Such a lovely site! Facilities are well kept and staff very helpful and friendly.
Pool is chilly but clean, with a lock on the gate out of reach for little kids so no fear of them straying in without an adult. The bar is not the average, slightly down-market campsite a-fare but really quite smart, with a separate 'adults only' area and outside heated seating, a good retreat in wet weather. Restaurant upstairs does a good coffee. Didn't eat there but the menu looks nice. Kids play area is well kept and fenced. Shop sells all the essentials at very reasonable price, the fresh bread is great.
On the not so good side the freezer was packed full and we found it only cooled our blocks but it was free (donations RNLI) and the showers were not always hot but always kept clean.
We stayed in the non electric field on the Harlyn row. Although its the furthest away from the toilets we decided we wouldn't want it any other way as the views are stunning! We were due to move to another site after a week but decided to stay, which is a first for us!
Harlyn Bay beach, we thought, was the best. Weever fish were out in force on the spring tide but Life Guards very helpful and buckets of hot water and smiles were provided. Walk to St Merryn via dog walk field (very clean, and big!), shops, pub, fish n chips all there. Surf shop are really helpful too.
Padstow never seems to change, as lovely as ever. Our best meals were at the two Italian restaurants. One overlooks the harbour and the table next to us said the lobster was the best they'd had.
All in all a truly lovely area and campsite. Booking for next year, which is very rare for us to visit a site twice!

A large site. There are several pitches, containing caravans, on long term lease, located around the facilities block next to the office. Adjacent to these are static caravans.
There are other fields available one with services, the others with limited facilities, no electric hook up. We were without electric, sharing facilities with the long term rental units. Facilities were adequate but not brilliant.
This site is close to shops and beaches. We were on a club rally and the pitch prices were expensive.

We have just returned from this site, overall a very good site, showers/toilets the best I've seen on any site, . Plenty to do for children if you choose to spend a day on site ie outdoor pool and a small play area park.
Restaurant and takeaway on site and was very good and reasonably priced. High season entertainment in the bar for families. Local shop also on site, a little pricey. Would choose a better pitch next time was a bit disappointed with it, not that level as we had some heavy rain we had to take our awning down due to floor awning flooded.
Staff were friendly and the site was very clean.

We've just returned from a long weekend at this site (2 adults & 1 dog).
The facilities were excellent we were on the camping field, we only enquired a few days in advance so we were unable to have electric hook-up but there is a brand new facilities block servicing this field, showers, toilets, washing up and waste areas were excellent. We never had to queue for showers or toilets. There is a nice bar with a family area, restaurant and takeaway on site, bar prices are in line with most pubs and the restaurant was slightly pricey but the food was very good quality (we recommend the gourmet burgers). The shop is also quite reasonable. Everywhere was very clean, we didn't use the pool but it looked nice.
There's a field for walking dogs and it's a few minutes walk to St Merryn village which is a busy little hub with a few shops, pubs, takeaways and restaurants. There is also a bakery which sells lovely fresh food at reasonable prices (we recommend the steak pasty).
We would definitely return to this site but we would book in advance next time to ensure we have electric hookup. We had lovely weather but it can get very windy at times. We walked to Harlyn Bay beach each day, it took about 40 minutes on the road or you can get a bus from St Merryn, it's probably a 5-10 minute drive and I think parking was £2. 50 for the day. The beach is dog friendly. It's very good location for travelling around Cornwall but we just wanted to sit in the sun and relax on the beach so it was perfect.

Stayed 8 nights in the rally field with C&CC, good price and very friendly. Only intended to stay for 3 nights but stayed longer because of the fantastic views and location of site.
Made use of some of the site facilities. Toilet and shower blocks clean. Site was busy and there was always a queue for the showers and dishwashing. Sockets and mirrors in laundrette for hairdryers etc.
Shop well stocked but slightly pricey.
Children's play area small but adequate. Pool was freezing, kids didn't stay in long.
Short safe walk into St. Merryn for local shops, pubs and takeaways. Roads not good for walking to local beaches but an easy bike ride to most of them or car parking available at a few.
Would stay again with C&CC but probably not on main site as it looked too crammed.
Great base for beaches and exploring North Cornwall.

Stayed for a week - 2 adults 2 kids. Wind and rain tested the tent on occasions - normal august holiday weather.
Very impressed with site - extremely clean, plenty of hot showers and toilets. Plug points for hairdryers. 4 washing machines, two industrial driers - £3 wash, 20p 3 mins drier. These came in handy to dry clothes! Shop always well stocked - bakers van arrives with fresh provisions daily.
Modern bar / family bar / pizza takeaway - cheap rounds.
Great area for surfing and cycling - recommend camel trail for days out cycling - park at wadebridge as its cheaper! Kids found local Constantine Beach best for rock pools at low tide and bodyboarding in afternoon. £4 all day car parking nr beach.
Try out Padstow for crabbing at Quayside - kids loved it. Rick steins fish and chip takeaway is fab and not too pricey. Also recommend Borough Arms, Bodmin, on Camel Trail for their carvery!
Would thoroughly recommend site for families. No rowdy crowds and good sized pitches. Great play area and outside pool (not really used though as off site most of time exploring). PS don't miss a visit to Bedruthen Steps down the road - beautiful beach!

