Stayed here for 11 nights. Site is well maintained. The site is British owned and all the staff are British. The site facilities are unisex but this didn't seem to cause any problems. The pitches are a good size with water either on the pitch or near by all with electric hook up.

The reception sells fresh bread and eggs daily, and there is a co-op in Airvault and a Supermarche about 5 minutes drive away.

The site has a bar which is open daily, and a bistro open Saturday to Wednesday. Also quiz nights and functions including guided walks are organised on a regular basis.

For people with dogs there is a country park within 5 mins walking distance where the dogs can run freely. Also the site has a small car for hire, which is handy if you are their in a motor home.

English owner site and mostly English campers. Site is situated within walking distance of the town, pitches are mostly level to slightly sloping. There is a marquee style restaurant on site with a man sat at an organ playing 70's music while people eat. The night we stayed was fish and chips on the menu so we gave it a miss, we didn't come all that way for english food.

Site very well kept, although the facilities were very busy even with a 75% full site. There is good dog walking to be had down the lane and into some fields or along the river, river is very deep and fast flowing.

The weather had been poor up to the day we had arrived hence the owners took the opportunity to cut the grass, all day long!.

We stayed here for one night on the way back from the south of France. The site was very clean and the owners were very welcoming.

As it is owned by an English couple the majority of clients are English. You can get fresh bread etc delivered which you can collect in the morning.

There is a small bistro on site which offers a set meal. We were there for traditional fish and chips, which weren’t what we wanted in the middle of France, but were very tasty. The pitch was large and pleasant and the scenery around was lovely.

There were several people who leave their caravans there for the year. As it is within easy distance of the ferries I can see why

Stayed here for 2 weeks in august with my wife and 15 year old son along with friends and their 3 children, very nice site on arrival and very friendly greeting in reception, no messing about trying to book you in they just took our name and let us go to our pitch to set up and relax and invited us to bar the bar that evening.

Pitches spacious enough for our car caravan and awning with annex and loads of room left over, grass a bit threadbare but it was and had been very hot, rock pegs a must for the awning and even they was bending.

Plenty of water points and all waste water can be poured around all the trees on your pitch, roadways aroung site was all gravel, toilets kept very clean and tidy they are unisex but does not bother us, showers clean and very warm, swimming pool more than big enough for size of site kids loved it.

Not to much to do for older children only table tennis, boules pitch, television in the bar which they are welcome, bar small but nice, didn't use much as can get expensive.

Airvault town 10-15 minute walk very old and quaint but not much there at all, large supermarket Intermarche on outskirt of town 5 mins in car or 20 min walk, everything you need can be got from there including petrol station.

Fishing in river just below site 5 minute walk away, watersports and manmade beach 15 min drive away which was good day out.

All in all had a relaxing holiday weather was over 90 degress most of holiday, all staff on site english and very helpful and friendly, nearly all pitches are english tourist, would use again on route further south as don't normally stop on same site twice.

If you want a quiet relaxing holiday this is the site for you, if you want lively towns and hustle and bustle stay clear.

Just spent two weeks on this well run campsite. We can't fault the friendliness and cleanliness of this site. On our arrival we had problems with the electricity in our caravan and were very grateful for all the help we received to rectify the problem. The team all work very hard at maintaining the site and making everyone feel very welcome. We will be returning to this site. Unisex facilities not a problem as all toilets/showers kept very clean, with large cubicles and hot water.

English owners so no language problems here! Warm welcome at reception. We were given a pitch with a little too much shade for our liking but aprt from that everything else OK.

The village of Airvault is a fifteen minute walk away and has a number of shops and cafes and a tourist information office.

The loos and wash block on site are unisex, not our cup of tea, but they were clean and functional. Showers were hot and had plenty of room for moving around.

There are some good walks from the site details from reception.

We ate two or three times at the restaurant, the menu was a little limited but the food was good and not over priced.

