Just returned from this site, our first experience of staying on a CL site. I hope we haven't peaked too soon!.
The site is absolutely brilliant. The view accross Bassenthwaite and Skiddaw is to die for. The shower blocks are fantastic, warm water and immaculately clean. We had a fantastic time and will be visiting again.

We have just had another successful trip to Irton House. We have been coming here for over 15 years. The views of Bassenthwaite lake are outstanding. The toilets and showers are kept really clean. The pitches are all individual. This is one of the drier parts of the Lakes and siting the van has never been a problem, even in the wet with my 2WD cars. We will be back soon. Try the pub food at the hostelry where John Peel used to go. Remember the song, Do ye ken John Peel at the break of the day. Ask the owners about it.

This is our 3rd visit to this site and would recommend it to anybody and will definitely be back next year and hopefully later this year.
This is our sort of site, small, quiet and well maintained, if you want camp-site shop, bar and kids adventure playground look elsewhere.
There are plenty of things to do and see in the area and the coast is within easy striking distance.
The owners are very helpful, the last twice when we arrived it was raining and both times was given help to site the caravan.
The lakes are a wonderful area with plenty to do.

Just returned from Irton Farm this is our Third visit we love the place Joan and Rej the owners cant do enough for you they are lovely people too. There are two toilets and showers combined they are spotless. The views from the front of the park are fantastic of woods, Bassenthwaite Lake and the Fells. We didn't want to come home its so peaceful there. Please give this campsite a try you will love it. There is a pub/Hotel about a mile and a half away we didn't try it we were happy to stay on camp at night outside the caravan just admiring the views. Keswick is about 6 miles away we went there a couple of times Market day is good lots of lovely stalls. The Cumbrian people always make you feel welcome.

We arrived at Irton House Farm to be met by a very wet day. We were told we had to pay up front which didn't bother us but it was the way we were told.
We were told that 'their man' would site the van for us as he didn't want all the grass torn up. My husband wasn't very happy about handing our outfit over to a complete stranger (especially being an experienced HGV driver) and he insisted he would take care when driving on the grass.
We were shown to the pitches which were all empty except one. We tried to pick the driest but to be honest the field looked very muddy. We plodded around for 2 days and when we looked, the van had sunk down so far it was virtually touching the axle.
The views were outstanding if you were on the front field but certainly not on the back field where the view was blocked by trees and bushes.
Feeling rather disgruntled we went and spoke to the owner about the condition of the pitches, she agreed that really there shouldn't be anyone on them as they were not serviceable.
There had been a lot of rain and I understand that you cant control the weather but I feel it would have been common courtesy for them to ring us before we set off and explain.
We asked for our money back and they refunded £70 of the £90 we had paid for the remaining 5 nights.
Lovely area, and I'm sure under better weather conditions it would have been a different story.

Management response: Other people were enjoying their stay with us, in spite of the weather (the wettest summer on record) and this customer is the only dissatisfied customer we have had, as everyone can read from all the other reviews.
We go out of our way to help the customers site their vans and towing them off again and most people appreciate this assistance.
They also appreciate the centrally-heated, immaculately clean toilets & showers, especially in wet weather, as many people comment.
I offered to refund his money, as we don't like to think that anyone is going home disgruntled. |

Can only agree with all previous reviews.
What a fabulous site!
Great facilities, great views, even had great weather.
Nice private screened bays, everybody really friendly but not in your face, toilets and showers very clean and even fully heated with endless hot water.
Warm welcome from Joan and Reg, all the other units there at the same time were regulars so that says it all, we will definitely be returning in the future.

We only live 25 minutes from this site, but always fancied a look, as it has some good reviews. The view we had across Bassenthwaite lake was the best I have seen.
The owners were very welcoming and the toilet/showers were spotless and heated! If all CL's were this good, you wouldn't go near the big commercial sites.
As well as the caravan pitches, they have a static for hire and a number of letting properties. It would be a great place to plan a holiday with family and friends who are not into caravanning.

Wonderful find. My husband not usually a fan of CLs but this may have converted him. Beautifully kept and box mown pitches. We booked for 2 but stayed 3 nights and had the place to ourselves. Gorgeous views over Bassenthwaite and so quiet and peaceful. Washrooms and showers immaculate, the heating was a bonus on chilly mornings. We will definitely be back.

We have just visited this exceptional site recently and have to say without a shadow of doubt that this has to be one of the very, best CLs sites anywhere in the country. Wow! what an amazing view from the campsite, absolutely stunning. To say you have 'a room with a view' is a mighty understatement, it is quite simply breathtaking.
The site is situated on the Northern edge of the Lake District National Park. You look over the magnificent Derwent valley with Bassentwaite Lake taking up Centre Stage and the glorious lakeland fells all around. If you are looking for peace and tranquillity in beautiful surroundings, look no further than this.
The owners, Reg and Joan are quite simply fantastic, they are so friendly and helpful and will do almost anything to help you enjoy your stay. There are two small toilet / shower rooms which are kept immaculate and are even heated for your comfort. All pitches are grassed (regularly mown) with electric hook up's.
The site is a small part of a 200 acre working farm with sheep and lambs in abundance. You will often see Reg driving around in his little buggy checking on his sheep. He is quite a unique character, with all the time in the world to stop for a friendly chat.
The air is so clean and unpolluted, it was a wonderful short stay which we certainly plan to revisit again in the near future. 10 out of 10 for us!

A fabulous gem of a site with astonishing views of Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite Lake. Lovely and quiet, level well cared for pitches with hedge screenings, very easy to get to, and a nice wide entrance.
Reg and Joan are smashing, friendly hosts, and the pet lambs are something to see. Great walks down to the lake too. Also table tennis, pool table inside a barn - great. Near to Keswick and Cockermouth - local pubs in the near vicinity.
All in all a cracking site - don't tell everyone!
