THE GREAT: not being hassled to leave site by 12 or 1pm at the end of your stay - we didn't go till 5pm despite others turning up to pitch. Lots of us (3 adults, 10 kids, 1 dog) all being able to pitch as close together as we liked, No problem with visitors.
THE GOOD: Very cheap (13.50 per night for 4 people, caravan, awning and electric), Free hot showers, Very small, narrow wood to play in, Tiny lake to fish in.
THE BAD: Sloping site difficult (!) to pitch on, Showers roasting hot and you can't control the temperature (would be far too hot for tinies), Children not allowed to play anything anywhere except on the 'top' field where you can't see them (ours ranged from 8 to 14 in age so not too bad but would be very awkward with littlies wanting to play ball games, kites etc), No shop and the nearest ones are 5 miles in either direction (a real pain for milk and bread 1st thing), Fighter planes from several nearby airbases fly constantly day and night and this was really intrusive (to say the least), Wasps, wasps and more wasps (we have camped for 8 years and never known anything like it), Electric worked as long as only one thing plugged in - try the kettle and the toaster at the same time and you are done for, Quite a lot of rubbish (one of our boys found a blade!) laying about in the wood, One field had some 'dubious' looking units on it - although we didn't see anyone use them it was a bit off putting.
All in all we didn't have too much to complain about and the 'BAD' things listed aren't that bad really. A survey of all who went in our group drew the conclusion that nobody wants to go back! Would also say with kids you need to be on the 'top' field for peace of mind and freedom. BUT go and make your own minds up - you may well love it.

We stayed at this site for the first time on August bank holiday and we loved it! The pitches are already marked and they are very generous. The site was full and yet it didn't seem overly crowded or cramped. It was also very quiet considering that the site was full. Shower/toilet block was very clean at all times and the family who owned the site are really friendly. The thing we liked most about the site was that its so safe, with only one track for cars around the field we could let our 3 year old run about in relative safety. There's no play park or anything and there are no ball games allowed where the pitches are but we preferred this as it meant that it was quite peaceful. There is a huge field next door where the kids can play ball games and run around- our little one loved it. There are horses and a fishing lake which is in the adjacent field. We will definitely be visiting this site again.

Really nice site. Will certainly visit again. Owners very friendly and helpful. We didn't have to pay a deposit up front, which is a huge attraction for us. The site is basically a big field next to some woods, and a small toilet block. The woods are brilliant for the kids - and it's pretty enclosed too. Small toilet block but it was always reasonably clean and never busy (even on a bank holiday w/e!) Nicer loo roll than we have at home too! Freezer, washing machine and tumble drier were also welcome additions. If there was anything that could be improved, I'd say it was the decor in the toilet block, but it's a minor point really, and I've seen much worse! Very rural location - but 20-30 mins from Thetford Forest where there are loads of good walks to do in fantastic surroundings. High Lodge Forest Centre is great for the kids, especially the Go-Ape treetops thing. Will go again.

Only stayed 1 night as we were testing out our new tent but a lovely clean, basic campsite. Good free showers and clean toilets, washing machine and a freezer to use as you require. Owner very friendly and helpful. Only down side is the lack of shop as you are a car drive from anywhere else and being able to buy milk each morning is a must.

6 families have just spent a smashing weekend at the site - we pitched next to the little wood and barely saw the children (aged 3 - 14) all weekend. Plenty of hot water and very clean toilet blocks. It was quite busy and I would advise a large group such as our asking for the smaller field next to the shower block or on the other side of the woods as I think we may have been a bit noisy!Peter & Margaret are lovely and very accommodating. We all agreed we would definitely go back.

This was a lovely friendly site ideal for families pitches were of good size. We were sited in a smaller field next to the main camping field, it was quiet and and secluded but close to the amenities block.
It was Spring Bank Holiday and the site was very busy and wet which did result in queues for the showers but these were kept clean and well equiped with loo paper and soap.
There is a good local pub about 20 mins walk but a torch is essential for this as it is a walk across the field or along the road which is unlit and no pavement. There are also good pub within 15 mins drive they all seem to do good food as well at least the ones we sampled did and plenty of real ale!
There is loads to see and do within 15 miles of his site what ever your intrest. We did go up the only wind turbine in the world with a veiwing platform a bit hard on the legs, 305 steps, but an intresting experiance, the guide was friendly and very informative and by going there we found the indian take away that my husband was craving. Not quite so impressed by Grime Caves a hole in the ground and other humps in the ground you can walk about they are apparently the remains of prehistoric flint mines.
Definitely a site to be considered if you are visiting the area.

We stayed here for one night over the second May Bank holiday. We found the site spotless - even though there were a large number of people staying on the site. The toilets were always clean, and there was never any queue for the showers. The showers were very hot - which was welcomed, as the rain lashed down on the Sunday.
Anne the warden was very helpful - and let us pitch before taking our money from us. She gave us directions for the nearest pub, and where we could buy a gas lantern (as I had forgotten to pack ours) We stayed on the field away from the main road, and this was a nice sheltered part of the site. The pitches were level, and a decent size. The ground was not too stoney, but might suggest taking rock pegs in future.
There is adequate washing up facilities, along with washing machine and drier. There was a chest freezer for freezing ice blocks in. There was no charge for use of this facility.
The towns of Swaffham and Watton are both approx a 10 minute drive from the site, with both towns having supermarkets and the usual array of shops you would need. (Watton had 3 hardware stores, each with camping essentials in stock) We didnt get to see much of the surrounding area, as we came home due to the bad weather!
Prices were cheap (no surcharge was added for the bank holiday), and we will be returning in the summer holidays. All in all, a really lovely site - with great wardens! We would highly recommend a visit.

Stayed over the Easter period, owners very helpful, reasonably priced and toilet block spotless. Basically split into two fields, one for tourers and one for contractors which did find off putting. About 30 mins from Thetford High Lodge and nice pub in the village next door at Cressingham.

This is the second time we have visited this site and again it did not disappoint. Seven families on the top field where we could pitch six tents + one caravan and not worry about how much space we were taking. The wardens (Pete / Anne) were very friendly and made sure we were allocated enough space. The wooded area is a haven for the children (we had 15 children) and they were happy making camps and sliding down the slopes which they named Clay Hill and Buddha Hill. The site itself is very spacious and split in two separated by the wooded area. Shower block is very clean as is the washing up area. No play area ie: swings / slides but the woods more than make up for this. All in all a lovely site to get away, relax and do nothing. Nearest towns: Swaffham or Watton only 4 miles down the road. Costs are dependent on size of tent and number of occupants. Average costs are between GBP 6.00 - 12.00 per night. NB: The village of Ashill does not have a shop / post office.

This was our first foray into camping as a family. From the outset we were made to feel welcome by staff. The toilet/shower block was very clean and the water hot. There was no option to cool it down any unfortunately and having spent the day in the sun good have been done with it being slightly cooler. The site was clean, well kept and clearly very popular. Have no hesitation in recommending it and will be returning.