A little English enclave in the French countryside, conveniently located en route from the ferryports in the north to the south west and south central departments. The friendly British owners/staff are not 100%, they are 500% committed to delivering everything you could ever want in a campsite so a stay there just has to be great. Their handout goes way beyond the expected with a wealth of information on this interesting, friendly, but little known part of France, which incidentally has many British residents. Not cheap, but they are ACSI members, so that helps out of season. Previous reviewers have hit all the nails on the head. On the minus side, I personally don't like unisex ablutions, but when in France. I suppose!

Stayed one night en route. Arrived late and tired, in middle of Friday night BBQ and sing-song but had very friendly greeting. All the previous reviews spot on. Lovely, clean, friendly, very willing to please. However, too many Brits for us (lovely people but when in France.!) and extremely expensive - more than the very high-quality site we were travelling to. Couldn't judge area as travelled on next day, nor child facilities as none with us any more! But, an excellent stopover if you don't mind the expense.

We unfortunately only stopped for one night on our way south, but could have spent much longer. Welcome and ambience was 10/10, the whole feel to the site is one of peace, tranquillity and above all cleanness and extremely tidy.
The swimming pool was heaven after a long drive. Yes I agree there were a number of Brits on site, but it certainly didn't spoil our stay, everyone was friendly but not in an over powering way.
We have caravanned all over France for many years and this definitely stands head and shoulders above the rest.

We visited this site during a very wet and soggy August. The site is situated in a small town called Airvault, between Thouars and Parthenay. The site has 60 odd pitches and a couple of statics for hire. All pitches are spacious, some exceptionally so. Our pitch comfortably fitted our trailer tent with full awning, our car, rotary drier and would have still had room for a gazebo, table and chairs and room for the children to play.

The pitches are all numbered and separated by some small bushes. There are plenty of bins, a number of water points and plenty of hook up points with the modern blue plugs. All pitches have EHU. As stated previously, thick pegs or rock pegs are needed, there is only approximately 3 inches of topsoil on the site and then you hit loose stones, which makes getting plastic pegs in very tricky. This does however mean that the site is exceptionally well draining, we had almost constant rain for 3 or 4 days and there was no mud at all.

The site has a modern and clean shower block with an adequate number of toilets and showers, including a disabled access shower with a small seat for toddlers/babies. There are also a number of washing cubicles, there was always plenty of hot water and soap, sink plugs and toilet tissue at all times. The toilet block is cleaned thoroughly once a day but as Reception is open all day it was always possible to report any problems which were sorted immediately.

There are 3 or 4 large sinks for washing up with hot and cold running water, and 3 large sinks for handwashing clothes plus a free spin drier. A large washing machine (E5.50 per wash) and tumble drier (E4.00) are also in the block.

There is a children's play area on site. It has a large climbing frame with swing and a slide and some other climbing equipment. The whole play area is sanded, so our children had hours of fun there with buckets and spades. The play area would not be suitable for very tiny children, my three year old managed fine, but probably not great for under 2s.

The swimming pool area is securely gated to stop children getting in or out by themselves. The pool is cold, however the owners are installing solar heating for 2008. It is important to be aware that the pool is not graduated in depth, it is 1.5 metres deep throughout, so swimming bands are essential for non swimmers. There are a good number of sunbeds around the pool.

The site Reception is staffed from 9am until 10pm every day. There is free WiFi access, a small bar serving drinks, tea, coffee, snacks and bottles of milk plus the essential icecreams, and bread/croissants etc can be ordered in advance for each morning. There is a large Intermarche supermarket in Airvault town, approximately 5 minutes drive away.

The site holds a number of events throughout the week, quiz nights, moules and frites night etc. We didn't attend any of these  and although we weren't far from the bar area we didn't find there to be any intrusive noise, in fact the site was very quiet at night.

There is plenty to do in the surrounding area, however you do have to be prepared to drive. We especially enjoyed Puy Du Fou (a must see!) , Vallee Des Singes, Zoo De Doue and Saumur and Airvault towns. We were less impressed with Futuroscope which we found rather dull and uninspiring.

All in all, we were very impressed with this site. The standards are high and we found the prices reasonable in comparison with other similar sites. If we were planning to visit this part of France again we would happily return as do most visitors to the site.
