I've been back time and time again to this lovely little site. Very friendly and only 4.00 per person a night. 20p for a hot shower. Basic facilities but such a great location. The river flows right on the edge of the site and is great for kids paddling and playing.

If you want bells and whistles this wont be for you but if you want peace and tranquillity combined with very good value, great walks in the forest and to be right in the centre of beautiful Dartmoor then I cant recommend this site enough.

The only drawback when its busy is that there is limited flat ground so you might find yourself waking up with your tent mates in a pile in the corner of your tent. But even so I love it and will go back many times in the future.

Found the site very quiet, friendly owners, clean facilities and at £4 per person and 20p for 5 mins shower very affordable. Didn't use the village shop but would take everything with you just in case. We used it as a base for cycling Dartmoor and found it ideal, if a bit hilly, but that's Dartmoor.

For me the downsides are as has been mentioned, the walk to the village pub is long and also strenuous for the unfit, lack of electric hookups, long grass, nothing to put under wheels for levelling due to the sloping ground, no play facilities for kids and possibly the narrow lanes getting to the site with a caravan, otherwise will definitely go back.

Arrived at this campsite late in the pouring rain. Not a great deal of level ground for tents but it was quiet so no problem finding a flat pitch.

Good clean facilities and hot showers. A bit of a walk to the pub but well worth it when we did find it! On the edge of a very dramatic Dartmoor and great for visiting the Eden project (which we did as the sun failed to shine)! Not too far from the coast and although we didn't see the owners until we left they were friendly!

Great for walkers and those wanting to explore Dartmoor.

Yes, this is a nice site, but there is no flat ground. If you don't mind sleeping on a slope, then its nice. But the owner has made no attempt to even out the ground (which isn't exactly difficult) so most people are forced to camp beside the road, which is the least sloping area.

Its also very crowded in the summer

Lovely site and owners. Toilets basic as mentioned in previous reviews but also very clean.

Great local walks.

Site very peaceful as we went after the May bank holiday so hardly anyone there. River runs on one side of the site which is great for dogs that like to swim.

Price £3.50 which is amazing and you pay when you leave without having to give any personal details.

We have just returned from Cockingford having spent three nights in this wonderful location.

The site is spread over three fields, getting gradually smaller, along the East Webburn River and flat ground is rather limited.

The facilities are also limited and rather dated but totally clean and adequate with showers (20p) and dish washing facilities. There are no electric hookups. Charges are very reasonable at £3.50 per person per night. Children are cheaper depending on age and well behaved dogs are welcome.

The site owners live in the nearby farm and sell milk, eggs, gas and probably much more!

If you are looking for peace, quiet and beautiful scenery then this is for you. We'll be returning soon.

I can only agree with what's been said before about the quietness and beauty of this site. Main dislikes some very sloping pitches. Toilet block needs tidying but is perfectly usable.

No Electric Hook ups though (first time without for us). Due to problems elderly owners now have put a stop to open Fires. Price increase for 2009 £3.50 per adult with child discounts according to age. Well worth a visit, we will be back.

My husband and I stayed at this site at the end of July 2008, just as the school Holidays began!

Most of the kids were great really well behaved, but a few insisted on continually running around about two feet from our tent. The inevitable happened, and one rather enthusiastic kid tripped over one of our guy ropes snapping it and damaging the tent.

Despite this our two day stay at this campsite was not spoilt. If you want a few days break in an idyllic rural setting, this is the place for you.

The Site itself consists of several fields which run alongside a very pretty river. Despite the site being quite busy at the time of our visit, we were easily able to pitch up in a great spot next to the river.

The Site is run by an elderly couple, who are more than happy to let you get on with it - In fact we only saw them to say Hi to when we arrived, and to pay when we left! The wash block is perfectly adequate and the wash facilities clean, but it could do with a little lick of paint! There is also an open air sink area to the left of the block to wash all of your pots and pans etc.

We didn't travel with kids but if you are then the site is very safe, and there is bags of room for the kids to run about in and explore their surroundings; many seemed to be having a great time playing in the river!

At £3 per adult per night this site is an absolute bargain, and the perfect location to get away from busy London life and get some air!(especially as there is no mobile phone reception for about a five mile radius!)

We found the other campers around us to be friendly and welcoming, many of whom were local to Devon who regularly return. The location of the camp site is great - it is about a five minute drive from the 'chocolate box' village of Widecombe on the Moor, and a great base to explore further afield.

We will definitely return again to this site, but maybe next time will go outside of the school hols!

Set in a valley in amongst the moors. Very cheap and quite basic - three small fields (only parts of which are flat enough for tents) and a small

Loo/shower block. We've stayed twice out of the peak season (2006 and 2007), and it's been quiet and peaceful. But last time we went was over the August Bank Holiday weekend, and it was a completely different place - cramped and crowded -

Not nice. Will definitely be going back, but not in school holidays!

It was at the end of may 2008 that me and my girlfriend visted this campsite staying in a tent. We found it to be great value for money at £3.00 per night per adult. The main things for us was it is basic so you do not have alot of kids there which is great! It is also in a great location for walking on the moors which is fantastic!
You do get a welcome from some vistors these are ducks which come up to say hello from the river which runs along the campsite. To sum it up if you want to get away from it all and have peace and quiet then this is the place . P.S we will be coming back again.
