Absolutely loved this site. The most child friendly camp site we have been to - lots of area to play in and safe. Bit windy when we got there but the owners are the most helpful we have ever found! Lovely sea views but be prepared for the wind - basically if you want a sea view you will get a windy site at any campsite. Toilets and showers were good. Great play area for children and a very safe site for them - lovely to have a large area to play in! In the main field (not by the entrance) there are big pitches and a large area for the children to play in - you are not sitting on top of one another. Shop is extremely well equipped and we had pizza from the cafe which was delicious and the staff were very helpful! Can't praise this site enough - much better than other ones up the road. No entertainment although there was a bit of noise but that stopped at 10.30pm so can't complain! Great site will definitely be going back again. Nice little walk to St Merryn and Harlyn Beach is fab!

Higher haryln is a great camp site
I have been there every year since I was born and I still enjoy it, it never gets boring!
I am 11 years old so this year will be the 12th time I have been and I still love it!
I have three younger sisters and they enjoy it as well it is great fun!
The shop is good it has got stuff to keep you busy and also food and drink supplies.
The pub is very good but I think that they need to do something that children can do.
The toilets and showers were great for a campsite they are usually all dirty and the showers are usually cold at other campsites but not here!
The swimming pool and park are really good.
The pool is a good size and it is quite handy to have the park cafe pub and swimming pool close together because if your kids want to swimming or to the park instead of you being bored and watching them play you could go to the cafe or pub or even you could go to the park :)
I hope you get a chance to visit higher harlyn it is a great place !

A busy, pretty, hilltop established site, near two beaches, sea views. Constantine Bay 15min walk, Haryln Beach 10min walk.
The showers, toilets and launderette are comfortable. Use your own hairdryer / straighteners in the launderette for free.
Ironing boards are available, pay a £10 returnable deposit to use their steam iron.
Swimming pool: Safe, block paved and clean.
I felt the bar (we visited once) was a little too modern, High seating with low coffee tables and children kept running in at 10pm to find their parents. An area for development.
Camping: We camped in the rally field with the camping and caravan club, great for caravanner's, but not tenters. The same applies for the other field.
We endured 46mph winds this summer, only 5 tents were left standing! X-Flex poles are essential. Forget windbreaks, cheap tents, gazebos, they are too dangerous.
Caravanner's must have storm straps and secure your awning doors.
When the winds had calmed, it was still difficult for us, as there wasn't any shelter from the sea wind. Be warned!
The owners were helpful to pull campers out of the mud, when cars got stuck on both fields.
Although we couldn't change the weather, this site is exposed.
Walking distance in the village:chip shop, pub, Chinese take away, shop @ shop bakery, even a post office! All cash only.
The local shops, including the campsite DO NOT accept debit cards. The post office offer free cash withdrawals during opening hours. Padstow is your nearest town for cash points and a supermarket.

Well what can I say about this site - I'll start off with the good.
Never had to queue for the showers, (if you go use the ones next to the laundrette - even quieter there and seems lighter and bigger too - though still very dark if you used during the daytime and no option of turning on the light) loos or washing up area, seemed to have plenty of hot water and they were pretty clean too.
The cafe and pub were clean and were pretty good for that kind of thing - we only tried the pizza and burgers but reasonably priced and pretty good too - obviously not 5* but you wouldn't expect that.
And I'm afraid that's it for the good, onto the bad!
The shop maybe well stocked if you go earlier in the season, however I would expect bank holiday week to still be high season and not the close of season as several people were told when asking if they would be getting more things in - shelves were very bare. Also the opening hours changed from 8am - 8pm to closing at 7pm (and 1 night to 6pm) with no warning. However there are well stocked shops in St Merryn just down the road.
Being new to camping, when we booked we opted for electric hook up, all great except the light where you hook up to stays on all night, fine I suppose if your sleeping area is not right next to it. Also there are orange street lights all over the place - I mean who goes camping without a torch?!
The positioning of the campsite wasn't great and it looked a bit barren. To be fair they can't really help the weather but they could at least try and put in a bit of protection - the Higher in the title should have given it away, oh and there are also 4 wind farms close by! I suppose if we had had glorious sunshine we wouldn't have noticed, but we didn't and it was very windy. Apparently in the weeks before we arrived several campers abandoned the site leaving behind their ruined tents!
Personally the site was too busy for me and there were too many caravans! Also some of the later guests were not considerate of others with regards to noise.
After all that, if you still wanted to go I wouldn't bother with the electric hook up as you then don't have a choice where to pitch and there are better pitches that give more protection for tents and have slightly less light pollution.

Stayed here for two weeks this summer with the Camping & Caravanning Club (same campsite but reduced rates, £12 per unit per night, as a member of the club. I have to say if we were paying full price £22 peak season I think, we would expect a bit more.) Toilets are cleaned once a day but can become really mucky when it rains, noticed a difference in cleanliness when the park started to get busy when the kids school holidays started. Showers also cleaned daily. These are not too bad but never seem to get it right as they seemed to be really hot this year but became not much more than a dribble if a few showers were running at the same time. This will be our 6th year coming here and we are looking about for a new campsite to visit. Find owners a tad ignorant, and hygiene with regards to the bakery products leaves a lot to be desired, went in to change over our freezer packs (it is compulsory to leave a silver donation in the 'charity' box when doing this every day) and daily I had to ask them to remove pasties etc. Sitting uncovered on the lid of the chest freezer. They also put them on the shop shelf uncovered and for a hands to touch, seen a few kids pawing at them, need less to say we did not sample these delights! The cafe on the site is expensive and pizza menu quite large but a tad odd for us. Pub has recently been decorated and this was long overdue when you consider the amt of money they must be making in this place. The owners and their local friends also take over at a weekend as they have local entertainment and it gets to be a bit rowdy. Try the Farmers Arms in the village of St Merryn for a meal and a drink, walking distance from the camp site. Padstow only a 4 mile car journey and Newquay 13miles. Walking distance to various beaches, We will def be back to the area but poss try a different campsite.

