Great site for families, but it is huge and busy - we have stayed here four times and would recommend off season. The local beaches are 5 minutes drive and fantastic as is the town and the bakeries. The site has a great pool complex, 3 pools one inside and some slides. It also has goats to feed - the kids love that and horses for hire for rides around the site. Many Brits and Irish on the site not so many other nationalities, staff are friendly and helpful and the shower block, wc, and washing up areas are spotless - they seemed to clean them 3 times a day, good site shop and a pizza place and restaurant on site. Two kids play areas, a crazy golf course and bike hire are also on site. All in all if you want a large site this one is great. Carnac is four hours drive from Cherboug.

We spent a week at this site with our two children. The site is on the whole clean and tidy with good facilities including an excellent pool complex. More than enough to entertain most kids. The pitch was good (although it had more of a slope than we would have liked). Be warned if you have a large a large caravan, some of the pitches are quite difficult to manoeuvre into. Whilst we were there we witnessed a tree being cut down to accomodate a large tourer! The showers were always hot and clean as were the toilets. The surrounding are is very scenic and ideal for walking and cycling. The nearby beach (Plage de Men Du) was very good and is about a five minute drive from the site. If you are looking for a peaceful, quiet site however, go somewhere else! You get some noise from the bar and the entertainment, but we weren't impressed by the site of young teenagers smoking and drinking. Even worse was when on one afternoon a 'banger' type firework was thrown towards us at the side of the pool. Luckily it exploded as it hit the fence. The kid who threw this one, then threw one at one of the campsite staff who was on the back of a golf buggy touring the site advertising the evening's entertainment. As if this wasn't enough, together with a couple of mates he then pelted the poor bloke with stones as he drove away! I complained to the staff, but they seemd reluctant to take positive action. Apart from that it was great!

August 2004 We spent nearly three weeks at this site in the summer and had a great holiday. The weather was a let down but nobody can legislate for this, even french people said they had never experienced weather in August like it.
We cannot agree with the reviewer that said they could not get hot showers when they wanted, everytime one of us visited the showers the water was lovely and hot and clean, the cleaners in there at least twice a day, if not more when the weather was terrible. The swimming pools, bars etc were great, the entertainment was a little to be desired for our taste, but hey, you're on holiday.
One thing that did let the site down was having the animals next to the swimming pool. Although the enclosure was cleaned regularly, there was still a smell hanging around. It's a good idea to have this sort of thing for the children, but could have been better positioned. The pitches were a bit on the small side to what we are used to but there again we do have a large outfit.
We even made old aquaintances there, meeting up with a family from South Wales that were at the same site as us in the Loire Valley last year.
Carnac itself comes alive at night, really lively with some excellent bars and restaurants. During the day, the beaches are not overly crowded, you can have your own space. Quiberon, about half an hour from the site is well worth a visit too. The Carnac stones, just outside the site are also fascinating.
All in all, a great site, 9/10, the animals letting it down. Would recommend it though.

August 2004 We had a truly wonderful family holiday at this site with our 4 children aged from 9 to 15. It is a very attractive site with plenty of facilities and the pitches are quite a good size with a fair amount of privacy with surrounding hedges.
The swimming pool area was very good though it does tend to get busy during high season. I think there were times when the pool attendants were a bit over zealous with the rules but at least they were alert and watching!
This site is noisy and lively and perfect for teenagers, in particular, although there are plenty of facilities for younger children too. However, we were very grateful to be located away from the bar area which can sometimes be quite noisy up to about 1am. This is also the area where there are quite a few young independent travellers and although they all seem to be very well behaved they do have a tendency to sit up chatting and drinking until about 6am! Mind you, on the edge of the site where we were located, we were often woken up by an amorous donkey in the field behind and an owl that liked to perch in the tree above our tent!
Showers and wash facilities were very clean though there could be a bit of a queue for a shower at busy times. The shop is OK but a bit limited. We liked the mini farm and did not find it smelly at all.
Our particular pitch was very shady (which pleased my husband) but you might want to ask for a sunny pitch if you are sun worshippers. There are a lot of trees on the site so I would think there would be few pitches which receive full sun all the time.
For our two teenagers there was plenty for them to do and they made some lovely friends. But if you don't like teenagers hanging around in groups and like peace and quiet, then this is not the site for you.
If you leave the exit on the south side, you have a five minute drive to Men Du beach, which is perfect for families. Miles and miles of sand and fairly shallow water. This is the beach with the sandbank island which you can walk out to on a sandy causeway when the tide is in.

