Well, it is basic, really basic.

The sheep wander round your tent all the time. Washing facilities are the stream. Cold drinking water available. Toilet available, unlit, unheated, clean. If the sheep droppings don't put you off, the chickens may have a taste of your food too. Fantastic place for a basic camp, plenty of space.

Some pitches could be a little boggy by the type of grass growing.

Local facilities are trees, mountains, streams, Cuckoos, sheep, lambs, sheep, hens, cockerels, wood smoke and the odd RAF fly-past.

The X1 bus stops on request at the end of the road – at least it did for us. Climb a tree, paddle in the stream, cook on a wood fire – but bring your own as apparently, the Snowdonia National Park won’t allow you to collect wood from the forest. Lastly it has everything raw camping needs.

Don’t go there if you are not prepared, leave the space for those who are.

Excellent camp site, went there for a long weekend this month, the atmosphere and surroundings are simply stunning. Added bonus is they have no problem with BBQ's and Campfires, with Fire Pits for each pitch. The owner is a really helpful woman with no quibbles about giving directions.

Only problem we had was initially finding the place as is on a Bend in the road so blink and you miss the entrance.

Will be going back next year, one thing to note is that there are no lights in the Toilet block, so take a torch.

There is a town 3 miles away by road where you can get the usual supplies, and Campfire wood and Kindling is really cheap cost us £2 for the pair, The campsite is in protected woodland so you aren't allowed to cut any of the trees down so best going to the shops.

Be careful on the descent from the main road, is a very steep and winding road down into the valley, but worth it as much of the road traffic noise is blocked by the trees.

There is a RAF base near by with flights overhead through the week, but pure silence at the weekends.

Contrary to what the previous reviewer says, thankfully this site is very much open.

Tanaeldroch could best be summed up as the camp site that should have been in Cool Camping Wales but managed to slip through the net. Sitting in it's own hidden valley away from the noise of the road, it's an oasis little known to most people but well loved by the generations of families that come back year after year.

Think splendid isolation, a babbling river, rocks to clamber on, very little noise, lots of young families - it's almost like the modern world doesn't exist.

Of course it's certainly not for everyone. The facilities are very very basic - there's four good sized toilets and hand basins fed by cold water only, and that's your lot. No showers, no hot water. So it won't suit campers that want all mod cons. Likewise it's owners frown on noisy single sex groups and won't think twice about blacklisting those who break the rules. And don't even think about getting an electric hook-up!

But despite it's basic facilities it's still an absolute dream of a site if what you want is one of the most beautiful places to stay in the UK. It's isolated lcation away from the road means it's rarely busy. There'a a place to pitch your tent, a place to make your fire and total freedom for the kids to clamber on rocks and swim in the river. What more could you ask for?

The last time I tried to contact this site I was told by the tourist information office this site is now officially closed (unless it has been taken over by someone). By the by the site is wonderful and is situated alongside the river which rises very quickly with a major downpour of rain (we lost our beer which was in the river fridge) the site has no showers but does have toilets in a converted barn across the field. They allow campfires. There are regular water taps throughout the site but no electric. Most tent pitching is done quite close to the river as other parts of the large field can be quite boggy. The approach down to the site is very steep and quite tight in the turn but is manageable, There used to be a weight limit as there is a wooden bridge to get over to the site, I am not sure if this is still an issue. There are some lovely walks from the site and the Fairy Glen is worth a visit, also Betwys Y Coed is not a bad drive away, with its many shops and every camping or outdoor shop conceivable it is worth a visit. Lovely get away from it all camping.
