We loved it here, we had our three kids with us 6 5 and 1.

The only downside is the main route through the campsite is more like a minor road. I didn't ever feel comfortable allowing the children out on their own.

However everything else was brilliant. Pitches are huge, the swimming pool complex is great, however more heat required on the outdoor pool. Horse stables and mini farm are brill and the kids loved to go off and feed the horses. There is loads to do here and off site you are only a few minutes from some of the best beaches around. Carnac and Vannes are fab for days out. Highly recommend.

Having read previous reviews of this campsite I was beginning to dread our holiday. I was expecting out of control teenagers, dirty toilets / sanitary blocks, bad pitches and being miles from anywhere.

It was anything but! We were staying in a Eurocamp tent (far easier than dragging everything with you) and although everything is still quite basic most things are provided, including a most welcoming bottle of red wine. I would however take a sharp knife for bread/tomatoes etc., as their knives are only good for cutting butter. Would recommend hiring the bedding as this frees up space in the boot for the wine on return trip and includes a decent sized bath towel. You only get one pillow each so you may need to consider this if you need more than one to sleep.

Our pitch was right at the opposite end of the site from the pools, etc, but nowhere was more than a 5 minute walk and on holiday it's great not to have to rush around and be able to walk and slow down.

The site was well laid out with lots of small avenues of 6 or eight units.

The sanitaires were being cleaned three times a day. The showers were clean, the toilets clean and although there were hairdryers they were not that good - there are plugs next to the mirrors for straighteners etc. So don't forget the adaptor.

The shop was expensive but we only got bread and the essential croissants there (and these were the same price as the supermarkets) most other goods were rather inflated.

The pool was exceptional. You have to remove your shoes and leave them on shelves before walking through a foot bath so the poolside was clean and no bits of dirt, etc. The rapids, slides and pools never seemed to be really busy although the site was full - unfortunately there are the sunbed hoggers but we just took some rugs to sit on as we would rather be in the water that roasting ourselves.

The kids clubs seemed to keep the children busy and appeared lots of fun. Our two teenagers were not interested as they made some friends after a few days and spent the rest of the holiday splitting their time between the friends and us (depending on their financial needs I have no doubt).

There was entertainment every night, some was rather loud and could be heard through the site but was finished by 11.30pm and most people followed the rules about being quite around pitches after 11.00. We had no problems with gangs of teenagers hanging around, getting drunk or noisy.

The site is very strict on enforcing it's alcohol rules for under 18's which I think was important.

We did not use the on-site restaurant although the girls went there with their friends one night. They had pasta with a non-alcoholic cocktail and a dessert for 15 Euro. I would imagine if you had to use the restaurant for a family of four several times during the holiday it would be expensive so that might be the only downside.

Give the adventure trail and zip wire a go. My leg muscles are still aching two days later but it was great fun and a great family activity. The people that run it also have a larger activity centre, Foret Adrenaline about a 15 minute drive, so would definitely give that a go next time.

The surrounding area is beautiful and you never seems to be more than a 5 minute drive from a beach in any direction. Pay a visit to the indoor fish market in Trinitie sur Mer, it's fantastic if you like seafood and very good value. The harbour and restaurants are also worth a visit.

The best thing about the area is no matter where you park, with the exception of Quiberon, we didn't pay for parking once. What a difference from rip off Britain where they try to fleece you at every opportunity.

I would highly recommend this site to anyone - the beach is a mile away and you can cycle or drive easily. Happy holidaying.

Our second mobile home holiday in France was at this Castels site - kids loved the pool, mini farm and playground. In June the site was not too busy and we were lucky with the weather, unfortunately on hotter days you could smell the farm animals from the pool area! The pool sunloungers did get 'bagged' early but the pool itself wasn't too busy and was perfect for a family with small children. The bar is nicely positioned near the playground so you can have a drink and supervise the children at the same time.

We found the restaurant quite good though service was slow. The children who were very small at the time loved the mini disco and the pony rides.

Surrounding area is lovely and full of interesting things to do, including a nice easy walk from the site to the standing stones. We also visited some megalithic tombs and other sites in the area, there is also good rockpooling in Carnac.

We noticed that the size of pitches varied greatly, with some tour operators (eg Kelair) having plenty of space and others positioned much closer together (eg some of the Keycamp ones). Likewise with the tents, some pitches looked much better than others! We didn't use the sanitaires but they looked very well kept.

I've read a few of the reviews of this place and thought I'd add my views based on this years holiday.

The welcome was what you should expect from Les Castels sites and this is the biggest in their chain, it is a huge site that has loads and loads of static caravans and the usual Keycamp and Canvas streets.

We ordered a super pitch with water, and we were amazed at the size of the pitch, it was massive and not sooner had I pitched then a little van pulled up and someone plumbed the van in.

The site is really good and the on site restaurant is OK, but give the takaway a miss, especially the microwave cheeseburgers!.

For shopping, do the usual and give the on site supermarket a miss, its about 25% more expensive than the super you or Lidl in Carnac itself.

The area is amazing, visits to Quiberon, and Vannes are a must!

If the weather had been better it would have been perfect, but hey, you cant always have everything.

We had chosen this site based on recommendations and were impressed by the site when we arrived.  However, when we were led to our pitch by the Eurocamp rep my heart sunk.  Our Eurocamp tent was on bare earth, not a blade of grass in sight!  The tent was also overshadowed by two large trees, meaning that even though we arrived in glorious sunshine none of it managed to find its way to our pitch!  This was definitely a bonus in the morning but not so good when we wanted to sit out at night.

