We have just returned from a 4 night stay on this superb site. Perfectly placed for exploring Teesdale, brilliant food in the adjacent pub should you wish to treat yourselves, which we did ! The staff in the pub are extremely friendly and helpful.
The 5 hard standing pitches are the biggest you will find, each with its own water tap. There is a very good loo and shower if you need it, solely for the campsite use.
Adult only site, which means it's nice and quiet even during the school holidays.
Our first visit, but we will be back ASAP.
All credit to the pub owners who have diversified and created this gem of a site.

A very well maintained site with huge pitches in an ideal location or exploring, the pub serves food which is ok but quite expensive. My only criticism would be that the electric shower was very unpredictable. At £20. 00 a night it's not cheap for a CL but you do get a large hard standing pitch with its own tap, the use of a shower and toilet ( one shower and one toilet unisex) the shower/ toilet was kept immaculate. Definitely a site we will use again, especially for the walking and cycling.

What a lovely site, just spent a long weekend there. Site itself is lovely, all hardstanding with water on each pitch. Toilet and shower facilities very modern and nice and clean. The Crown itself is lovely the meals are very nice and the staff are nice and friendly. I would recommend this CL to anyone, will definitely be going back.

Second visit to this excellent 5-van site. Huge, serviced pitches and spotless and modern shower facilities.
The food in the pub is excellent and the staff are great. They serve a range of real ales and there's a good variety of dishes to choose from.
It is a short drive to Barnard Castle, a lovely town which is well worth visiting. Also, Middleton in Teesdale is a couple of miles away, a small town with a range of shops and eateries.
Excellent walking from the site. Great reservoir walk and the Teesdale railway path passes by the site.

Spent a night at The Crown's CL and what a great site this is.
The five pitches are huge and each have electricity and personal water points. There is a single toilet and shower room which is luxuriously decorated.
The pub serves great food and ales and there's a warm welcome for all. The Blacksmiths Arms down the road is also a good pub if you fancy a change.
Great base for Teesdale, an excellent area in the north of England.

This recently refurbished CL is ideally located for access into the North Pennines. The site has five huge hardstandings, each with hook up & water supply. A dedicated shower and toilet is also available to site users with the entry code from the pub staff. The site is far enough away from the pub to not suffer from any noise pollution at all. CDP & waste water disposal is located at the entrance to the site along with a refuse container. However there was no recycling available which, in this day & age, is unusual.
Adjacent to the site is the Tees Railway Walk which heads east to Romaldkirk & west to Middleton-in-Teesdale. In fact there are numerous walks from Mickleton, and one circular 7 mile walk taking in Eggleston & Romaldkirk, passed 4 pubs!
The Crown is open all day [from 10 am] and has a superb menu available as well as three local real ales. With really friendly & enthusiastic staff & with the addition of WiFi access in the pub, what more do you need from a site!

Everything you could possibly need for a relaxing weekend. The pitches are large and fully serviced and have great views, but the icing on the cake is the Crown itself. The hospitality, food and ale are second to none, and an added bonus is the pub is dog friendly.
Close to High Force, a nice walk with great photo opportunity and Bowes Museum is a short drive away.
Will be returning soon.

Stayed on Easter Monday 2013, and enjoyed a very friendly welcome.
A first class (Caravan Club members only) CL, very generous pitch size, all hard-standing with mains & water. A single luxury shower & WC facility, comprehensive waste disposal.
The large pub interior is immaculate with informal seating and open fires. Three real ales on tap, and all in very good nick. A menu for most tastes, I would think, and 10% discount for CL guests.
We much enjoyed our battered haddock but, sadly, could not find space for one of the lovely puddings. Excellent service without being over-bearing.
We will definitely be back, an ideal base for exploring upper Teesdale.

A note to all the Rose and Crown is now renamed as The Crown by new owners who have refurbished the pub. Unfortunately it sounds like this year is a write off for camping, I called looking to book but the response was the facilities were not up to scratch and wont be available this year. Suggestion is that they are to improve things and open up again next year, hope that helps.
The ratings are based on the unknown ! However explanation was good so 10 out of 10 given for that. Its a lovely area so fingers crossed the camping facilities when completed are matching !

Visited on a bank holiday weekend ,the owners were really friendly. The site was really full but when talking to regulars they said it was the first time it had been that full. There is a park just next to the field the kids loved it. It is very basic, a field and a pub the ladies toilets are only open when the pub is open but the mens are 24 hrs. It only cost us £7 each and nothing for kids we are looking forward to our next visit.
