Nice enough site, with pleasant surroundings. But lack of washing facilities becomes a real handicap after a day or so.
No hot water for dishes/pans etc, and nowhere to wash hands after toilet or brush teeth apart from standpipe tap, and that means leaving suds / toothpaste on the grass as there is no drain just a soakaway into the grass.
Shower is rather faint-hearted too - faint spray and intermittent heat.
Not a site I would stay at for more than a night, and certainly not with a family.

Very basic campsite - 2 toilets + 1 electric shower but no sinks either for brushing teeth or washing up dishes. Noise has to be kept to an absolute minimum which is fine and yet unrealistic given that on arrival on Fri night there were only 10 tents / campers but on our return after a whole day canoeing on Sat night we found 3 school parties of Duke of Edinburgh students of at least 30 students booked in - way too many for the facilities. To give them their due, they were impeccably behaved. Shame as it was a beautiful spot and cheap at only £5 ppn + £3 for kids.

A brief, inaugural trip to this campsite in our new (to us) caravan during the epic rains of July 2007! James the owner was cheery, friendly and helpful. 3 other sets of campers (all heroically bravely in tents!) also there for the week-end. No hook-ups. Nice dogs allowed! Cost £19 for the 5 of us for one night. Toilet block basic but adequate, accessed through beautifully kept gardens of house and B&B. James recommended the local pub at Newland, 10 mins walk away, The Ostrich. This was fantastic and we have been boring everyone to death about the fab pub we found! Great food, beer and a welcome for all - including children and dogs. Beautiful village church opposite, known as Cathedral of the Forest. We also explored Monmouth in the rain on Saturday - nice old fashioned High Street + Waitrose! A nice, quiet campsite for our week-end away.

Spent our first camping weekend at the site and had a great time. Really friendly and helpful owner and a great sense of freedom - pitch anywhere around the edge of the field and only two site rules - about taking rubbish home and keeping noise down especially after 11pm. The facilities are basic but are adequate at least for a weekend and the site was clean tidy and not too busy. No drainage problems apparent on site despite 2 days of heavy rain. Didn't manage to do much walking due to the weather but there are some attractions nearby, ie, Clearwell Caves, Perry Grove Steam Railway and the towns of Coleford and Monmouth and the Ostrich pub a short walk away in the village. I would agree that this is the kind of place that's perfect for a weekend break in the summer, provided you like basic camping and are happy making your own entertainment, but maybe a bit too quiet and basic for a longer stay. It may be a bit basic for some but for a weekend adventure it was great. (despite the weather!) Will return soon, hopefully with a new tent and some better weather!

A very good site if self reliant, e.g. Caravan, as facilities are very basic with one toilet, no wash basin and a rather grubby shower which we couldn't bring ourselves to brave so don't know how good it actually was. The field itself was very well groomed, stone free and in a lovely setting. Probably wouldn't use this site again as we are not fans of brushing our teeth and washing using a cup and stand pipe of water in the middle of a field.

This is a beautiful, basic site, ideal for fans of old style camping (no roadways, hard standing, streetlights, ...).
There is plenty of level or slightly sloping grass, no unsightly yellow patches, so the site probably gets little use. It cost us £4 per person.
When we camped there in February the ground had been badly disturbed by wild boar but the owner has obviously taken considerable trouble to repair this.
This weekend we shared the field with one other tent, two camper vans and several Duke of Edinburgh's Award groups. The site owner, unprompted, went over and quieted them at 11:00 (there were school staff on the site who did not support him)
Facilities are very limited: two toilets and one shower, no hand basins or wash-up.
Campers are no longer welcome in the woodland due to damage and "insurance" issues.
The Ostrich, half a mile away in Newland, serves excellent food and ales.

Lovely site, open all year. Friendly farmer, ok facilites, nice view, good local pubs. He also has b&b if your tent leaks. When trying to find it, drive down hill, look for small white sign on left at bottom, easily missed. Drive to river, I think it was called Redbrook or something like that.

Very nice place. I found this to be more of a short stay visit rather than a long stay. Facillities were good. Not much for the children to do but they still managed to entertain themself in a little wood on site. Excellant for short walks. A little drive to visiting near by historical land marks. Very pleasant owners always making sure you are ok. Generally a nice quiet place to stay.
