The last time I was here I was a child, having said that we never stayed, just as a day trip! The site is well laid out with terraces for touring pitches, all hard standing, of a type ( rough concrete) but they are level.
However the grass on either side isn't, so an awning is hard enough to pitch. A small note worth considering is the pitches are quite close together, if it is very busy you can see what your neighbour is having for breakfast!
There is only one toilet block/shower facility, in the middle of the 2 fields, (top field is for tents) It is old, but clean enough, could do with more regular cleaning given the number of users, and probably would benefit from a makeover. (Its only £17 per night though)
There was a bit of late night partying on the Friday night, and cars driving about etc into the wee hours, but this is more to do with lack of consideration more than the Ranger.
The walks and forest are just amazing! Newcastle is only 2 miles away for all you need! Will return!

I went to the forest park for a quiet weekend with my husband. We had a lovely time. The park is well kept although the shower block was not heated and the skylights were open its quite cold when showering. The facilities are very good with water close by and the sluice well situated. The only thing missing is a small on site cafe and shop for snacks or supplies. I would ceretainly recommend it to other friends as it was to us, although a woman close to us let her child go to the toilet beside a bin and left it there. A little off putting.

Just back from Tollymore after two nights and decided it was time to update the last reviews which are 2 years old.
Stayed on non electric site and although slopey was able to get fairly level pitch at 1730 Friday arrival. The site didn't get overcrowded and was fully booked.
Facilities were fine and cleaned twice daily though toilets got dirty Saturday evening (some people will always abuse places) and agree with others they could do with a facelift.Wardens appeared regularly to keep an eye!
People have complained in the past about noise but apart from the crows at 5am I was surprised how quiet it was at night.
Stunning views and walks and a 2 mile drive to Newcastle (got sunburnt climbing Slieve Donard!) and the beach.
All in all enjoyed the stay and going back in August :-) £15/night

Situated in Bryansford - a few miles out of Newcastle, making this a handy base for anyone seeking to visit the Mournes.
Large space for tents but unfortunately we picked a very busy time which meant it could be a little noisy. The facilities were average due to the fact that children were playing with water balloons around the toilet block.
Plenty of showers and toilets but a little messy. Park ranger was very helpful and approachable. Beautiful park for walks but has no play facilities for children.
In spite of this, I would visit again.

We used this site heading north to the Antrim coast from Dublin as a stopover. It is set in a beautiful location, and the reception were very helpful on our arrival, however there appeared to be no personnel on site over night and at times it was quite noisy. The facilities were not very clean. The pitches, although hardstanding, were not very even and the outfits pretty crammed in.
On the positive side, some really beautiful walks from the site along the river and worth a visit just for this!

Tolymore forest park has to be one of the most relaxing places to visit in Northern Ireland, from the beautiful and spectacular forest walks that are available, to the outstanding beauty of the mourne mountains.
Granted there is no park for the kids to play in, but there is an amazing forest that the children will find plenty to entertain themselves for hours on end.
There are lots of different levels in tollymore which can be a problem especially if there is a lot of rain which could lead to your awning being saturated with water.
On the down side the forestry service could do with upgrading some of the sites.
One of the most disappointing things about Tollymore is the washing facilities. Granted the showers are always hot and clean but the laundry facilities are always broken. Either 1 or both of the washing machines or tumble dryers are out of order. It seems they are always awaiting parts that never seem to come.
Apart from that, Tollymore has a lot to offer and despite the negative feedback I know i'll probably be back for more of the same next year!

Set in a great location,I've been to this site for the past 4 years & I must comment on the general condition of the facilities.Main toilet block was, frankly, disgusting.Unclean sinks, toilet cubicles with broken locks,no paper, one didn't flush & was stinking, woman using hair driers right beside the washing up sinks, top toilet block was cleaner but some broken glass in windows & half the ceiling missing.Free showers but again not kept clean. Warders around frequently but a lot of noise late at night. No shop on site. This could be a great campsite with its location but seems to be run by doing the minimum maintenance possible. Its got worse each time I've went. I think the next time I go walking in the mournes,i'll find somewhere else to camp.Couldn't fault the staff I spoke to and at 13 quid a night it is cheap

My husband and I just spent the weekend at Tollymore and on arrival the view from our chosen pitch of the mountains and forest was outstanding. Sadly the view was the only outstanding thing about our 2 night stay in 'Psycho Camp' as a fellow camper christened it! First of all were the dirtiest toilet/shower facilities I have ever seen - totally appalling. Secondly, some of our fellow campers were clearly enjoying themselves rather too much with electro music blaring out from late morning to late night, drunk/drugged people shouting for hours on end then to top it all off an attempted murder (highlighted on the local news over the weekend)with a man who apparently 'lived' on the site being stabbed 7 times in an alcohol/drug induced argument! Rules clearly stated 'no fires allowed' which wasn't even barely adhered to and clearly ignored by the park Rangers on duty. This site is deemed to be a family site which it clearly is not. All in all a total nightmare and never to be repeated experience. Such a shame in such a beautiful setting and in what could be a really great campsite.

Beautiful, scenic site. Hardstanding pitches but not always level. Some sites prone to flooding in heavy rain. Toilet blocks freezing but clean enough. Walks to die for and if the site is quiet deer visit in the early hours of the morning.

As others have said the great thing about Tollymore Forest caravan park is its location in one of Northern Ireland's most scenic areas. The forest park itself has several great walks and facilities etc for picnicking. The site has 3 areas, one for tents, a small area of pitches for caravans and camper wagons without any electric and the main area with electric hook ups (16A despite the sites own website saying 6A). While the pitches are not fully serviced, there are water taps and drains dotted all over the park meaning you don't need to go far. All that is good, however not everything is perfect. The shower / toilet facilities are old, not heated (I was there in early March and with sky lights etc open the toilet block was freezing). The floors were wet and dirty and in general I was very glad my Caravan has a large end bathroom allowing me to use my own facilities. It is also worth noting that despite having hard standing pitches these are not level, so you could easily need to have levellers with you.
I was also shocked to find 6 twin axle Hobby vans towed by Transit fans and with washing machines etc working outside of the vans, dog kennels etc). This really made me uncomfortable to leave my caravan unattended.
All in all despite the poor toilet/shower facilities the shear beauty of the location makes this park well worth a visit.
