Just returned from a wonderful Easter Weekend at this lovely, quaint site!

On arrival we were greeted by the lady owner who led us to our pitch (with electricity) The pitch was very spacious and we were able to leave our car near.

At the bargain price of £16 a night, we couldn't believe our luck! The site is clean and tidy. Yes it is minimal, as in there is no shop, bar etc but, it is perfect for a little get away!

The showers and toilets are clean and well maintained. The showers are not the most powerful or spacious, but, are adequate for a short stay! You have to pay £1 a time to use the shower (as this is not included in the price) but, the pound lasted adequate time. We never queued for the shower nor did we wait to use the washing facilities!

The location is close to Donington Park Race Track and East Midlands Airport, and yes you can hear the cars and planes, but, the noise is minimal and not constant. If anything the noise of the birds was more prominent.

Castle Donington is the nearest place to the campsite and is 1.5 miles walk from the site. Castle Donington is very, very small with a few restaurants. There were also a few pubs near but we did not use them.

If you are looking for abundance of amenities within walking distance then this site may not be for you. However, if you are quite happy to drive then it is perfect.

Whilst there we visited Attenborough, which is a beautiful nature reserve with a choice of different walks to do. We also visited our friends in Uttoxeter for the evening and it only took 30 mins!

All in all we were highly satisfied with this site and would readily visit again!

Myself and friends stopped here for the Download Festival this June. The site is in very pleasant surroundings and is fairly quite given it's proximity to the Airport.

We were charged £15 per person, per night and there was five of us for one night and four for a further two nights in a 5 berth tent. We immediately fell fowl of a minimum stay requirement of 3 nights and were duly charged £225 for 3 nights, but hey, it was Download weekend. We paid and were issued wristbands to allow access on and off the site as well as a sheet with the campsite rules (pretty standard stuff in them and not unreasonable).

The grounds look pretty nice, are well maintained and are in very pleasant surroundings. There looks to be greater provision for tent users but there are some motorhome pitches (some hardstanding) and some with electric hook-up.

There are the usual facilities, drinking water tap, elsan point, an utility area for washing up (but no washing machines), a vanity area for the ladies and a communal lounge with seating and a television.

The toilet blocks were inadequate for the numbers they had on the site that weekend. There are two showers for the men and two for the women and were constantly in demand. The showers are a £1 for between 5 and 10 minutes, which was enough time I thought but why should you pay for them when you've just shelled out £225 for three nights?

The toilets weren't too bad, I've seen far worse but there was damaged cubical door locks rendering them unusable if you value your privacy, again, causing problems at peak times. I read in a previous review a remark about water pressure, I again noticed at peak times changing shower water temperatures and flows as people flushed toilets.

I found most of the staff to be friendly and receptive, but I did have a problem at one point (not directly campsite related). I found the person I was telling my problem to quite surly, rude and disinterested. When I pressed on they got very defensive to say the complaint was not levied against the campsite, but a taxi firm they'd teamed up with to provide a shuttle service to Donington Park (who'd stood us up).

There is also a campsite shop, but it only sold soft drinks, ice-creams, wellies and potted plants. Don't expect to get provisions like milk, cereals, etc for breakfast. Castle Donington is 1. 75 miles away and there is a SPAR and a Co-op there.

In summary, I would stay there again but felt they need to make some minor improvements for it to be value for money.

Lovely, quiet campsite. 2 minute drive from Castle Donnington. Everywhere was spotless with hot showers. Lovely walk through the little woods down to the Trent.

Ideally situated and travelled 5 mins to Trent Lock and Sawley.

Thank you for a lovely stay! We paid £17.50 per night with electric hook up over Easter - Bargain.

We have just got back from kingsmill camp site, and have to say this is a great little place to get away, I've noticed on other reviews that they used to allow children. Well I'm pleased to say this is now a adult only site and that's what we was looking for.

As a new couple ( 7 months ) this was our first camping trip, and our new tent.

When we arrived we was left to pitch up as it was gone 6pm and the owner had rang to say she wouldn't be there, which was fine with us and good of her to let us no.

Got a great pitch and set about our task ( in the rain )

The next morning we went to meet the owner, and pay up. She was very nice and told us about the area.

We had a great stay ( 4 nights ) and will go back.

Toilets and showers a bit dated but have had a lick of paint so look ok. The ladies was infested with ladybirds and I mean a lot, but that's nature. Showers £1 was enough for me and hot.

Over all a nice cosy site and will be going back.

We stayed here for the bank holiday weekend as we were attending a race meeting at Donington Park. We cycled from the site to the circuit; it wasn't a particularly long way but it was quite hilly.
The pitches onsite were quite small and the units were crammed in. According to the site rules issued to us on arrival ball games were not permitted when the site was full (as there is not space) but this rule was disregarded during our stay.
The showers were £1 and we found it was best to avoid the morning rush as the water ran scorching hot then freezing cold - but the temperature was much more consistent in the evenings.

