We spent the bank holiday weekend here with very mixed weather. 2 tents, 4 adults, 5 kids and a dog.

Firstly the positives, the views are superb! all the tent pitches are on levelled plateaus up the side of the hill so everyone has amazing views out to Barmouth, lovely during the day and looking out over the twinkling lights on an evening - beautiful. Also, the area is very very pretty the drive to Barmouth and out that way is beautiful.

We went to some lovely waterfalls and the beach one day and had a fantastic time. The campsite owners are often to be seen driving round the site and are friendly and helpful showing you where to pitch and offering advice on where to go. The pitches are a good size, but due to the layout of the them it wasn't as child friendly as some sites as it didn't really promote them running around and playing or riding bikes or scooters, some may see this as a positive of course!

Negatives are that the facilities are very basic. In the camping field there is one portable loo which towards the middle of the bank holiday weekend stank (only when inside it). On the edge of the camping area there is a toilet block which is a green portable cabin. In the ladies there are 2 toilets and 1 shower. Looking at the size of the gents I would imagine much the same plus some urinals. There are also 2 small hand sinks and no mirror. They are, however, clean enough and the showers are free and warm.

On the bank holiday we did find ourselves having to queue for showers. There is also another toilet block down the hill by the static caravans (very spacious static area compared to those that are normally crammed in by the way), my other half said that these were fine, though we were told the showers were £1, but I do not know that first hand from my party.

The only other negative was that on the Friday night it did rain very heavily and when we woke up in the morning and put away our blow up mattress water had leaked through the base of the tent and through the rugs down underneath it. This has never happened before and didn't happen any other night on our stay, but I do think that as the site is built on a hill with the plateaued pitches the rain must run down and then sit on the pitches. However, the rain was very hard so it may just have been unfortunate but as we have never had this problem before and have camped in the rain more times than I care to mention thought it worthy of note. Our friends did not have the same issue though on the pitch/plateau next to us.

All in all we had a great break and I would stay there again, though with young kids would possibly look for somewhere flatter with something for them to do.

The drive up to the top part of this site is v steep and owners with large/heavy caravans may find it difficult with 180 degree turn to negotiate. Also the drive needs some repair to the broken surface and deep potholes.

The toilets leave a lot to be desired, the lower ones were broken and very dirty. The top ones not very clean and the shower curtain is too short to hang in the tray and the water spills on to the floor (which does need to be cleaned). I would have been happy to mop up but no cleaning equipment is provided.

There is loads to do in the area, either on foot, bike, train and the views from the site are to die for but I think the charges are too high for the quality of the facilities provided and you are paying for the view.

Would be such a beautiful site with a little bit of TLC. Would not return in its present condition

Excellent site! We have a campervan, we were showed where we could pitch by the owner, it was a week day so very quiet! We had the most amazing views over the sea and Barmouth.

The toilets were clean, but as it was very quiet (only others in statics) I couldn't say what they would be like in summer. Showers were good too!

There was also plenty of space to do the pots with draining boards! The only trouble we had was that the site was on a hill, all the spaces are flat, but cycling from the site would be hard work, especially on the way back up!

Overall very pleased, good price, lovely owners, we will be back!

A group of three of us stayed here just after the bank holiday in early May. My first time camping!

The views are fantastic from here. It was also very peaceful (please keep it that way!). The owners never bothered us and trusted us to bring payment the following day when we arrived late on the evening. It's a great location to walk to Barmouth or Fairview (though this town is very small!)

The location was good for small groups of campers who like it quiet. If you take a tent, just bear in mind that it can get very windy because the gusts comes in straight from the coast. One night we were almost certain we would have to bail out of the tent because of gales: it was actually bent double. Amazingly it held out with lots of rocks on top of the pegs. This is the only downside of such great views.

Oh, and watch out for the hens at the farmhouse. They are a bit friendly!

We will definitely go back at some point.

We have just returned from this site after a four night stay.

The view from our tent was breathtaking and is probably the best vista in Wales if not Britain. We were shown to our pitch by a very friendly and helpful lady who I took to be the owner.

Toilets / showers and washing facilities were near by and quite clean, although rather small (one shower cubicle). Lots to do in the area including walks along the Mawddach and further afield.

Mountain trails (Cadair Idris), Pony trekking. Very safe sandy beaches at Fairbourne and across the river at Barmouth.

A little further up the coast you have Shell Island and the biggest sand dunes you will ever see - they're like mountains.

There is no shop on site although fresh eggs are available. A great site and we will be back in three weeks time.

