Stayed here for a week with a pink campervan. Clive and Sue are very helpful and will assist at any time. When you first drive up the site is quite surreal but once you are pitch you feel very much at home. There is a breakfast service which is great value.
The site is within 10 minutes of Blackgang Chine and 15-20 minutes from the needles. We visited the Wight mouse Inn on a number of occasions and the food at atmosphere there is good.
The site is on the southern side of the Island and the camping pitches can be exposed but there is really no rules as to where you can pitch as long as access to facilities are not impeded.
Will return next year.

Lovely location, I felt like we were going back in time with the 1930's style holiday cabins. I enjoyed our stay here the owners were very friendly, toilets were a bit run down and could do with a revamp, nice little play park and a warm indoor pool.
I was expecting a shop on site and a bar but it was never open the week we were there. The site has a laundry which was handy, a games room, a kitchen for use. I would definitely return but am wondering why facilities seem a bit old an run down.I have the impression that this was once a busy park with full facilities which have gradually closed.
Good location for Black gang chine, the pearl factory and the needles and the coastal path is through the edge of the site, not much in walking distance from what I can see but may be wrong.
If you have children do not pitch near the cliff edge as there are no barriers and a steep fall !

Just came back today after 2 very good weeks. Site has fabulous views with only a few minutes walk to the beach passed the site next door. It has a large pool which does not get too crowded.
The toilets/showers could do with an update but are always clean and tidy and checked frequently. The pitches are large and you can pitch more or less where you want. We looked at other sites on the island which we had considered prior to booking and definitely feel we made the right choice.
Yes on arrival the facilities can look dated but compared to the big sites the space, cleanliness, peace and tranquillity more than made up for it. Its only a short 15 minute drive to Newport with Morrisons & plenty of shops. Black gang Chine is 10 mins up the road and The Needles 15 minutes the other way.
Plenty of great walks for the dog who is also allowed on the beach. The beach is shingly but when the tide is out becomes quite sandy. Will definitely go back. NB Missed our ferry as we ended up on wrong side of river for East Cowes but they let us on the next one at no extra charge!

A former holiday-camp site with 1930s style chalets and camping / caravans in the middle. We've come back here for five years running, staying the chalets or camping. A key advantage of the site is the large heated indoor pool - fantastic for the children. Toilets/showers are basic but kept clean. You can pitch pretty much where you want and put your car next to the tent. Even in August they don't try and overcrowd the site - something we really like. There is a Children's play area with slide and sand pit.
Clive and Sue who run the place are very friendly.
An adjoining field - used for overspills in August is good for kite flying or football.

Set in the most picturesque part of the Island with easy access to a lovely sandy and very quiet beach. You can take the cliff top path and walk down to the beach at Grange Chine (5mins to east) stroll along beach westwards and return along cliff top from IOW pearl, beautiful at sunset. 20 minute stroll to village with 2 village stores and a very good pub (good food, fair price). Site is like a throwback in time with retro chalets painted brightly. Some are for accommodation, others serve as laundry, kitchen, games, toilets and showers. Pool is indoors and warm and the site owners friendly and helpful. I am local to the area and feel like I have been on a real holiday when I stay here just a few miles from home. The actual playground is only small, however the kids have so much space to run around in they really do not need much in the way of swings etc. You need to go off site for supplies but never far as the island is small. If you are looking for peace, relaxation and landscape you will love this site.

Upon arrival we had a look around before pitching and were met by a nice lady who told us the prices and took our money. It was only after the money was taken did she then advise us that the pool was only open 1 hour in the afternoon and the cafe would not be serving unless you pre-booked there and then.
However, that said, the site was lovely, it is on the edge of the cliffs, which are fast falling into the sea, and the views are stunning in both directions.
Although the pool was only open for a short time each day, it was nice looking, very large, but as we were the only ones on site, apart from one other caravan, I saw nobody using it.
The toilet and shower was very basic, although they served their purpose and were more than adequate. The washing up area was clean with laundry facilities, although I did not use them, my friend did.
The site appears stuck in the 50's with the various coloured beach huts / chalets and this only adds to the ambience of the site.
The site is on the main road on the South of the island with a large Co-op and others in Freshwater for the shopping, with some smaller shops dotted around, but none really in walking distance, unless you go to the other campsite next door, which we did for basics.
There is a local pub in the village, which although I did not go to, my friends did and they had a superb meal, although rather expensive but very delicious, with stunning views if the weather is fine to sit outside.
The IOW has tons of attractions, which I don't need to tell you about here, but this site is well located for the Needles, Black Gang Chine and much more.
Being on the edge of the cliff the site is exposed and it got very windy indeed, I did think my friend in his tent would end up across the road a couple of times when the gusts came and they certainly shook my campervan! But that aside, the views make up for the wind, but don't forget the storm straps.
Overall a good site, I would not go back as the island has so many more sites to offer, but worth going to, but at £18 for the night with three adults and electric hookup, it was a tad on the pricey side.

