Another great caravan club site. Extremely hard working and friendly wardens. The site is kept immaculate despite it being very busy with very clean toilet blocks.
We found the music in the loo blocks a nice friendly touch and not at all obtrusive DVD loan scheme and book loan for charity a great idea for those rare wet evenings. The dog walk is the size of a football pitch with adequate dog bins.
The kids play area and agility trail is good and on top of that a large fenced off playing field for footy or cricket/rounders etc Fish n chip man is great although you must queue early or you may be eating well late.
The wardens have art competitions for the kids and there are games for the junior members to loan in the info room to. A very friendly relaxed attitude on site even though standards were high. We will return

Firstly the approach is fab for Cornwall, as its on a traffic light system, so no crossed fingers at the end of a long journey.
Great site, spotlessly clean, friendly and helpful wardens.
Info hut is well stocked, even a great dvd library for rainy evenings with teenagers.
Strawberry man and chippy van visit twice a week each and both were very good though the queue for fish and chips was long. The strawberry man calls at each pitch at pudding time!
Dog walk is half a field and not very pretty but the dog didn't mind. Still lots to sniff and room for a run.
Play area was a bit unimaginative for older kids but little ones will love it.
Pitches are well cared for and large enough. We were on hard standing.
The area is fantastic. Quiet and uncomercialised with some fab family beaches. A Co-op in St. Mawes and butcher and general store in Portscatho.
Melinsey Mill and Smugglers are great for cream teas and the Roseland Inn at Philleigh does lovely food too. Been coming to the Roseland for years, since the kids were very small and we all love it down here.
Definitely coming back to Merrose farm.

Wonderful part of the world which we know very well, tragic news about the Pandora pub and hopefully it will re-open before next summer after the fire. This is a very nice site, although it is not Tretham Mill (down the St Mawes Rd).
Superficially the wardens were friendly and welcoming, however it became quite clear that they operate the site for their own convenience and not for the paying guests. Half of the shower blocks were closed on the bank holiday Monday with a sign saying 'closed due to less than 100 pitches in use' as a result the other half were dirty and wet with long queues.
We also asked if it would be possible to have a late checkout, but before we had the chance to offer payment etc we were told most emphatically no - this despite the fact that by their own notice they had less than 100 pitches in use!
I must confess that the experience was a disappointment and the music referred to in an earlier review did get to me as a result - I simply cannot fathom why the CC think it appropriate to have a bizarre range of pre-recorded 'radio 1' style range of rap / pop / rock music
All in all this is a super area and worth revisiting, however this site is let down by rules and an odd approach to customer service - we will go to the Roseland again, but maybe not to this site.

Merrose is run to usual CC high standards, clean and tidy with good sized pitches etc. The wardens do their best to keep toilets clean as very busy. None of the pitches have views unless you wish to be near play area or dog walk.
Most CC sites I will visit again however Merrose is not one of them, sadly this site suffers from I'm on holiday beggar what anyone else thinks syndrome, kids on bikes(without lights) fly around the site until late. Dog poo was not picked up even outside the dog walk. It just doesn't have the quite and friendly feel that most CC sites have.
An error on my part, won't be booking Cornwall in high season again.
That all said the local beaches are very nice as are the small fishing villages but expect to pay for car parking at every turn.
Fish and chips in St Mawes is a expensive £7!
Be prepared to travel if you need anything like surfing beaches or supermarkets, shop around for fuel too prices differ by as much as 5p litre.
Lost Gardens of Heligan is a lovely day out, something for everyone.
The laid back atmosphere of Newquay and surrounding area has gone, in with beer and louts.

What a gorgeous campsite in a beautiful part of Britain!
The campsite is located in a beautiful and quiet part of Cornwall. Fantastic beaches nearby, accessible via scenic coastal footpaths.
You definitely have the countryside feeling when you stay at this site. Friendly welcome by the wardens. I must say, they keep the site in outstanding conditions. The toilet blocks were spotless, updated and there were loudspeakers with relaxing music too. The grass was constantly mowed and the playarea was in good conditions.
At the reception you could have a large selection of DVDs and books to borrow (small donation for a local charity) and plenty of leaflets for local attractions.
A fish&chips van turns up at the site twice a week and the 'strawberry/vegetables man' visits the site every week too.
Downsides:
Friendly wardens, but they were very strict: no washing lines for H&S reasons, no car on the grass at all. They even refused to lend me a ladder I needed to adjust the aerial on my caravan, for H&S reasons again! Very limited opening time at the reception, and again they don't allow any lateness or extra time.
Driving with the caravan down the narrow lanes around the campsite can be challenging.

This is a typical C. C. Site. Clean, tidy and well kept. The toilet blocks are spotless.
There is a nice relaxed atmosphere here, no fussing over petty rules.
We like peace and quiet so went to the back field which was nearly empty, grass pitches but lovely.
There is a playground, adventure playground and a big field with a set of goalposts.
The dog walk is at the back of the site.
A chippy visits Monday and Thursday but we didn't try it so can't comment.
This site is a bit out of the way, nothing within walking distance. Having said that there is a lot not to far driving distance. The castles are well worth a visit.
Mevagissey is a good day out if you like a walk round. It was heaving when we went but get away from the gift shops and it's nice. Watch the prices in some of the eating places on the harbour. We went into the back streets and found nice cafes at reasonable prices.
Falmouth is nice but a bit of s shopping centre and can be busy 'Pasty Face' on the main street does excellent pasties and coffee.
St Mawes is better, quieter and more relaxed. You must visit the deli in the arcade at the bottom of the car park. Everything here is great, sausage rolls like you've never seen. Quiches made by the owner's Mum.
However the main reason we go the this area is the river Fal and Carrick Roads. There are ferries back and forth at regular invervals.
The best day is going to the Smugglers Rest at Tolverne and catching a boat to either Falmouth or St Mawes. Then on the return trip stop at the Smugglers Rest and have a cream tea. Superb scones and jam made from special local plums
This site has one major drawback for us. It may seem petty but they have started using muzak in the toilet block and you can't turn it off. It is awful and intrusive and unfortunately means we will not be returning here. We'll find an alternative site.