We stayed here for 3 nights and very much enjoyed it. On arrival, we were led to the upper part of the campsite, which looked to be for tents and mobile caravans etc (static caravans lower down).

Given a choice of pitches, we opted for right at the top. The pitches on the hill are on terraces carved out and we were lucky enough to have one to ourselves. Nobody near - what a luxury!

As we had chosen the highest pitch, we couldn't complain too much about the loos and shower being miles away. It is a fairly steep hill but if you are able bodied not much of a problem.

The loos and showers were ok. I have seen better but they were adequate if not the cleanest in the world.

The owner was very friendly. We didn't really ask any questions but she seemed helpful enough.

The best bit about the campsite was the views. Absolutely amazing! It is even better than in the photos. The view over to Barmouth is unforgettable. We spent several hours just sat outside our tent gazing.

There isn't loads to do in Fairbourne but Barmouth (lovely, smart seaside town) and Dyffryn (fantastic beach) are an easy drive away and there's a train you can get too.

We also did a couple of walks in the lovely surrounding countryside. We have stayed in cheaper campsites with nicer facilities, but for the view, we thought it was an ok price.

Stayed here in a touring caravan for a week, with two boys in a tent. Had been slightly nervous about the toilet/washroom facilities having read other reviews but our experience was only good.

Yes there is only one toilet & one shower (male) but the whole time we were there they were clean, available & very functional.

The shower is one of the better campsite ones I have experienced with a proper 'dry' area for clothing.

The views are fantastic. The railway bridge to Barmouth (& some nice pubs) is easy & quick by bycycle. All the surrounding beaches are nice.

A very nice, relaxing place to stay.

Truly magnificent views of Barmouth, sea and the tidal estuary from this elevated site. Access to the site is via a very steep single track gravel road 1/3 mile long.

The touring pitches are located at the top highest point of the site with great care needed due to a switched back on this very steep and narrow access road.

Whilst the views are great, the site facilities are basic and unclean ! The ‘new’ toilet block for the touring pitches is a portable cabin / steel container with one shower and toilet in the male and two toilets with one shower in the female area.

Outside dish wash area under corrugated roof. The bins remained overflowing during our visit.

Fairbourne is 1 ½ miles away with surprising well stocked local shops. Barmouth is 2 ½ miles away via the railway / footbridge over the estuary – which is a toll bridge for pedestrians and cyclists.

An improvement on the access road and toilet facilities would make this a fantastic site – however, the views and tranquillity of the site saved the day.

We arrived at this site on a beautiful Monday and, as always, before checking in had a quick look at the loos/showers. These were marked for campers and I was not at all impressed and fully intended to turn around and find somewhere else. Partner had a word with somebody on the static site who pointed us further up the hill.

I have to say that the views won us over and also the fact that there were more loos/shower near to the top of the site which were cleaner than those below, although still pretty basic.

Pitches have effectively been dug out of the hillside and overlook the estuary. The site was pretty empty when we were there and we did have the feeling of being pretty secluded, though there were people camped above and below us.

Sadly our beautiful Monday turned into a horrible Tuesday when, overnight, the weather turned to the point where one of our fibreglass tent poles broke and we had to leave.

With regard to cleanliness the upper loos/shower were OK when we arrived and were actually cleaned that evening too. I can't comment on the lower loos/showers apart from on arrival as stated above.

We will return to this site despite the basic loos/shower - location wins!

We arrived on site and booked straight in at the farm house via the riding stables.

We were escorted up to our reserved pitch.

Amazing views of the estuary and Barmouth town, We could also see the beach of Fairbourne and could work out when the tide was out so we could take Cadair & Poppy (labbys) for a walk and a swim.

We were fortunate enough to have excellent weather and every night we had a bbq on the go after we got back from late afternoon walk along the sandy beach at Fairbourne. We sat and watched the most amazing sunsets over Cricceth and Pwllheli twinkling street lights with mountain range of Snowdonia National Park as back drop to a beautiful blood red sky.

My husband and I have wanted to walk Barmouth Bridge for the last 10 years and have never got round to it. If you park at railway stn you can walk or ride across the estuary to Barmouth (toll). It was easier and quicker to walk across to Barmouth than to drive, so we saved fuel and stress and Cadair & Poppy enjoyed it too.

The facilities on site are basic but clean. It was busy while we were there but I only had to wait for the shower twice. It was a brilliant HOT power shower.

We really enjoyed our stay and will be returning, along with some friends and family. Even if just to see another fab sunset.

Prices for Pony trekking are very reasonable and my Husband and I will be having a trek once we can find a doggie sitter for Cadair & Poppy
