Just returned from a 10 night stay for the first two weeks of the school summer holidays.
The location is is great, a few minutes walk to the beach and a short drive to other lovely beaches along the coast. However the campsite itself was very disappointing.
There was no guidance regarding where to pitch, as the site filled up over the course of our stay pitching became more random and squeezed. The guidance says 90 pitches but in reality there were much more than that allowed on while we were there. The spaces in the middle of the fields were occupied and there was little safe space for the children to run around and play safely because the cars were using the remaining space to drive around in.
The amenities were not sufficient in number or quality to cope with the number of people the owners allowed on the site:
-Two of the four female electric showers broke leaving long queues for the remaining two showers which also did not provide consistent hot water
-There was rarely any hot water in the washing up room which had only four sinks and 2 drainers for hundreds of people
-The tumble dryer broke
-The toilets always ran out of toilet paper and hand towels and this was not re-stocked frequently enough
- One of the toilets in the lady's had a broken flush for the the entire time
-The tap on the drinking water broke off in your hand
-The lights in the toilet block kept shorting out at night!
One look at the overflowing rubbish bins and insufficient recycling bins was evidence that far to many people were using too few amenities.
During our stay we had two days and nights of rain and the paths into the fields became boggy and slippy. The higher tent field has one shared entrance for pedestrians and cars, the ground was churned up and the cars were slipping as they navigated the small steep gateway which pedestrians including small children were also trying to use to walk down to the toilet block.
This campsite has the potential to be a lovely place but we feel they let far to many people on and the facilities were poorly equipped to cope.

Can't wait to get back to Higher Pentreath Campsite with my family for the 3rd year running. Have met lots of families there who return year after year.
Good:
Very friendly campsite
Owners were very warm & welcoming
Plenty of space for children to play
Little shop for emergency supplies
Wash room with iron
Gorgeous Beach (Praa sands) is 10 minute walk
Easy to reach other locations
Electrical hook up's available
Tesco, Sainsburys and Lidl about 15 min drive
Bargain price: We paid £16 per night for 2 adults and 4 children
Bad: Yes the loo's and showers could be better but we are camping and not staying in a 5* hotel!

Previous reviewer clearly felt this site was not for them.
We loved it.
As many have commented before the facilities are basic and the site slopes - quite steeply in places, but even in mid-August it wasn't so packed that we weren't able to find a levellish spot we were happy with.
Friendly, helpful owners - freezer for ice packs - free charging of mobiles etc (though not very secure) - free wifi at office - endless hot water - curry van on Sundays.
Queues for showers at peak times (approx 9 til 11am and 6 til 10pm) but otherwise not.
Clients mostly pleasant and respectful, plenty of families so lots of holiday friends for kids.
Fantastic location with views to Pengersick Castle and Praa Sands. Easy walk to Praa Sands and Pub. Superbly situated for days out to Lands End, St Ives, Lizard, Marazion etc etc.
Wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Only 12 reviews on UKCampsite since 2003 - be warned!
We found this site on CoolCamping and thought 'It must be of a certain standard then!'
The site has a total of three fields. The flattest field is reserved in advance apparently because of the EHU. The two other camping fields are on such a gradient that their only other use would be for olympic sledging in winter.
The welcome was warm. Fortunately we took our time selecting a pitch and avoided the single sex groups that had been allowed on site.
The toilet block was grim. AVOID. AVOID AVOID. Unless you like mouldy shower curtains and a camp clientele who struggle to differentiate between toilets and showers. The only bonus was the hot water. They can manage hot water. We can recommend this site if you like to feel dirtier after a shower. I would not let my 6 yr old use the loos without an accompanying adult.
Apart from cheap site fees, free hot water and the freedom to have a camp fire I cannot think of any other benefit to this site. I would rather pay more for a decent campsite and drive to a good beach than be located within walking distance of the over commercialised Praa Sands.
The chemical toilet disposal lacked the luxury of rinsing.
We will not be visiting again. Would rather sleep in the car!

Ok, this site is very basic and there's an element of 'you get what you pay for' but at £15 a night for the 4 of us in our trailer tent during the school summer holidays we're not complaining. Site is on a slope but level pitches can be found. If you're the kind that wants all the bells and whistles you'll hate this place but if all you need is a field, a tap and some basic facilities then it's the place for you. As others have made pretty accurate comments on the toilet block I won't add one. Suffice to say it could use a little modernising, however, I suspect this would have an effect on the pricing structure. Fantastic beach a short walk away. The main beach area can get busy but a further short walk and you lose the crowds. Worth noting that if you drive down there is free parking behind the small Londis store. All in all we liked the place and will almost definitely go back, it's a nice place to base yourself and there are some real hidden gems in this part of Cornwall if you get out and look for them.