We were very lucky with the weather despite one evening when there was a downpour.  This led to a about half an inch of water at the bottom of the tent.  When we mentioned this to the rep the response was 'Ah well, you get that with tents' and that was it!  As there was a slight incline to the tent opposite the water ran straight down and they were forced to dig a trench to try and stop the water getting into their tent.  As the tent was on bare, dusty earth we had to sweep the tent at least four times a day and everything was covered in a layer of dust.  It certainly put me off ever going in a tent again.

Anyway, the tent was the only negative of the holiday.  We all thought the site was fantastic.  We all hired bikes and were glad we did as the site is so large.  It was quite expensive to do so though, for six bikes for 14 nights it cost us over 300 Euros.  The beach is only about a 10 minute bike ride away.  There is a lot for the children to do on site, such as zip wires, aero bungee, horse rides and a really good kids clubs.  Our children found the 10+ kids club brilliant and got involved in loads of activities.  The bar had entertainment on most nights.

The pool complex is large and clean.  The only downside being the influx of people in pyjamas putting towels on beds then disappearing until late afternoon, meaning we invariably had to lie on concrete.  There are two water slides and a lazy river, which the children loved.  The supermarket on site was good and well stocked, if a little more expensive than the supermarkets in Carnac.  Food on site was also quite dear for what it was.

Carnac is a bustling little seaside place with a lovely beach and we ate at a couple of lovely restaurants.  However, when one of the children wanted the toilet and we ventured into the public toilets the sate of them was vile.  We found it quite expensive to eat and thought it was dearer than at home.  We found a lovely little restaurant just out of the site, through the rear exit, I think it was called Le Kergulan.  The food was lovely and the staff friendly.

Reviews have mentioned the condition of the toilet blocks on site and the noise levels.  We found the toilet blocks to always be clean, and they seemed to be being cleaned at least twice a day.  We were not bothered by noise at all and if anything it was quieter than I would have expected at night.

Had we not been in a tent this would have been the perfect holiday.  We loved it so much we have already booked for next year - in a caravan!

 What weather - rained constantly
If this is your first Castels site do not let it put you off the others. My tip would be drive to it then drive past it, unless you have aquatic children and ear plugs.

90% holiday 'package lets' but even those were crammed together like sardines.

The pitches were waterlogged and some had no grass and muddy. Very, very small pitches, some with no sun [even if it were to come out] . When shown to the pitch you were not given a choice it was take it or leave it - except you could not leave it because they took your money before they allocated you!

Noise, noise and more noise - and not from the childrens club because you expect that. Dirty ill equipped sanitary blocks. Gangs of youths roaming all night. Over hiked prices in campsite shop - need I say more.

The man on the bike hire and his wife are the kindest most helpful people on this site. When one of our party took ill the reception staff suddenly did not speak English or understand. Jean Pierre rang an ambulance and translated for us.

Carnac and St Trinite on the other hand are a joy. Good supermarkets free parking. Go to Les Druids site it may not be all singing and dancing but you get an awful lot more for your money.

Well the first thing to say is that the weather was dreadful and that isn't anyone's fault - however this meant that the pitch was like a mud-bath - in fact, like Glastonbury without the wellies ! The pitches were a big turn off- badly cared for and muddy, no dividing hedges as they had been broken and not replaced, and very very dark due to trees - hence when there was sun you didn't get it through the forest above!

Even worse our tent was pitched at the bottom of an incline and flooded 5 or 6 times in the rain due to a river forming down the channel straight into our front door - repeated requests to Eurocamp and the site management brought no sandbags or remedial work or help at all so I gave up.

Toilet block was in pretty bad order cleanliness wise (Sanitaire III) and often was smelly, dirty and had blocked loos. Another big downside was the on site takeaway and restaurant - essentially the same menu of pizzas and a microwaved burgers - and the outdoor seating was very cramped.

The facilities however were first class - great pool complex, great playgrounds, good bar, excellent Breton Night on Wednesdays, and I was only a little puzzled why pool bar was closed in late June.

Finally a great big drawback is the noise at night - and I e=mean after 11pm which is supposed to be quiet time - it's horrendous - adults, children alike care little about anyone else as the noise is loud and long - some nights still noisy aty 2 or 3 am - where were the campsite security ???

Anyway overall Carnac a nice area - campsite OK but I don't think I would go back there again .

Been to this site a couple of times before and never been disappointed. This year would have been the same but unfortunately the weather let us down. Rain, rain and more rain. The new lazy river will be a big hit for all ages. Bit upset the pool bar wasn't open. The brochure showed no indication it was high season only. Restaurant menu a bit basic but the food was okay.

We stayed here for 9 nights in May with Canvas Holidays staying in a maxi tent. Canvas let us down this time (another story) but the site itself was perfect in May. The facilities are very clean, the staff friendly, bar well priced (wine 2 euros a glass). The pools were a highlight, the indoor pool was bath temp and one of the outdoor pools was heated to very comfortable too.

Food on site was limited but reasonably priced and all freshly made, OK for a couple of restaurant visits. Site was probably at half capacity in May so felt not crowded, just about right actually although there were lots of quite loud teenagers out after 11pm - not always funny.

Area is spectacular, If you like the seaside you will love Southern Brittany. We are going to re-visit next summer in our own motorhome and will put La Grande Metairie on the stopover for a couple of nights list.
