My boyfriend and I stayed at Kings Mill for the download festival'08. It had everything we were looking for:
Easy going - as everyone that weekend is there for the festival the owners are happy for people to return late at night when the music is over, they just ask that you respect others by keeping the noise down.
Location - we walked the 50mins to Donington park at an easy pace and on other days took the car half way then walked 20mins from Donington Castle. A local taxi has a link with the campsite so if you are a group its cheap but I can't comment as I didn't use it, seemed always busy though.
Showers - only £1 (if your slow £2) and cleaned regularly by owners, especially in busy times so if your a slow riser they'll still be nice.
Spacious - It never felt crowded and you can park your car next to your tent, so no having to carry everything for miles!
Security - Family Run campsite, so they have a friendly reception at the front and only one way in so felt very secure.
My only advice is to check the price as the pricing system wasn't 100% clear and we ended up paying more than we expected. So get a quote.
Overall very good experience and we shall be using the site again.

I recently stayed at Kings Mills and had a very enjoyable stay. The weather was fantastic making the outdoor scenery very picturesque especially as we were on a site not far from the river where we had a lovely walk.
The toilet shower blocks were clean and adequate. It was £1 for 5 minutes in a hot shower.
It was a 2 minute drive to the centre of Donington where there were several nice pubs and some good places to eat.
I found the staff friendly and helpful with regards to things to do in the local area and as such had a good trip to Donington Sunday Market.
I will definitely be visiting this site again soon.

Was very pleasantly surprised when I got there.
We pitched our tent at the bottom by the river. Great little spot. Was told it was the last pitch on the phone. I wasn't convinced because there were plenty left when we were there. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The toilet block was very clean and freshly painted. The facilities were as described and there was enough to do for adults and children alike.
I would definitely return. Cheap and cheerful. I'd recommend it for campers.

This site is lovely. very peaceful & a river at the bottom. The site owners made us welcome when we arrived, took payment & told us they have no set time that we had to vacate the site for. The toilets were very clean. There is a games room & small play area for the kids, which they loved. They have hard standings as well as the field for caravans. Well worth another visit

We visited this site for a quick getaway to test the new tent and to introduce friends to the joys of camping! Beautiful site with small play area in centre which allowed us to keep an eye on the kids. We booked in advance and the warden was very friendly and helpful on arrival and made sure we knew where everything was. The toilet and shower block were very clean and adequate, there was also a games room with pool table, table football and TV. About 5 mins drive to Castle Donnington which has plenty of shops; close to Donnington Park and East Mids airport. We will definitely go back again in better weather!

What a gem of a site.
We stayed here on Bank Holiday weekend at the beginning of May and booked at the last minute. When we phoned to book we were told that we had the last EHU but it would be given to us as they allocate on a first come first served basis regardless of whether we were in a tent or caravan.
On arrival there were no wardens about, however our name was on a little post on the pitch so we knew exactly where to go. Excellent idea and meant that rather than having to wait around to be booked in we could set up straight away. The pitch we had was perfect for us. Very flat and up against a large hedge, great protection from any winds.
The site owner arrived on Saturday morning to welcome us and take payment. She had gathered together some leaflets for us of places of interest. Which was a really nice touch.
The toilets (3 ladies, 2 gents) although not the most modern of buildings, were very clean and well stocked with loo rolls and hand towels. The ladies shower is separate from the loos, but the gents are in together. Even though there was only one shower in each, I never had to queue. The washing up area is in a little ‘lounge / information room’ great if you are washing up if the weather is not so good. And packed with leaflets. There are also electric sockets and a mirror in there.
There is a brand new games / TV room, with a pool table and table football. We didn’t venture in there but saw plenty of people using it.
Castle Donington has plenty of shops and eateries. There is a Go Outdoors on the way to Loughborough for any bits and pieces you may have forgotten. Donington Park is moments away and there is a little noise on race days, but it didn’t spoil our stay. There is also a little noise from the airport, but the views of the planes taking off and landing was spectacular.
Lovely site, very relaxed and we would definitely go back again.

Just got back form this site, a little gem of a site, the wardens where very friendly and worked none stop the five nights we where there to keep the place clean and tidy as the campsite was full for the Download festival. I thought they might not like it being full of rockers but they where great and made every body feel welcome.
There is a new building which has a pool table, and a social area, where they served cold beer ( just for the festival ) and had the England football on, they also did a bbq outsite.
There is also an older building where there is a small lounge area with sofa's and chairs, 2 electric sockets, people where charging there phones, and a small sink and drainer for washing up, theres only the one though.
In this building is also the shower, theres only one but its a good size with plenty of room for your clothes and to get changed and its a domestic type one where you can adjust the tempreature, it runs of a token which is a pound and you get of the warden. For the festival they also got 2 portacabin showers as well but I didn't use them., the toilet are next door and theres 3 in the ladies and a small cubical for washing with a sink, also 2 sinks in the main area, there was always toilet paper in the loes, soap at the sink, and paper towels for wiping your hands which was no mean feet as the site was full!
Even though the site was full they didn't cram you in and you could easily drive your car out, there was a bit of aircraft noise as the airport isn't far away but it didn't bother us.
The site is very near the festival as the crow flys but you have to go 1and a half miles to the village down a country lane then turn right at the lights up the hill then right again to the festival so its about 3 miles to get there, quiet a lot of people walked but the campsite also arranged a 7 seater taxi that did shuttle trips to the festival and it was £2.60 per person.
I would deffinatly use this site again as they wardens couldn't have done any more to make the weekend a success they did a really good job.
It would also be a good site to stay on at other times when it would be very quiet and only about a 15 min drive from the M1 so good for stop overs.
They also tell people if there are any big festivals when they phone to book so you wouldn't find your self surrounded by rockers or bikers if thats not your thing.
