'The Maharajah' on the river front on the 'Rue de Parc' Fantastic food and very friendly service!
Would definitely return in the future and would recommend a visit to this site.
One slight winge - there is only one grey water discharge point which is at the motor home drain down area. If your caravan is at the bottom of the site near the Chateau - be prepared for a fair hike!

Just back from this lovely site. We used camping cheques and 'upgraded' our pitch to one with water and drainage for an extra 2 euros per night. The pitches were large and very sheltered. The site was not busy, probably a third full. Shower blocks superb but no soap in the loos (plenty of loo paper though)
The aquapark is excellent and there is also the 'old' swimming pool still open which we found to be very peaceful and often had it to ourselves.
We cycled into Quimper along the path by the entrance, about 3K. A lovely old town.
The only 'disappointing' part we found was the restaurant. It had quite a limiting menu and was expensive. Perhaps we expected more of a 'campsite' type restaurant, although there is a takeaway which we did not try.
We highly rate the site and would definitely return.

Lived up to other reviews. Staff are excellent. New water park is great, actually warm by the second sunny day although it gets much colder when there is no sun, I would say acclimatised, not heated in the true sense
Pitches quite flat and large. Would definitely visit again. Quite good value if you use camping cheques + ferry offer via Plymouth – roscoff, as the ferry is about £170 cheaper and you get 14 nights for 11 cheques

This was a re-visit after many years and I was delighted that this remains a lovely site in a great area of Brittany. Pitches are spacious and laid out to give a good degree of privacy. We chose the site as the Catels and Camping group all have a guaranteed standard.
Staff on-site are friendly and helpful and the shop has all you need for day to day provision. No hesitation in recommending this site as a pleasant place to stay and a good touring base.

The location of this site has been described by others, so I will try to avoid too much repetition.
Due to our travel schedule, we arrived with our caravan some hours ahead of the prescribed time but nevertheless, we were warmly welcomed by the English-speaking staff at Reception. We were then handed a sheaf of information papers and were shown around the pitching area by a staff member, leading by bicycle.
Although we had been assured that a sunny Superieur Confort pitch had been ‘reserved’ for us according to our original booking request some months beforehand, this turned out not to be the case. There was some difficulty meeting our request on the day, which was happily resolved to our satisfaction - eventually.
Superieur Confort pitches are the largest available and have electricity, water and drainage. It was not possible for us to position our caravan as desired and still reach the water / drainage connections using fixed hoses – so we used our water / waste containers instead. I would recommend taking extra length hoses if you intend to make connections, as the service points are very randomly positioned within pitches.
The majority of pitches are shaded and those at the top end of the site, furthest from the Chateau are in a deeply shaded area of evergreen / deciduous wood. Our pitch was at the lower end of the site, near to the Chateau, the bar and the shower blocks, which has a slightly more open aspect.
Our pitch was very large, grassy and surrounded by hedges, shrubs and palm trees to delineate it. At this stage in the season, the grass was badly worn in the centre of the pitch, which is only to be expected. It had a sunny aspect and it was just about possible to obtain a satellite TV signal, avoiding trees (which made us one of the lucky few). To our son’s delight, we were also able to connect to the site’s Wi-Fi, so we signed up for two weeks use, which came to about £20. It satisfied his yearning to be online and gave him something to do when it rained and after dark. We also used it to get the local weather forecasts!
There are tour operators on site. Static caravans are grouped at the top end of the site, and commercial tents are dotted in amongst all the other pitches – although strangely very few of them were in use whilst we were there, despite it being peak season. Almost all of the commercial units have very shady positions.
The lower toilet/shower blocks in the converted outhouses were beautifully clean and well maintained. It was never too busy and the cleaning schedule was carried out without closing the blocks. The wooden toilet / shower block further up the site was newish, but had a very ‘open’ design (no external doors) which I didn’t care for and were somewhat gloomy inside. Again, they were clean and well maintained.
There was a long list of activities available on site – according to the papers we were given, although they were not very much in evidence during our stay and we did not try any of them. The Children’s Club tent seemed to be abandoned as far as we could see. We did partake of the Bretonne Soiree – which consisted of pancakes being available to order in the Bar (twice a week). They were good, but it was a low-key event!
The small shop sold baguettes, croissants and that sort of thing, plus a few basics and emergency-type items. They did also have a limited takeaway menu, which we did not try. The ‘Potager’ Restaurant was some distance from the camping area, close to Reception and I must admit, we didn’t even take a close look at it and I suspect that it is under-used.
Many holidaymakers were complaining about the absence of the long-awaited ‘Aqua Park’. It seems that the site has been promoting this forthcoming attraction for a couple of seasons now. There is a construction site behind the main Reception, but there didn’t appear to be any work actually in progress and I would be very doubtful if this feature is completed for next year, or indeed, at all.
It does therefore, seem unreasonable that the Castels brochure, website and some of the tour operators’ literature – continue to promote this feature as being imminent, in full knowledge that this is attracting bookings. I believe that this was also the case for 2007 visitors. If an Aqua Park is important to you, I would strongly recommend checking that it has actually opened, before you commit to a booking and do not act on a promise!
The existing pool was smallish, and very much on the cold side, so we didn’t continue to use it after our first attempt – although it was quite popular with others.
Overall, the site was beautiful. It was relaxed and tranquil during the day and very peaceful at night. You can just hear some road noise from the ring-road and the occasional aircraft, but we did not feel that either of these were any imposition. The noisiest thing at night was the sound of owls hooting, which I thought was rather lovely, although our son was a little spooked by them!
Whilst staying at Lanniron also took a look around Camping Du Letty, which is a few miles away, close to Benodet. Whilst Du Letty is in a marvellous setting, we actually preferred our site at Lanniron which seemed quieter and more relaxed. We made regular trips to La Letty though – which became a firm family favourite beach destination, especially for using the kayak.
At the end of our stay, we observed that site departure times did not appear to be enforced. Therefore, we remained on our pitch until 6pm on our last day, before heading to Roscoff to catch the overnight ferry – which did make things much easier for us than waiting around at the port until nightfall.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be making a booking again for next year.