Our first impressions when driving through the site to our pitch was how busy it was. Vans and tents intermingled everywhere. Having just come from a very quiet site, I feared not getting much sleep. However, come 10oclock each night the site was nice and quiet and we did sleep well.
We had a hedge pitch with a sea view, although the sea was in the distance over several fields.
We mostly used the shower in our caravan. Wasnt overly impressed with the showers on site. Water temperature was variable. Shower blocks in the main field seemed a bit gloomy and not well lit. Floors very slippy when wet.
Only one elsan toilet and grey waste emptying point for the field, so it was a fair trek. Another across the other side would have been good.
We found the pool a bit disappointing. Paved area was enclosed and safe, but the water was a bit murky and I'm not sure if it was heated because it was very cold. The kids didn't stay in for long. The play area next to the pool seemed to be for younger children really. Our boys, 8 and 10, got a bit bored with it.
Location very good for loads of great beaches. The kids wanted to go surfing but when we were there, there weren't many waves. Even harlyn bay which has a surf school wasn't very wavy. In the end we ended up driving down to fistral beach, newquay, where the waves were great, and only £6 to hire a foamy surf board for the day.
On site shop was quite good, with the nearby village 1/2 mile up the road with petrol station, spa shop, chip shop, chinese takeaway, and pub.
The cornish arms just down the road (rick steins pub I believe?) was nice to sit outside, but very busy for food. People seemed to waiting an hour to get a table. The second time we went it was a bit cooler in the evening, so we wanted to have a drink inside, but they wouldn't let us sit at a table, and there was nowhere else to sit inside. Obviously they just want people to eat there. So we left and went to the pub in the village (St Merryn). This was lovely and warm.
We queued for ages to get rick steins fish and chips at his Padstow harbour chip shop. You have to queue to order, then join the queue to be served. Probably waited 1/2 hour, and to be honest, we couldn't tell the difference from normal fish and chip shops, and it cost over £25 for 2 adults and 2 kids.
Parking in Padstow.Very difficult in the two harbour car parks, with very small spaces. We used the one on the road into padstow. Literally 5 mins walk down some steps to the front. Much easier.
On the whole, quite a good site, quite a busy site but this wasn't a problem, very well located for several great beaches within 10 mins drive. We would go again. Oh yes!.And it was windy all the time day and night.

OK, so because of the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland's unpronounceable volcano; we couldn't fly to Egypt. So we took our caravan into Cornwall and decided to have a few days at Higher Harlyn. We have been here before as tent campers and enjoyed using it as a base.
The weather was not fantastic but that did not matter, as we just wanted a few days away. When we arrived, the lady at reception was incredibly friendly, and as the site was quiet we had the choice of any pitch we wanted. And boy what a pitch we chose. Looking out of the window over the Atlantic ocean, we were facing west and were treated to the most magnificent sunset.
The site is mainly grass field which is nicely levelled and hook up pitches are clearly defined in blocks of four. The hedge line pitches are superb with amazing views.
SHOP: A small shop, but well stocked.
SHOWERS/TOILETS: Very clean plenty of piping hot water.
WATER POINTS: Could do with one or two more over the site, but water was good quality
ELSAN DISPOSAL: Adequate and low level, hang on to your screw caps as essentially it is a man hole cover.
BAR: Tidy and friendly, slightly premium prices, but hey, aren't they all?
POOL: Refer to their website
PLAY AREAS: Refer to their website
LOCAL FACILITIES: EXCELLENT. St.Merryn village is a ten minute walk / 2 minute cycle from the site and has a couple of great shops, chippy and Chinese take away. The farmer's Arms pub, in St.Merryn, is a beautiful old pub, very spacious with good outdoor areas. We had a light meal here and it was superb. Fine selection of beers and wines. Good friendly staff.
GOLF: Trevose golf club is only a short drive away and whilst the championship course requires a handicap certificate, the Headland course is a pay and play course which costs £26 (APRIL2010) for the dya, play as much as you like. Great value and good fun.
LOCAL AREA: Situated close to Padstow there is plenty to do and see.
SUMMARY: Would we go back to Higher Harlyn. OH YEAH! 8 OUT OF 10.
PS. Egypt never happened, but we did get a great last minute deal to Lanzarote. FANTASTIC

Very nice campsite. Quiet, but near to St Merryn which has plenty of shops. Newish caravan which was well presented. A good walk from the beach and the surrounding lanes are very narrow and a bit treacherous for pedestrians, but a footpath is provided to link up with pavemented section of road into St Merryn. We will certainly consider staying there again. The only thing to be aware of is the pool, bar and shop all closed for the season, on the weekend we arrived, which isn't on the website and we weren't made aware of.

As with all reviews I like to state the good and the bad.
I was on the rally filed with the CCC&C, which was a lot cheaper, and always friendly.
Good
Shop well stocked and not too overpriced
Clean swimming pool
Football field for the kids
Dog walk
Close to the beaches
Bad
When it rains expect a stream through your awning or tent. Field became very muddy and road very slippy
Bar was overpriced
Would I visit it again, yes but only with the CCC&C as site is very overpriced
