Just back from another 3 night stay at Mellow Farm. Just to update previous reviews, at 'Front Meadow' the site now has a nice new gent's toilet block (If you're reading this James, the new gents could do with a couple of shaving mirrors) and there's a nice new washing up point under cover, with hot and cold running water in both the gents and the washing up point ( I assume it's the same in the Ladies?).
The old gent's loo has been converted into another shower room so that's two separate shower rooms for Front Maeadow. Showers are now metered with a 50p slot machine which gives you about three and a half minutes of water, which is a bit tight timewise, but I suppose it encourages you to get on with the job in hand!
I'd recommend taking at least two fifty pences with you just in case you run out and are still soapy. There's another shower and loo by the farmers cottage opposite 'Huntingford Meadow, ' also on a 50p meter.
Still excellent value at £5. 00 per person per night. Campfires are still allowed, with a large firepit at the far end of Front Meadow and smaller, metal ringed, firepits dotted about in the other fields. 'Oxbow' which is an area within Front Meadow is ringed by trees and quite sheltered.
I've rated the site 9 out of 10 overall purely as it could do with another couple of showers and lacks the all important pub within easy walking distance. (9 out of 10 for child friendliness purely due to the presence of the river which means you need to keep an eye on littluns as the banks are quite steep. )
The large sloping field (The Hoppery) up by the farmer's cottage is, I understand, no longer used for camping, due to issues with the neighbours and the local council.

Stayed here for 2 weeks during the summer. Found it to be a very good campsite and fairly good value for money.
I stayed in the oxbow lake field and for most of the time was a lone camper- apart from on weekends when the whole campsite was packed full.
Its set in beautiful surroundings, there's plenty of really scenic walks and lots of outdoor activities to take part in- the children seemed to enjoy them although I never tried them out for myself.
The amenities were basic- but this was expected from looking at their website beforehand.
The showers weren't the cleanest I've ever been in but they work- however, you do feel a bit robbed at the short amount of time given for your money. I was left in a bit of a predicament when I ran out of 50p coins midway through washing my hair.
The toilets were kept amazing clean through my first week but into the second, the standards definitely slipped and there were 4 days where they clearly hadn't been checked as there was no toilet roll. At that point I took to using the males toilets- there were no men on the site and so these were impeccably clean and well stocked.
Overall, a good stay, I'd recommend to family groups.

Excellent!A beautiful location, open camp fires and a lovely stream running through.
As mentioned before, the facilities are basic.
One toilet per gender and one shower. I also couldn't find anywhere to wash up, but who cares!
I'll definitely go back.
Frensham great lake is only a couple of miles away with a lovely beach. Owner is a nice guy too.

Gorgeous location, a good distance from main roads, towns and shops and the nearest pub. Well a 20 minute walk anyway :-)
The field we were staying on was well kept, we chose to camp higher up the field on a slight slope, but there was plenty of room on the flat.
We were there on a fairly quiet weekend and do think that things could get a tad more busy but still great.
Fire rings are placed around the field a good distance apart and logs are available for £5 for a large sack, think twice the size of sacks you can buy from garages and supermarkets! Take kindling with you however.
The facilities are basic but clean, 4 port-a-loos and a 'proper' loo which was also the shower room, with free power shower.
No electric hook ups, waste water disposal(except for the loos), it is simply a luxury field.
The owners were very nice and laid back, they didn't come to collect peoples money until the evening of the second day.
Criticisms, well none, the reviews before ours say it all, we got what we expected and wanted.
We are going to go back again and again and again.
Hope you enjoy as much as we did :-)

Went to Mellow Farm with 6 chaps from work. We only stayed one night but wished we'd stayed more. Its a basic site but they are all very friendly, there's heaps of wood available for a fiver a sack (big sack!)and we had loads of space, but then it was March :)
There's a few loo's and a shower and that's about it apart from the farm animals.
If you like it basic and quiet this is spot on!

Me and my two friends enjoyed two extremely enjoyable visits to Mellow farm.
Firstly we stayed 3 nights in August 2007 in the front meadow which is a lovely field. We were situated right next to the river which was great and there were only a couple of other tents near by so was nice and quiet. Due to us being 16 at the time we didn't have a car so going anywhere far was not an option. We did however have a nice time going on walks, spending time in the river and making friends with other campers! The surrounding area is beautiful with lovely horses and cows. We enjoyed it so much that we came back in 2008.
In 2008 we stayed in Hoppery. We think. It was a field with chickens and turkeys in a large pen and also pigs which was great as we are all animal lovers! On one afternoon the piglets escaped which was pretty funny as suddenly 8 pigs came running through our field!
The toilets and shower were what you would expect for a small campsite and there is plenty of space to choose where to pitch. We had a great time making friends with other campers and playing rounders in a big group in the field.
We bought wood for £5 for a large sack which lasted all 4 nights and duck eggs were reasonably priced too. And yummy :P
We preferred the look of the front meadow as it was next to the river etc however also loved the hoppery field because of the animals etc. We could also use the river still by accessing it near to the bridge and also from another field, where you can sit in or by the river which is lovely, although you can be seen by people crossing the bridge, so beware of those little scouts!
Overall on both occasions we loved our stay and will be returning in the future. Very friendly owners and we were very grateful that we were allowed to camp there without adults as we were under 18. Not many places take under 18's so lucky to find this one. We arn't all bad!

This is a basic campsite and should be considered if you like to be away from facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed this place. The pitches are unmarked and you just feel free to do what you want here. The stream is fantastic for those who enjoy nature.
There are facilities here, which include a single shower and two toilets which are temporary.
We were left alone to enjoy the evenings listening to music and sitting around a good old camp fire. We will definitely return here again.

Initially finding the campsite was a bit challenging. Whilst there were signs for Mellow Farm, their land covers a huge area with no campsite reception or signage. I flagged down a man in a tractor who turned out to be the owner and he pointed us in the right direction. Once pitched, we were disappointed to find there were 4 portaloos and one small shed type room with a toilet and single shower (wet room style). This was muddy the whole weekend, rarely had toilet paper and people could look in the window (opaque admittedly) to see you on the loo - a bit disconcerting - but far better smelling than the portaloos which weren't nice. There are no washing up facilities either but that's easily overcome. On the plus side, the place is very 'Mellow'. Campfires are permitted and you can buy bags of chopped logs, which is great. It's unusual to find a campsite that allows fires these days. The lower field is only rented out to large groups, who get a purpose built toilet block (2 loos for men & 2 for women) but still share just one shower (which appeared to be much cleaner). We didn't use any of the recreation facilities but I would add that everything is very spaced out and not at all obvious. That all said though, I would go back purely for the laid back atmosphere, great countryside and campfires. I'd recommend taking wet wipes and loo roll though!

A nice, basic, campsite split up into two fields, we were in the smaller of the two as the main field appeared to have been taken over by a birthday party. One shower and toilet combined as well as a few portaloos were in our field, not luxury but they served their purpose. The local countrywide is lovely, hardly anyone else around and a very quiet site in general, saw a fox and a kingfisher! We took advantage of the archery but the 'canoes' are actually kayaks and we didn't try them, or the assault course, out. Allowed to pitch tents anywhere and had campfires wherever you choose and there was lots of left over wood scattered over the site. We used this and collected more from the nearby woods but were still charged £5 for wood which we were rather annoyed about, it was a shame as it marred an otherwise good weekend.
