After 10 nights in the New Forest, st John's was a halfway stop off on the way home to Cornwall in order to break up the journey for my children, , as other reviews have stated, the toilet/showers need updating but come on people! This is a lovely little site, quiet, pretty and certainly not littered in dog poo as stated before! We are all campers/caravanners and we should get behind and support these small independent sites, , , use them, we found a little gem here! Our children and us loved our 3 night stay

Stayed for 2 nights in July. Very quiet site and good area. Unfortunately toilet blocks let the site down. Very poor toilet block in field that needs desperate updating/new block. Other block near farmhouse very old but cleaner but in dire need of updating. Will not be returning.

Was there 16th/18th October. The site was good, well mowed. The disabled toilets / showers were good and clean. Elsan was clean and very accessible. I was there with two other couples and we all very much enjoyed the site. Also good food in Exmouth at the Merchant pub

I read the reviews for this site after booking and thought oh dear.
Well we have just come back from a weekend at the site and I must say we had a fabulous time here.
It is a well kept nice quiet site and the owners are welcoming.
The toilet block is kept nice and clean.
The bus stop about a 10 min walk to take you into the town and the buses are every half hour, but for £4 you can get a taxi into town.
I will be recommending this site to all our camping friends and will be booking again and again for a relaxing break

This site is wonderful for a country location near Exmouth, not too far from a bus stop, sadly the farm shop is no more apart from having a honesty box to buy fantastic local free range eggs, yes the facilities could be better but the site and location compensates for the this.
The hosts where a little hard to find to pay but I did not find this a problem after all they are the ones wanting our money

Easy to find.
Reception was in an entrance space at the front of the home. A little of an uncomfortable welcome, left stood on the doorstep and not invited in to talk through the site.
Field was quite sloped but we found a bit at the edge that was ok. Some of the grass had been cut when quite long so it was everywhere and went everywhere unfortunately. The field was used by others to walk dogs so there was dog poo residue to avoid. Dogs were always off leads which they really should ban-with small children around its only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. Also I don't appreciate having my butt sniffed every 2 minutes.
Playpark is very good, wooden and bark chips to cushion the kids.
The toilet/shower/washup blocks are only about 20ft apart and up the top end so we had a hell of a trek (bad lay out) Both blocks are in need for modernisation desperately one more so than the other. 1 free shower 2 paid (which didn't work after you put the money in).
Overall nice site but they need to spend a little money to perk it up and make the showers all free afterall we've all paid the same!

We spent two nights here - it was very basic and not as the website shows.
Toilet facilities are very basic/with taps loose, poor hot water, not enough showers for the site.
Shop as shown on the website was closed down.
Dog waste bins were overflowing.
Playground facilities looked good.
I agree with previous reviewer about stable access across the main entrance to the playground where children are likely to be crossing. The cars accessing were going much too fast - an accident waiting to happen.
The site was generally neglected. We would not recommend.

I spent one night here and found it very peaceful,by eight in the evening it was totally in silence until the next morning.
The facilities are adequate and clean. Pitches slightly sloping and nicely cut. I did notice traffic visiting the adjacent livery stables driving a little too fast, so a couple of 5 miles per hour signs wouldn't go amiss.
Seven pounds per night for myself and two dogs very reasonable

Have just spent 3 nights at this site on our return journey back home and quite frankly wished I hadn't. Our pitch was backed onto a road where cars and motorbikes roared up and down at night. The gate was never shut to the site and on one of the nights motorbikes came in and drove round the field.
I have seen better toilet facilities on a building site and having read previous reviews now dating back to 2008 you'd think something would have been done about them by now ! We chose to use our caravan toilet and shower and were thankful for the electric hookup to heat the water.
The farmshop was small and didn't have much choice and the girl did apologise for the lack of stock.
On the upside it is fairly close to the beach and about 5 mins from Tescos. We also had to use the local Doctors whilst we were there and they again were about 5 mins away and very helpful.

We spent 4 nights here during the first week at the start of the school summer holidays. We were given a choice of two pitches, one in the middle of the slightly sloping field and one at the edge in front of the trees with the road behind. Traffic was not a problem, just a passing car now and then. Campers came and went and there were a few others who seemed to be regulars who stayed there longer term. It was quiet when we visited although I was told that it was going to get busier.
My husband used the 20p showers and found them adequate, the free one was usually occupied although he tried it once and found the water pressure was poor. I used the free one and thought it was excellent with a good area to keep clothing etc dry. The toilets were fairly basic and I struggled to be comfortable but that's probably more an issue with me than the campsite. A couple of privacy cubicles would certainly help. Two washing up sinks which were always available when I wanted to use them.
The children's play area is big with plenty of space to run around and good equipment. The pets corner wasn't available but we were given carrots to feed the ponies which were in the garden belonging to the house. The on site shop is interesting but we didn't need to buy anything as Tesco was very close.
The site is along a lane which is not pedestrian friendly. We used our car each time we went out and found that although we felt like we were in the countryside it was only a couple of minutes drive before you reach the town. Its an easy walk to a lovely church called St Johns in The Wilderness (you can see it from the lower end of the field where the dog exercise area is)
I would use the site again as its easy to get to Exmouth and we could take a day trip to our favourite places - Teignmouth, Dawlish Warren. Exeter would be easy too.
