We always stay here en route to Scotland, and we are never disappointed - it's the start of the holiday. We arrived when the warden was on lunch but a note in the window told us where to pitch - not a problem. The facilities are always spotless & the showers lovely and hot - run the water for a little before stepping in. We usually arrive late at night but this time managed to arrive in the afternoon which gave us time to go for a walk - don't be fooled into thinking 'why would I go for a walk by the M6?' - you will miss a treat. Head towards the hotel & then head left towards the hills across the railway bridge - stunning scenery, a round walk is possible with the right map. A peaceful nights sleep & up in the morning - lovely food to be had in the Services restaurant, and stock up the fridge in the farm shop - one of the best farm shops in the UK, I promise! Don't panic if you've eaten everything while on holiday, you can re-stock as you head southbound - there is a farm shop there too! Although I can't comment on child friendliness, as we don't travel with one, everyone that arrived seemed to be so excited that there was no need for a playground.

This site is just so handy if you want a stop over on the M6, having said that there is no reason you couldn't stay longer, but as you're in the Lakes I would go for a site with more of a view. The site is in the bottom of a tree lined bowl, this keeps the noise of the motorway down and works well. There are some excellent pitches for one nighters with your own elec. Water and waste. Vouchers for a discount in the cafe, shop and hotel. Good dog walk around the rim of the bowl. Helpful and friendly staff.

Relatively good for a stopover on the way to Scotland, but we stayed for 2 days, which was too long. It's right next to the motorway, which is really handy, and you can't hear the noise. The farm shop was a real bonus, and well stocked and also had a really good takeaway. The dog walk was basic, but if you have time, walk past the hotel, turn left, and there are some lovely public footpaths which take you into the countryside. The campsite is made of hardstanding, so there's not much to look at. Toilets were clean, but there aren't enough showers if they are fully booked. The chemical disposal is up some stairs, so not handy if you use your wastemaster to carry your cartridge. All in all, we would definitely stay again, as it was easy access, easy back onto the motorway, and quiet enough for a restful stopover.

Stopped here on our way up to Scotland. Had a welcoming arrival and given discount vouchers to use at the nearby services, which you can see why they have won awards. Lovely shop and choice of restaurant or take away pies/chips, we used the take away as only a short walk back to the site (with stunning views). I thought the pie and portion of chips were a bit on the small side but they were very filling. The site itself was very quiet, you wouldn't know you were off the motorway but would agree with those that say it's like being in a car park, it does give that impression on the part we were on. The toilet block was clean and loved the shower. Not too far from water, bins and chemical point from our pitch. Lovely dog walk again with beautiful views. Would definitely stay here again

It's the bizarre location that makes it so special - well that & the fab farm shop!
If we're heading to Scotland, Tebay comes up at just the time when we're ready for a warm welcome and a piping hot shower. If you're arriving late. Pitch up & settle up in the morning. The campsite is all hardstanding, surrounded by trees so very little noise from the motorway. A short walk from the site is the Westmoreland Services offering spectacular views across the moors/fells and then there are the services themselves - completely unlike any that you may have been to - more like a swish hotel. Delicious locally sourced breakfast, cereal bar, fresh juice, delicious coffee & good service. And finally, take your shopping bag & stock up in the farm shop - fresh local food - try the Cumberland sausages, local foodie gifts.
No rating for Child friendliness as we didn't have any with us.
I cannot rate Tebay highly enough, we only stay for the night when we are en route - it's the start of our holiday, but people do stay for their holiday & explore the area.