After completing 12 miles of the SW Coast Path we returned to our camper in the Praa Sands car park with the intention of camping at The Old Farm, Lower Pentreath, however, when we arrived there was a sign on the gate saying “no motor homes” so we had no choice but to drive up the hill to Higher Pentreath. However, on our return home I emailed The Old Farm and they do take camper vans but not motor homes.
The view from Higher Pentreath Farm site is fantastic, but we weren’t particularly impressed with much else. On arrival we were told to pitch between a caravan and a family erecting their tents. There was a small pitch there but we don’t usually camp on top of other people like this if there are plenty of other spaces. Anyway, we did what we were told and parked the van this way and that, to try and get it level with our chocks, but to no avail, so we gave up and parked in the vacuous space where there wasn’t anyone else parked. In the wind and lashing rain the site looked unlikely to fill up… This pitch wasn’t much better and we couldn’t get level. Most of the caravans had extra breezeblocks under their legs to prop them up higher. We spend the night sliding down the bed.
I couldn’t find an elsan disposal point and it was also unclear whether the laundry room was also used for dishes, but we couldn’t find a separate wash up. The toilet block itself is straight out of the 1960s/70s. The showers were electric so fully adjustable and hot, but the cubicles had a painted concrete floor, with the previous coat of paint showing through.
This site has great views and is handy for Praa Sands, but is a little on the basic side, so this needs to be kept in mind when deciding where to stay. It cost us £13. 50 including hook up for a night in June and the weather was shocking, so maybe with a bit of sunshine it would all have looked better.

This campsite is one of the best that I have found. I like it for its simplicity and lack of facilities. There are fantastic views of the beach and its only a short walk down to coastal path to the bar and cafe's on the beach.
If you want a club house and 5 star facilities then this is not the site for you. There is a functioning but basic toilet and shower block for both men and women. The men also have another shower in a separate block, but still this only makes two showers for the men, but the womens have 4. There is a 'washing up area', and a washing machine.
So as I say, basic but everything you need. So if you are ok with basic, like great views and want large open spaces for the kids to run around with easy access to the beach, I cant recommend this site enough.
Looking forward to the 5th summer in a row.

Our one night here was tainted largely by the inconsiderate people who turned up late right next to us and spent hours doing their best to disturb everyone, but overall I would say this is an average site. Had hoped to get spot at The Old Farm next door which looked really pretty and well groomed, as opposed to this farmer's field on a hill. Was difficult to find a flat pitch here. The welcome was less than warm from some grumpy woman who told us to pay at reception, which never appeared to open. Toilet/shower blocks were grotty but were free, but wouldn't fancy a whole week of them (we stayed 1 night). When reception finally opened turned out to be a tiny shop with some very basic provisions. The positives of this site were the view over Praa Sands, 5 min walk to huge sandy beach and walking distance to other quieter ones along coast path. Pub at bottom of hill the Sandbar right on beach bit of a surfer shack, nice beer, few games for kids, chilled atmosphere and nicest burgers I've ever tasted. Wouldn't stay here again but you get what you pay for - £8 for 2 man tent.

We have just returned from a weeks camping at this quiet and fantastically located site.
We have a young family (aged 2&4) and the beach was perfect. Lovely sand, with interesting rock pools to explore. The beach had 3 places to eat-the Sandbar serving better than average pub grub. The other two cafes offering more basic options.
The beach was an adult 5 minute walk down a lane. Mostly this was fine, but beware of the bus around the corners. It is possible to park at the beach but not cheap.
The campsite itself is divided into 2 areas, the lower smaller area has fantastic views of the beach. Unfortunately, due to the rain in the previous weeks, this part of the site was closed to new arrivals so we were asked to use the upper field. This is much bigger, but does not have the beach views. However, the surrounding countryside views are still nice. Both fields are on a slope.
The toilet block is a converted barn with tin roof / concrete floors etc, but the facilities were clean and the showers surprisingly lovely.
The biggest downside was the lack of a village store en-route to the beach. The post office selling basic supplies was another 10 min walk in the other direction (hard trying to convince 2 year old to walk the extra). However, if willing to get in the car this is not a problem-there is even a 24hour tescos within 10 mins.
Best wet weather activity we had was the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth - the kids especially loved climbing in the RNLI boat!
If you are here at peak times and want to visit St Ives, much easier to use the Park&Ride(Train), which goes along the coast, than to try and drive into the town!

We have just returned to this site as a family of 4 after a two year break. This has always been one of our favourite places to stay. The Andrewartha family have made some significant changes for the best since we were last here and so I thought it only fair to share with you. Most significant is the upgrade to the Camp site shop where as well as booking in you can buy milk and immediate needs or have your phone charged, freeze cool packs for a nominal fee. The showers have been re-decorated and all showers are now FREE (covered by daily fee) as is the hot water for washing utensils etc. The Gas fired tumble dryer is still not repaired and would be better to just be removed if this service is no longer available! The views remain impressive and we had an added benefit of staying in the top field (only open peak season) where the view is even more expansive across the Lizard Peninsula. The Farm House is now converted in to 3 flats for Holidays rental through Hoseasons - so check that out if you want granny and grandad to stay when they don't want to tent or caravan their holiday! There were more people this year than I can remember in a long time, but that said the site never felt over crowded and I always had a hot shower when I wanted it! So what more can you want. The restaurants have really developed over the last few years and we had a great time in St Ives - booking however is essential on Friday and weekends if you don't want to eat late. Also look out for all the Surf schools that have opened up on the North and south coast - this is a prime location for surfing and my boys thoroughly enjoyed skipping between the Gwithian beach in the north (25 min drive) and Praa beach (3 min drive) - you cannot go wrong. Get your wet suits at the Old Forge in Mullion Village - best buy, good quality and exchange service for discount on new buys. Have a great holiday.