Owner's comments:

In relation to comments about ball games, they are permitted just not against the walls, as there are glasshouses on the other side for the garden centre next door.

All caravan pitch sizes are to the local council guidelines and are not crammed in. When large groups are staying in a caravan on race days then the pitches will seem full. On busy race days we do tell people before they booked that the park will be busier than normal.

Regards to the showers, there has been a water pressure issue in the past on busy weekends when up to 350 people have been camping, however since the bank holiday when this review was written, I have installed a secondary water main to cure the problem which it has done.

Site surroundings pleasant. However this site is not really worth the money. They squeezed two tents in between two caravans. The toilet facilities are inadequate, three toilets, two sinks and two showers in each the ladies and gents for 100 units. No hot water in the sinks or dishwashing after 9am in the morning due to the demand. £1 for a shower after paying £15. 00 a night for a small tent is taking advantage and neither the sinks in the dishwashing area or toilets were clean. Overall overpriced for the facilities.

We booked in for a long weekend overall a really nice stay. The site was clean and tidy well worth a stay. The only downside was that showers are a bit quick for a pound! Castle Donnington is only 5 mins down the road with a large co op.

Can be a little bit noisy with aeroplanes flying over and you can also hear the race track as well but not enough to cause any problems.

The site overall is flat and level on all areas, with several hard standings available when you come into the site.

There is a small club room available for use, we didn't use this but ideal for kids on wet days.

Overall a pleasant stay and I would recommend a visit if your in the area!

We went to Kings Mill on August Bank Holiday from Friday to Monday. It was our first camping trip as a family of four with our new tent and we booked last minute due to the one we were supposed to go to being flooded. The owner was very helpful and obliging both on the phone and in person when we arrived. We were shown to our pitch, as was everyone which was nice, and she had saved us a spot for our large tent.
We were right by the toilet block which on the first night seemed a great location but on Saturday the site got extremely busy and we were right in the path of those walking to and from the recreation room after one too many so it didn't seem so appealing then with folks tripping over the guy lines etc.
The site was very clean as were the toilets and laundry room and there is a small play area for the kids which they really enjoyed, along with a tv room which has plenty of seating and a table football game and in the back there's a pool table and games machine. There's also the facility to freeze ice packs which came in handy.
Showers were a pound and it was tricky getting the right temperature so used more coins than would have liked. There is a wood running up the side of the site which we went in to explore and the kids really enjoyed that.
Nearby is Donington Park and you can hear the cars/ bikes racing but it's not distracting and they hold a fab market on the Sunday that we visited which seems very popular. The site is very close to East Midlands airport so you have planes taking off directly above you which we found fascinating but some may dislike as it can prove quite noisy but I think you get used to it.
There's a shop a minute or two drive away stocking groceries etc and plenty pubs nearby for food including the nearby Sawley Marina.
On the whole we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and even the kids said they'd like to go back there so I am sure we'll visit again but not on a bank holiday, the only part to spoil it for us were the idiots on site who don't respect others and let their kids run wild after dark. I think the wardens / owners could have done more to control that but they were great people who would have done anything for you and they were constantly cleaning so I can't complain. Will definitely visit again.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a 2 night weekend stay.

The site was very easy to find and there was adequate room to pitch the tent. The ground was very well maintained considering the amount of rain the UK has had recently!

The shower block was very clean and I also noted this was cleaned regularly throughout the weekend. The showers are £1 for five minutes and were very powerful.

I noticed the owner walking round the site at random times of the day checking the site and tents which made us feel a lot more secure about leaving stuff in the tent.

Nice little area for ladies to make themselves beautiful and a building with pool table soft seats for when you fed up of the folding camp chairs!

Castle donnington has a few pubs, takeaways and nice little walks. We took the bikes and it was a nice ride about. A bit hilly in places but good. We fixed the bikes to a fence near the shower block.

Really good value and a excellent little spot which is central to Leicester, notts and derby. Loads to do and the owner to very knowledgeable about the area.

Would defo recommend this site and would visit again.

We have just returned from our first camping trip at the Kingsmill Caravan and campsite. My husband and our two children aged 4 and 11 had a wonderful time. The toilet and shower block was clean and adequate.
The actual campsite was very busy, and not much room between tents, I think the only downside was the site was very busy and this was partly because it was the Bank Holiday Weekend. We went on some lovely walks through the Countryside, and down by the river.
The Children enjoyed going into the Woods for an adventure, and playing hiding seek. Overall we had an enjoyable stay, and the site was clean and the owners was friendly and pleasant, just as were the other campers.