I've been to this site many many times, and every years it gets better,
In a previous year we were off to another site in st ives, as we began to unpack the car we realised we forget the tent! DOH!
So we packed back up and set off to go home get it and come back that day (back to devon) after contacting st ives - we were told they had given our pitch away, AHHH.
We rang Harlyn 5 mins later and they said they could find us a pitch no problem and we went down and pitched up that night,
Now what does that tell you. Not only never leave your tent at home, but this site is amazing.
You get access to everything on the site plus stunning veiws and wonderful places to visit locally. And the club field is cheaper but a little more to walk, but it will do ya good!
A little drive to the beach, and little walk to the chippy or the pub. Lots of happy times on this site :) Highly recommended.

Lovely campsite which we have been using for 2 years now. Facilities are always kept clean and tidy, however as you would expect they do get very busy in the Summer and sometimes your shower can be more like a dribble! BUT - everything else is great. Lovely play area, bar and restaurant are great. On-site shop is always well stocked, and the fresh bread is always nice. Staff are always very friendly and helpful. Bus service is very reliable for a trip into Padstow (which is the loveliest place!). Plenty of taxi numbers available at reception too. Lovely walk into St Merryn for a nice cold pint after a long day on the beach. We think the value for money is great, and certainly beats sites that charge per person. Great site and we will continue to go - in fact we're going tomorrow!

We have been staying here for a couple of years now, it's a great site. Friendly, helpful staff, good flat fields, kept in good order. There are 3 shower blocks in total, understandably busy in the summer holidays. But they are kept clean and have regular checks by the staff. Good shop on site, with fresh bread/bakery items delivered daily. They provide an ice pack service, whereby you freeze your own ice packs - so it would be an idea to mark your ice packs with permanent marker beforehand and put in a distinctive plastic bag so they don't get mixed up with all the tesco plastic bags in the freezer. There is an excellent pizzeria on site which is fab when you've lost all your energy playing on the beach all day! Lovely beaches all around and only a couple of miles away. Our favorite was Treyarnon which has a sea pool, many rock pools to explore and excellent surf. We'll be back again this year

Pitches are good and mostly level, although the ground does slope away near the hedge on the northern side of the site. Good shop and the cooked breakfast in 'Waves' restaurant is highly recommended (particularly for your day of departure). Bar is also good, as is the on site pizza take away. Many people use cars to get to the wash-house on the Northern filed, which adds unnecessarily to the traffic on the site. Showers and washing facilities in need of an upgrade / expansion; pressure is frequently too low and the hot water is in short supply. Insufficient hooks around sinks in Gent's washroom to hang your kit up while having a shave - small point but easily rectified!
Staff should accompany arrivals to their pitch as other sites do - we arrived at our pitch after a long drive to find someone had abandoned their camper van right in the middle of the pitch! St. Merryn has a small supermarket (10 min walk) and a general store for beach stuff and kid's games. The petrol station carries a small range of camping spares in it's shop. There is also a large fish and chip shop and a reasonable restaurant in the village. Harlyn Bay has a good beach with lifeguards about a half hour walk on narrow road (not recommended) or 5 min drive to car park (£3 for the day) - there is a beach cafe serving hot food and drinks. When approaching from Wadebridge, don't follow 'Brown' signs to campsite - head for St. Merryn and turn right (North) at cross roads in centre of village. The site is about 0.3 mile out of the village on the left. Won't visit again as I think there are much better sites for the money.

Well run site with very active owners. Standard of pitches was good, as was electric hook-up. Good toilets, showers & dishwashing facilities.
Only 2 draw backs:
1) The site is on top of a hill and as on a headland gets wind from the sea from SW through to NE (however the owners do clearly draw this to you attention when you book).
2) Clientelle - the site is a family only site and has banned groups under 25 (and when we were there threw off a group of 25 - 28 year olds who were there to party) BUT still there are those who do not treat the site with the respect it deserves. In particular there appear to be a number of families who are happy to let their 12+ year old children go off on their own. Whilst there several groups congregated around the play area and pool (although again the owners were very active in addressing these incidents). Also users seem to bring the overall cleanliness of the toilets (at least male) down.
Location is good only a mile away from Harlyn Bay - very nice, v. Good surf school. However walking down was a bit dodgy as a lot of vehicles drive far too fast and were rude to pedestrians (but a lot were very helpful / patient).
St Merryn is only 1/4 mile away and is well equiped with several shops (although they tended to be dearer than the site shop) and Bistros. We tried Prynn's, which specialises in seafood - nice but pretty dear (and cute at extracting the tourist pound). The local pub - the Farmer's Arms - seemed a bit grotty.
Padstow easily reached and has a good Tesco.
In summary a good, well run site, but suffering from the pull that the wider Newquay area has for the "Magaluf" set.
