If Heineken did campsites then they would be like this. Showers and toilets v. Good. The pub is great, really friendly. The grounds idyllic and the walking perfect peaks. Check out the Polly's Cottage in Dovedale too, for the best sandwich and tea ever.

Just had a midweek break at this excellent campsite. We found the campsite as previously mentioned, basic but very well kept with short grass and very clean toilets and showers. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The pub serves excellent real ale & has a reasonably priced menu, I can personally recommend the steak! The site is more suitable for walkers than families as facilities for children are limited. There are numerous walks in the area, Milldale is 2.5miles away and the walk from there to Dovedale is one of the most attractive. I hope this site continues it's current trend for walkers as there are plenty of family sites in this area. Current prices £5.00 per tent + £1.00 per person per night, no charge for the showers. This was our first visit, & we WILL be returning. 9/10

This is a small slightly sloping croft behind the village pub. The levellest pitches can be found at the bottom of the field. There is 1 toilet and 1 shower for each sex. The shower and toilet are in the same room so the toilet cannot be used when someone is showering, but you could always use the gents/ladies or the ones in the pub when it is open. The site is next to the church and the clock strikes every hour, but we found ear-plugs and the pubs real ale helped us sleep through this.
The food in the pub is excellent and the service is good too. Children are not allowed in the bar but there is a separate family room next-door to the bar which makes it a good place to visit with or without children. The beer garden is accessible direct from the site via a gate.
This is definitely an area for walkers. There are footpaths from the village in all directions, one of these taking you to the nearby Thors Cave (take a torch to explore this) and the beautiful Manifold Valley, another to the National Trust area of Wetton Hill with lovely views over the village and surrounding countryside. Dovedale, The Tissington Trail, and The High Peak Trail are also within easy reach. There is no shop in the village, but shops and tourist attractions can be found at nearby Hartington. Buxton and Ashbourne are within reasonable distance for supermarkets.
This is a basic site with no EHU but the fees at the time of our visit were only £4 per night for unit with 2 people plus an extra £1 for an extra person and no extra charge for the showers. I hope it stays uncommercialised like this and retains its rural atmosphere. This site is now on my list of favourites and I hope to go back for a full week very soon.
