We have just returned from our second visit to this campsite. Last time we went you had to pay for showers and hot water but it was free this time. The showers and toilets cleaned every day and the washing machine comes in handy if like us you have travelled by train so had to limit the amount of stuff you took. We camped in the big field with the toilet block in.After the first night spent rolling out of bed we were fine after turning tent round. The shop comes in handy for milk but would be even better if you could buy a few more things like bread and bacon and a few other things. You can charge your phone and camcorders for 40p.Very lovely friendly people ready to help if you ever need it. After walking to and from beach a couple of times we all felt fitter and really enjoyed the walk. You can walk to a londis shop and post office in about 15 mins also next to it is a good shop for camping stuff and gifts at reasonable prices or you can walk up the lane to the top where there is a garage that has cash machine and sells most stuff. Also there is a good bus service runs past the site. We were really lucky with the weather which made the holiday even better. There is a family pub near the beach that does food and a chippy. Although the chippy shuts at 7. There is lifeguard patrol on the beach which puts your mind at rest when the kids are in the sea. They gave excellent first aid when my son was stung off a weaver fish. A brilliant time had by all.We will return again next year

A nice site although flat ground hard to find, but this is Cornwall not Norfolk! facilities cleaned religiously and showers have controllable temperature which is a god send with sunburn. Pricings very clearly displayed on arrival and reasonable with additions such as a gazebo at only £1 per night. The shop was open / reception 6 to 8 pm daily but poorly stocked and local shops are a drive or a steep hill in both directions. The local beach car park is daylight robbery at £1ph 24/7 and the beach is more tailored to novice surfers than the sand castle builder, but a short drive or a bus ride into Marizion gives you a flat sandy beach overlooking st Michael's mount with cafes, ice creams, fun fair(but not intrusively noisy or open late) and a large car park for £2 all day. In short lovely area and well worth a visit we will again and for an evening meal I would recommend the Meadery in Newlyn a medieval themed restaurant where cutlery is optional and quantity and freshness and value are excellent. But arrive early as you cant book and there was a queue on a Monday night but worth the wait. Hope this encourages others to visit this fantastic area. Thanks for reading

This is a site my family and I have always tried to have a break at every year no matter what other holiday we take, as it is the one place where we really stop and relax! It is like another home to us. We missed last year and with other holiday commitments coming up this year we felt we needed to go down for a quick break over the May Bank holiday weekend. We were very surprised to find the Loo block had been re-decorated and painted, mirrors replaced and new shower units (no more 20p vending for shower) were fitted. Even the blokes shower had been tiled (still only the one in and two outside). At this time of year the grass was long in the middle as usual and the site was quiet. £10.50 a night for a medium sized tent reflected the free showers from previous years. The hedges were cut back and the banks cleared of scrub so you can butt the caravan or tent up close to the outside walls giving a bit more shelter. The views as always are breath taking and the peace and tranquillity you get from being a non commercial site is priceless. Location as always is central to everything for both North and South coast activities and centres. St Ives is maturing from the 1970's cash in on the Brit. Sea side resort / 'kiss me quick' scene to quite a sophisticated restaurant and gastronomic centre - eating is available at all price points but it is now the choice of quality eating that is changing the place, mingled with the ever present galleries and Art exhibitions. The downside is the ever growing problem of second home ownership and the small villages that now take on the feel of the Mary Celeste during the week and even weekends. Small business cannot be sustained and results in early closing even on Bank holidays. There is no simple answer but if more people came down for short breaks and not be put off by the distance, it could work out well for this most beautiful county.

I have been visiting this campsite since I was a twinkle in my dads eye 3 times a year at least. Every year at least 3 generations of our family has gone down and there is something for each and every one of us. The site itself is absolutely beautiful with the views of most of Praa Sands and the farmers fields. There are 2 fields in use which host a whole range of campers, most of which large families which have been on holiday every year since I can remember. There is a set of toilet blocks with free modern showers, toilets, hairdryers, sinks and mirrors, all of which kept in perfect condition and cleaned EVERY day in peak times. A laundrette with all the necessities , a pay phone and a shop. The family that actually run the working farm and campsite are very lovely people and are there 24 hours a day to help with anything! If you ring up in advance you can even research a pitch in your desired location. The location is smack in the middle of EVERYTHING and the beach is great. To sum up, the campsite, the location and the people all make a holiday what it should be. Make sure you stop their if want a pleasant holiday. (Don't forget to wave at Colin when he drives past in his tractor!)

We visited this site for a week after reading previous the review on this site. The owner was very friendly and the whole site very relaxed. One thing we particularly liked was that we weren't expected to rush off on our last morning, so we could take our time and pack up without stress. There were two camping fields, both sloping, but it was possible to find flat areas We camped in the smaller, low field which gave us a view of the sea between the trees. it was very peaceful and sheltered, with camping mainly along one side. The larger field, on the other side of the lane was busier and there were two or three large parties camped there, but it was not noisy or crowded. The facilities were basic, but not as bad as I had imagined, although I understand from my son and husband that the men's facilities were pretty poor. Only one shower and another in a little seperate block. The ladies were housed in a concrete building, plenty of loos, one with a sink in the cubicle. Several sinks, a 20p hair dryer, mirrors , 4 showers which were free at the time we visited due to repeated vandalism of the 20p meters, all were fitted out with what appeared to be brand new power showers and had plenty of hot water. Not huge, but adequate, one or two hooks, but no flat surfaces. All facilities were clean, just a little old. There were no draining boards in the washing up area which was pretty awkward. My only real gripe was 20p for hot water, not because I object to paying, but it is just a pain to remember to take 20p for washing up, as I said showers were normally supposed to be 20p too. We have a large tent which cost £11 a night and I would happily pay £12 if I didn't have to keep remembering to take 20p's. In the end we boiled the kettle and did the washing up at the tent. If you want a quiet site, 5 minutes downhill walk to a superb beach (10 minutes back again!) then I would recommend this one.

August 2003 This is a family run Camp site on a working farm found on the edge of the Cornish South coast. Sited just 5 mins walk and overlooking 1 mile of golden beach at Praa Sands, this site is situated on the side of a hill with clear views across the west side of the Lizard penninsula. The site caters for Tents of all sizes as well as Caravans and Motorhomes. In peak season the owners mow the site to make all the pitches available, whilst during the low season, pitches are around the edge of the site. Facilities here are very basic and not in the best order, so hardier campers and those wanting peace and quiet will do well here. Brick built Loos, showers (20p a go) and wash stands make up the ablutions with additional corrugated tin ablutions. Farm shop and office with payphone. Laundry centre with washer and separate dryer (not reliable) iron, washing sinks for dishes etc with hot water (20p). Outside drain cover and water access for chemical loos. Great walks along beach and to Praa village, post office, shops and Bar and eating places. Nearby Pub Godolphin Arms great for family meals - book 01736 762879. Penzance 15 drive west and Helston 10 min drive east. All have good shopping and places of interest. We have been to this site since 1981 and have only missed a year 3 times. It has its own basic magic and is complete escapism without the frills. My personal Site score = 3/10 for facilities 10/10 for location. 8/10 for beach. You be the judge.
