Attempted to visit July 08 as a result of the other reviews
What potential visitors should realise is that the pub is shut Mondays and Tuesdays and as previously mentioned only opens at 7pm other weekdays
This time seems common with many village pubs in the peak district, I just wish the pubs website had stated opening times
I will try again later in the year
Had a walk around site is as described by others
No trace of owners.

This is a lovely small site at the back of a lovely little country pub. Grassy field, with excellent toilet and shower facilities. Pot washing was in the same room as the gents loo, but there was a lock on the door so no problem at all. All very clean and tidy. Pub very welcoming and did lovely food. Lovely walking from here too. Fantastic rural views.
Had a really lovely time and cannot wait to go back.

Four of us stayed here over a VERY rainy weekend in March. The site is a bit basic (it is just the field behind the pub) There's only one toilet/shower combined and the washing up facilities are in the gents toilet but it IS a small site so not really a problem especially at this time of year.
My top tip would be leave the car in the pub car park if the weather is a bit dodgy, 3 of us had to be pulled out by a lovely chap in a Land Rover (which cost us a tenner and a tow strap) including my father-in-law in his Hilux Surf! It really does get boggy!
Its the ideal site for adventuring up at Thors cave and anyone who likes a bit of a ramble.
The pub is very nice but incredibly busy on a Saturday night so book if you want to eat. Decently priced food and beer.
We'll be going back when the weather is better.

A wonderful and secluded site next to a church. Very slight slope but not enough to be a problem. Brian and Janet, the owners, were very friendly and helpful as were all the pub staff and locals. The pub served excellent food and had 3 locally brewed beers. We will most certainly returning.

We spent one night at this site to celebrate our Wedding anniversary and left our little girl with her Grandparents. One point of caution, the approaches to Wetton are a little hairy if you're towing (single track roads bordered by 6ft dry stone walls and 1 in 8 gradients) The field itself is slightly sloping (levelling blocks required) and situated behind the Pub and the Village Church. As has been mentioned before the church does strike every hour, but it really isn't disturbing at all. The toilet blocks were clean (we used our own facilities) although the toilet and shower are in the same room which I guess means that the toilet is 'out of action' if someone is having a shower. At £5 per night plus £1 per person the site is excellent value for money. The village itself is lovely with the even more picturesque village of Alstonefield a pleasant afternoon's walk away. The Pub itself enjoys a well deserved reputation for well kept real ales and good home made food, although I would suggest booking on a Saturday night as it tends to be popular. One point to note is that the pub doesn't open until 7 in the evening. The other campsite in the village is much larger and seems to host a number of school parties, although during our stay, the behaviour was impeccable. The only negative point of our stay was the party of screaming children who kept us up until 11, however this wasn't the fault of the site. All in all a lovely, basic, value for money site with it's own en suite pub

On arrival at campsite owners met us and told us just where we could pitch. Quitr busy as it was Saturday afternoon but we had booked so no problem. Quite a level site so no problems pitching our tent. Toilets clean and towels and soap provided and smelt lovely. Gents also clean. Pub food was lovely and not too pricey.
Church right next door, chiming every hour and then some. Felt guilty not going to church Sunday but we was on a weekend break. The bells didn't wake me up but the dawn chorus did, 4 o'clock in the morning bless all the little darlings.
Really had a fab stay.

Just back from a 4-day mid-week break at Ye Olde Royal Oak in Wetton and cannot praise it highly enough. We arrived on Tuesday evening and had just one neighbour, had it all to ourselves for the next two nights, whilst on Friday night it was full. But as the site takes a maximum of 12 pitches we still found it to be very quiet. The site is on a lovely, gently sloping croft at the back of the pub and next to the churchyard. The church bells struck the number of hours on the hour and just once on the half hour but we did not find them at all loud. In all the setting is wonderfully tranquil. For the price (£5 per tent plus £1 per person) it is hard to beat simply for the site alone, but with the excellent toilet facilities thrown in at no extra cost we certainly had no cause to complain. There is a separate block each for ladies and gents, boasting constant hot water for both large sink and electric shower, plenty of loo rolls, liquid soap and even shower gel. The only slight drawback is that the loos are in the same buildings, so when it gets busy (e.g. On our final Saturday morning) there was a bit of a queue. Having said that, with only 12 pitches the wait wasn't that long. The pub is great and Janet and Brian the proprietors, all the staff and locals were exceptionally friendly. Three real ales to choose from during our visit - Abbot, Theakstons and Spitfire - were all well kept. The food is also very good - both myself and Sirius the dog can heartily recommend the steaks. Wetton is a lovely little village, actually across the border in Staffordshire, and really convenient for Dovedale, the Manifold Valley, and all parts of the White Peak. There are plenty of great local walks and an evening stroll to the mouth of Thor's Cave and back, less than a mile away, is a perfect way to round off the day, especially for an exuberant bearded collie. This is easily one of the best sites we have stayed at and caters wonderfully for the simple pleasures life with a tent. Long may it continue. We will definitely be going back again in May.

First time at this campsite and what a gem it is, we found the campsite very friendly, the toilets and showers were nice and clean and provided with soap and towels. The pub has a great atmosphere and has a choice of real ales, it also does food but we never tried it. The campsite is slightly sloping and doesn't have electric hook up and we would definitely go back to this cracking little site

Lovely little peaceful campsite with adequate facilities (for behind a pub). Nice view of the village church and the pub sells excellent ales. Campsite was very quiet when we camped, in fact we were all alone for the majority. A 15 minute stroll to the next pub, head towards Alstonefield. Nearby walk to Thor's cave is a must.

Just got back from a midweek break with my hubby and our dogs. It was exactly what we were looking for. Nice quiet site, plenty of good walks with a fantastic "local" pub on the doorstep. Toilets and showers were basic, 1 ladies, 1 gents, free, plenty of hot water, clean with plenty of room and lots of hooks. £5 per tent plus £1 per person. Washing up facilities in the gents toilets. Dogs were made very welcome and were allowed in the pub where they had a huge fuss made of them. Food was fantastic (can highly recommend the steak and sticky toffee pudding!) Very quiet while we were there (end of September) but I believe it gets booked up quick in the summer. All in all, made to feel very welcome and shall be returning.