We have seasonal pitches on this site, so have listed our unit as static though the vans are tourers, seasonally pitched.
The site has had it ups and downs over the last few yesrs but we're really pleased that things are looking up with improved 'community spirit' for the seasonals and an increased number of tourers staying on site. The new staffing arrangements are a vast improvement on last year and there has been investment in the site surroundings which has improved the landscaping etc.
This has always been a very convenient site for stop overs and longer stays as it's a great base for touring- it's why we've stayed on a seasonal pitch for the last 8 years! (sounds odd but it is straight off the motorway, so fantastic access, little motorway noise due to the lower level of the site and a really rural feel despite the proximity of the motorway. Couple this with the use of the 'best services in England' on the doorstep and perhaps it's understandable)
The site has 80 pitches in all- 40+ seasonal, 7 static and the rest touring. It is all hard standing gravel so no grass other than on the bankings and is surrounded by trees. It can look drab on dull days as a result and there are some reviews commenting on the 'car park' appearance of the touring pitches. The hardstanding pitches at least means you never get bogged in! Awnings are fine with hard ground pegs and a strong hammer.
There is a motorhome waste/sewerage emptying grid only but it's not a caravan club style MH service point and access isn't great if you've a large A class /coach style motorhome though is adequate for most others.
The toilet block is slightly dated but immaculately clean with showers having a rather strange push button (outside the shower) arrangement which gives constant hot water. Serviceable but not terribly green.
Electric hook ups are 16amp and there are plenty of taps for tourers, some on pitches which may also have grey waste drainage if they have previously been used as seasonal pitches but the rest of the water points/grey waste points and bins are close to the touring pitching areas.
There are 2 chemical disposal points.
There is a dog walk accessed by a path near the office and steps from the far end of the site which can get a bit boggy in wet weather but has great views of the Howgills and north toward Shap.
Kids facilities are limited. There is a grassed area at the end of the dog walk with small goal posts but this is on a bit of a slope. There's a good play area on the southbound services, which is a bit of a walk but plenty of entertainment at the northbound services duck pond if they're into feeding ducks. Overall it's not the best site for kiddies but the ones who are on seasonal pitches seem happy enough to make their own entertainment.
TV reception is patchy depending on pitch-we're fine with our satellite dish but I've seen touring motorhomes struggling with their satellite reception in certain areas. A big aerial usually will get digital terrestrial TV in most pitches but the on board ones are fairly useless.
The shop at the services stocks a fantastic range of local products including a butchers as well as everything else you find at a normal service station( and you get a discount when staying on site) The company also own the hotel on the same location which serves bar meals and drink and has a restaurant for more formal dining. Can't comment on this as we've not used the hotel- prefer to BBQ or eat in and relax!
The situation is so convenient for Northern Lakes, Kendal and also Yorkshire Dales, Scottish Borders and Western Lakes. An ideal base in our opinion.
I think the touring price is at the upper end of what I would expect to pay (I've a motorhome too so am familiar with current pricing on other sites) but there are deals for longer stays or returning customers. Seasonal pitches are reasonably competitive but some sites have more facilities and perhaps more manicured surroundings. However we're happy with the convenient location, easy access, quiet site despite the location and the friendly ambience so plan to stay for the immediate future.

I can see why this site gets great reviews, and it was fine for us. The facilities were clean and the motorway services were fantastic. It has a nice quiet friendly feel. I think it is very handy for breaking a long journey, but does not inspire us to go back or stay longer. I can see many people do though, as it obviously has plenty of long-stay vans, so this is just our opinion. We prefer a site with better views rather than just looking at other vans - although the banks certainly did the job of blocking out the traffic noise. The bird feeders were a lovely touch that certainly helped soften it up. I had read reviews saying that a children's play area would be good, and I thought 'thank goodness it doesn't have one' as I prefer kids playing with nature and imagination and not congregating in noisy groups; but with just an expanse of hardcore (and the goal posts being a long walk away), a play area would actually have been welcome. The system for turning the showers on and off is bizarre and cold/environmentally unfriendly. Pleasant staff.

Stopped off overnight here on the way north. Wardens were out painting fences when we arrived, appeared to be sprucing the place up a bit (long overdue)! Very helpful and friendly to everyone. Facillities are a bit basic but kept very clean. Price was reasonable and would recommend this site to anyone travelling north or south on the M6. A peaceful night's sleep was had despite being next to said motorway, noise was not a problem. It's also a good location for walkers to pitch up and explore the Lakes, with several local walks starting from the site.

Great to visit this site again this year and nice to see Elaine was still there welcoming us back. Lovely site set in trees and just so handy where it is just off the motorway services. Mr & Mrs Duck are still in residence and the toilet/shower block was as clean as last year. Even though the leaves weren't on the trees yet we still were not bothered with motorway noise.

Site is an ideal stop over when travelling North or South very easy to find just drive into Tebay
Services either northbound straight in or southbound follow signs back over motorway bridge to site. Very pleasant reception, shown to more than ample hard standing pitch among the trees.
Toilet and showers very good, nice dog walking area and site very quite. Hotel is a 5 minute walk where you can purchase drinks and a meal at very reasonable prices you also receive discount vouchers which can be used in the hotel or service area when you arrive on site.
Would certainly return.