A wonderful scenic site, on the top of a cliff so lovely views. No marked pitches means that you can more or less park yourself anywhere. Pitches aren't level but not steep. Nice pool, a little small but rarely busy, in fact we were quite often the only people in there. Owners friendly enough, though seem friendlier to the 'regulars'. Shop ok for the odd pint of milk or loaf of bread. The site itself is odd looking, the field for caravans, tents etc is encircled by brightly coloured looking sheds (Chalets) looks like something from the 1920s. Very steep walk down to the beach on a gravely / uneven path. That is once you've walked through fields and another caravan park! Toilets and showers were clean, bit outdated and shower cuciles had no room to get dressed / undressed. We had a bad storm while we were there which ruined several tents and awnings (Glad to say we were ok) However we enjoyed our stay over all, my son (aged 9) enjoyed the freedom, but isn't really suitable for youger children as no barrier to stop them going over the cliff edge! I'd give this site a 7/10!

Once you get over the initial shock (it's a bit like travelling back in time) you'll find out that this site is unique! Around the perimiter of the pitching area are lots of brightly painted chalets reminiscent of Hi de Hi. But don't let that put you off. The site is literally on the cliff edge so don't be tempted to pitch too close as the games room disappeared over the edge a year or so ago and the site itself is getting smaller each year!!
The owners couldn't be more friendly and helpful and do a stunning breakfast. The pool is very old and tired but I guess that updating it hasn't been number one priority as the whole site has obviously had to have loads of work done to it since C&S bought it. Ask them for the history of the site as it's very interesting starting out as a 1930's holdiay camp, through wartime occupation and then a big fire that burnt down the central main building. C&S have taken on a job and a half to renovate the place and are always busy with paint, timber etc, etc, but never too busy to have a chat/help you. The pitches are not marked out so you can take up as much space as you need but we found the ground to be somewhat stoney and undulating which doesn't make pitching easy - but, hey, that's camping folks! The showers etc. are not really adequate for the site at peak times but I believe that's partly due to some being lost over the edge of the cliff!!!! Don't let that put you off though.
Oh, the other downside that we found was that there seemed to be a number of travellers' vehicles (old ambulances etc. etc.) stored around the back of the pool which I was told are for a group of travellers who use the site each summer. Not really my ideal neighbours - there was one library van there while we were there and a couple of other odd vehilces and we found the children from them were very intrusive.
Overall an unusual site. Definitely not a dull moment there and a talking point for some years! Not sure that I would choose to return if I could find a more conventional site but it obviously suits some people to a T.

August 2004 Disabled Accessibility: 90%
General Description: The site is on a slightly sloping area but traversed with easily manageable concrete pathways. There are no marked pitches whihc means there are no problems with overcrowding. Depending on your particular wheelchair and abilities, all facilities on the site are accessible.
Toilet:Easy level access with plenty of room to turn a powered chair around.
Shower:This will be installed shortly in toilet room.
Games Room: Slight ramp and small doorstep but wide enough for most wheelchairs.
Washing Up/ Kitchen: Slight ramp and small doorstep but wide enough for most wheelchairs.
Washing / Drying Room: Slight ramp and small doorstep but wide enough for most wheelchairs.
Swimming Pool:Easy level access to both changing rooms and edge of pool. There is level access to a shower in the men's changing room although the entrance to the shower is a little narrow for some chairs.
Dog Walking Area: Not accessible at the moment (August 2004) due to a ridge of earth at the entrance.
Play Area: Open level access.
Tea Rooms / Breakfast Room: Easy access over small doorstep. Inside the raised area has plenty of room to move around. The owners will bring food to the table so you don't need access to the lower area which has a step too great for a wheelchair.
Shop: Fully accessibile with small doorstep.
Alternative Accommodation: For those of you not wishing to camp there is a fully fitted chalet that has been converted for use by the disabled.
General Comments: WOW! This site is amazing and not like any other we have visited during the last two years. We had just upgraded to a trailer tent and this was our first real test of erecting it - help appeared from everywhere! It was almost surreal, rather than sit in their tents and caravans, people were eager and willing to help us get everything sorted in record time. It wasn't just for us either, anyone who needed help got it.
We had breakfast everyday - because it was very good and excellent value, in the breakfast room. How many times have you had to ask for assistance and been made to feel like you're a pain in the neck? Not here! When I arrived one morning on my own the owner, Clive, simply asked what I would like from the lower section and brought it over.
Our two week holiday at Brighstone was supposed a to be taster for going to France next year, to check out a ferry with dogs and disabled etc. France has been blown out of the water now and we are going back to Brighstone next year and hopefully again this year for an extra short break.
All this stress-free magic is orchestrated painlessly by Clive and Sue who own and actively manage the site to ensure the pleasureable experience of their campers. The spirit of "Hi-De-Hi" lives on!
Extremely Highly Recommended

July 02/June 03 /Aug 03 /Apr 04 Our favourite site!! Not the most impressive to look at but the owners, Clive and Sue, are the friendliest people you could hope to meet. Covered pool on site. This is a people friendly site currently being refurbished to a very good standard. Excellent value breakfast served in the new (nearly Finished!) restaurant We have left our unit on site for the year and hope to visit at least monthly.