June 03 We spent a wonderful family holiday here. It is mostly taken up by tour operators units (tents and statics) but there are still plenty of pitches for the independent traveller. The site is set out well with pitches seperated by hedging and shaded with plentiful trees, single or double occupancy pitches seem to be reserved more for the independent traveller which is nice if you like your privacy or have young children. Tour operators units are arranged in groups of around 8-10 units
The facilities offered are excellent with very clean and plentiful showers and toilets. The hot water however was the only let down, if you wanted to shower during the expected times (morning and evenings) you almost always got lukewarm water at best, so we showered mid morning or mid afternoon when we found the showers great. The blocks are also equipped with a baby bath which can be used by mums or dads and is suitable for 1 or 2 children up to about age 6 (very deep basin style in its own cublicle).
The shop and restaurant are open longer hours than many on site facilities although as usual on the continent not all day. The bar at the campsite entrance is well run and spacious and organises entertainment from discos to breton evenings, it also has a games room here and a gift shop and playground as well as the tour operators kids clubs (campers would be advised to ask for pitches at the far end of the site as these facilities can be noisy when busy...lasts into the early hours).
The pool complex is lovely and has its own bar. The facilites are great but we did find the lifeguards employed very opressive in their manner and tended to shout at children for minor misdameanours, when challenged they said its in the rules which are displayed at the entrance and became quite rude and angry when things were not in the rules that they had confronted small children for while shouting in french, were pointed out with a request that they explain where in the rules these things were! (6 year old hanging on netting seperating baby and adult pool when trying to climb out or jumping into pool not using steps so not huge issues) I would say that you should accompany your children in the water if they swim rather than standing by the side however old (which seems to keep a sensible balance between safety and enjoyment for the children and keeping the lifeguards happy and shouting at someone else). The pool does get very busy even in medium season so the beaches are probably a better bet on hot afternoons. The beach at carnac plage itself is huge and has plenty of space but does get busy very quiclky and parking can be a problem.
The washing and dryer machines were plentiful but quite expensive so we handwashed.
Pony rides are available (you lead these yourself) and bike hire from the rear of the site.
We found an idylic tree lined beach between Carnac and Trinite Sur Mer by leaving at the rear of the site and following the smaller roads, (unfortunately we cant recall the name of this beach) it has a sandbank at the far tidal mark which when the tide is out creates a pool (so the tide is never truly gone) which is about knee deep and wonderful for children to explore with fishing nets or paddle and play on surf boards and inflatables in complete safety as long as they are supervised. This beach has a small cafe and bar with toilets and very friendly owners (who like to chat and meet the kids) but nothing else commercial which can be lovely. At carnac dont miss the ice cream parlour offering the most flavours in the world (its in the guiness book of records) or watch them making their own waffle cones on the machine.
A wonderful holiday at a busy but excellent site and wonderful area.

August 03 A large and busy site a short distance from the pretty town of Carnac. The site is mainly taken up with mobile homes from tour operators, which spoils it a bit. The pitches are of a good size and the ones at the back are nice and quiet. The facilities are excellent with toilets and showers being adequate in number and usually very clean. There is a good swimming pool complex although this is extremely busy, and apart from early morning swims, I did not use the complex because of the busyness. There is a take away, bar, restaurant, table tennis, football pitch etc etc. The shop was probably the least impressive I have come across on large French sites, but was useful for croissants and bread in the mornings. They would also freeze ice packs here for you although this did cause some consternation for some reason - perhaps not many people use this facility as most are in mobile homes!
The one down-side to the site is the little farm which is adjacent to the swimming pool. It neither looks nor smells particularly appealing and I feel the site could do with getting rid of this and extending the pool complex. It was possible to rent out one of the small ponies from this farm and campers are frequently seen being dragged off into bushes by recalcitrant ponies. The horse poo is picked up pretty quickly, but still is not an asset to the site. Lovely area with many wonderful rocky beaches to explore and lots of good places to eat, one or two within walking distance of site.
