We spent a few wonderful days on this beautiful site, which is in a pretty valley a mile and a half out of Widecombe.
The camping field does have quite a slope, which may be a problem when it is busy, but we had no problems finding a flat pitch near the stream which runs through the site. The only company we had on the first night we stayed was the inquisitive ducks, who came over begging for bread. The chaffinches and robins are similarly friendly and think nothing of venturing into your tent if you leave any crumbs lying around.
The showers are fine and cost 20p for 5 minutes, a small price considering we only paid £3 each per night, and we found there was plenty of hot water. The block was clean but probably hasn't had a lick of paint for a while.
The site is in a lovely setting within walking distance of Widecombe and the wonderful Rugglestone Inn which serves real ale and hearty food - perfect after a moorland walk. A word to the wise though - don't go to the deceptively named Old Inn, which has been made completely soulless by an insensitive refit.
We would quite happily return to this laid back site, run by an elderly couple who are quite happy to leave you to your own devices (and they allow fires next to the stream).