Another very well kept CC site on our travels.
Wardens very helpful, toilets / showers clean and well looked after. The site was still fairly busy even this late in the season, only hard standings in use.
The nearby town on St. Mawes was great for cafes and pubs and from there we caught the passenger ferry to Falmouth. Its a 30 minutes trip costs £3 each way and make a nice changing from driving for a day. There is a large car park in St. Mawes and its costs £2.50 to park for the day.
Overall a good base to explore what seems a slightly quieter corner of Cornwall.

We were spoilt for choice as to where to pitch and received some useful tips from one of the wardens. We normally pitch on a hard standing, but this time got caught out as I have screw in pegs which usually give me no trouble but the hard standing was seriously hard under the top surface which caused me problems, the only answer was to buy a dozen rock pegs to hold the awning down.
We parked as advised to the left of the entrance and lined the caravan up as suggested, we then experienced some heavy early morning rain, actually the caravan should have been where the car was as the water came down the slope straight through the awning door.
The camp site was very clean and tidy, the toilet blocks had all up to date facilities, The fish and chip van calls twice a week and they were excellant, as also does a man selling strawberries etc.
We love walking so this site suited us fine it was also easy to give ones dog a good walk, along the adjacent bridle path which is in addition to the on site dog walk.
The nearby beaches were quiet with choices of rocks or sand, care had to be taken as to which were dog friendly. Portscatho nearby was a lovely place to visit, and a pub at Portaloe served excellence food. In St. Austell we found a good day boarding kennels which allowed us to visit the Eden project without any worries.
We look forward to our next visit to this excellent campsite.

This is a great site. On arrival we were told to walk around the site until we found a pitch. A friendly warden pointed out a hard standing which we settled upon.
The shower/toilet block is kept very clean. The pitches are well maintained and the whole site is clean and tidy. There is a good sized fenced off dog walk. The staff are very helpful and friendly and a small stock of essential items are kept at the reception/shop but you have to be quick to snap up bread or rolls!
A chip van visits twice a week and someone goes around selling strawberries although we were never back early enough to buy any! Newspapers can be ordered at reception. There is also a good playground.
This site is quite remote but we are used to driving to shops and beaches so that doesn't worry us. St Mawes is not too far away. The best beach I can recommend is Gorran Haven, it's a bit of a drive (through lots of twisty turny lanes) but is well worth it. We are in the Caravan Club so this was the closest site to Gorran Haven and our 2 children wanted to go to this beach all the time!
All the Caravan Club sites we have visited have been good but I especially like this one because of the location and feel of the place.

This site is located near St Mawes on the Roseland peninsula. Access is down a narrow lane controlled by traffic lights.
We found the wardens very friendly and accommodating and the site was maintained to a high standard. They were relaxed about arrival time but departures by 12 noon.
There are 178 touring pitches of which 37 are hardstandings. The site is sloping but pitches are generally level so you may not need levelling blocks.
Site security is maintained by the warden’s office being adjacent to the site entrance
There is a single heated toilet block with showers, WCs and privacy cubicles. Also a parent / toddler room and disabled bathroom, washing up / vegetable preparation area and laundry facilities. There was also an external shower for the surfers or maybe the extroverts.
Service points around the site for water and rubbish disposal. Also chemical disposal facilities. Limited recycling facilities
Dog walk adjacent the site but you are also close to the coastal path so plenty of choice.
Large children’s play area on site with equipment.
Cornwall has gone digital so you will need a digital decoder for TV reception and the signal was good. Wi-fi is available at a cost of £5 per hour and the warden advised the signal is only fair and dependent on where you are on the site.
The site shop sells basic provisions and whilst we were there a local farmer brought around fresh strawberries and the site shop sells Cornish clotted cream. About 5 minutes walk away there is a local farm selling fresh fish. In St Mawes (about 4 miles) there was a Co-op but you will have to go to Truro or St Austell if you want a supermarket. A fish and chip van called at the site on two evenings we were there.
We paid £16 per night for standard hardstanding pitch with 16 amp electrical hook-up, caravan, awning and two adults.
Local attractions include:
• The beaches which are many and varied but access is usually down a narrow country lane with passing places. Be prepared to reverse a lot because many of the local cars seem to be missing a reverse gear.
• St Mawes castle which is very well preserved and the audio guide is excellent.
• Falmouth which is just across the estuary from St Mawes but about 24 miles if you drive around. You can take the St Mawes passenger ferry and get a discounted ticket from the warden. Parking in St Mawes is £2.50 all day.
• Trelissick Garden (National Trust) which is about five miles from the site if you use the King Harry vehicular ferry. Again get a discounted ticket from the warden. This is a large woodland garden with a good tearoom.
• Eden Project at St Austell about 15 miles away. A large garden in an old clay pit with Mediterranean and Rainforest biomes which get very busy. Well worth a visit but have a look at the ticket prices before you go! It also rains a lot there so take an umbrella because there isn’t any shelter if you get caught in a storm between the visitor centre and the biomes.
• Truro (about 13 miles) with its magnificent cathedral and good tearoom. Access to the cathedral is free but you are invited to give a donation.
Overall a lovely site in a beautiful part of the world.
