Superb site with great facilities that look as new and are kept spotlessly.
Friendly wardens & very easy to access by road or bus.
Easy to reach the nearby beach on foot.

This is a really nice site, situated adjacent to the main road but with little noise from the traffic.
The amenities are in good condition and appeared new.
There are five pitches on heard standing with dome additional spaces lower down on a grassy patch. Lovely views over the bay as the site is fairly high up.
There’s a small shop a few minutes walk downhill on the way to a nice white beach, but it’s a steep climb back again.
The warden visits each day in the evenings.

This site is currently offering reduced capacity but has most facilities. It's the village hall really and run by the community but it's on the main road not in the village itself which is a walk down the hill to the shop, beach etc. Caravans and motorhomes park in the car park - currently spaced out but in 'normal' years it must be a bit cheek by jowl if they fill all the slots. Tents (and some campervans) are on the grass area below the amenity block.
There are a few unisex showers/WCs and a washing up sink plus an indoor kitchen area with tables and chairs, a kettle, sink and washer & dryer - it's all clean and very handy if you're camping and want somewhere to sit or eat or mix. The volunteer manager comes along every evening to collect fees and clean. There was plenty of sanitizer and cleaning spray around for Covid-19 prevention but remember all amenities are shared and it depends on everyone doing their bit.
The views are lovely but boy, did the wind howl up from the sea! It made putting a tent up quite a challenge and many pegs were used! There's an outdoor seating area below the tent field if the weather is nice. You're not too far from Howswick cafe and the lovely St Ninian's beach but for a supermarket, restaurant, pub etc it's back to Lerwick.

Totally agree with previous reviews, this is a great friendly little site. Although is on the main road there is next to no traffic noise by early evening.
We arrived to find 4 out of 5 pitches taken by early afternoon - its a very popular site with some pitches booked in advance by telephone. Showers / loos old but functional, very clean and 50p for 3 minutes shower.
A short walk downhill from site is Midway Stores, they seemed to stock a bit of everything you could think of. Walk further down and a lovely little beach (although its a hike back up to the campsite).
Pitches are generous enough for campervans / motorhomes, for a caravan you park the car in the car-park next to the hall. Tentttt area is down a small slope to which it seems you can take your car.
Lovely little site, well run by community from whom someone calls to collect your fee each evening - £19 including electric or £16 without electric.

Site is next to the Community centre (the old school) and run by volunteers to suport the centre. There are 5 hard standing pitches with EHUs and a sheltered field below for tents. All the fees go towards the upkeep of the centre.
It must be one of the friendliest sites of all time and John who is the volunteer who collects the money is so knowledgable about the local area.
You use the toilets and showers of the centre and there is a comfortable kitchen/sitting room for campers with washing machine and tumble drier.
There are ambitious plans to build new toilet and shower facilities and I have no doubt that with the drive of this community they will happen.
You need 20p or 50p for the showers and £1 coins for the laundry.
The views, when the haar lifts, are breathtaking.
Its situation makes it ideal to explore the south of Shetland, Sumburgh Head, St Ninians and Lerwick is not that far away in the other direction.
There is a farm shop with excellent cafe a couple of miles away.
A welcoming site which is a credit to the community who run it.

Lovely community site run by volunteers. This is next door to the village hall so if you're lucky, as I was, you might get invited to watch the children's band practice - they were amazing! Mr Sinclair is so friendly and helpful and calls every evening at about 7. 30 to collect money and chat. (Or there's an honesty box if you're not around then, Shetland is the most honest place ever!)
Lovely warm kitchen with tables for campers to gather and eat or just while away the evening, with dvds to watch and books to read. Ehu, 2 showers (20p) and nice clean loos. Really convenient for the South Mainland area, where there is just so much to see and do.
Worth popping down to Levenwick beach which is lovely, sheltered with some very curious seals. I wish I could've stayed longer - next time! Only gripe is the one I experience everywhere - I just wish there was a more tiered price system, I'm only one granny in a little camper, yet I pay the same as a family of 10 would in a huge van.
However, in this case the money goes back to the community so I don't begrudge it too much! I'll definitely be back to Levenwick though. Thank you.

The site is in a good location for exploring the southern mainland (Jarlshof, Mousa etc. ) and the view towards the sea is very pleasant. We were able to book in advance by phone and the warden was very friendly.
The facilities are attached to the community centre and are fine. There is a roomy kitchen area with tables and chairs. Bring several 20p pieces for the shower as you only get a few minutes for 20p!

What's not to like about this site?
It sits just off the main road between Lerwick and Sumburgh
It has marvellous views(when the mist isn't down) out to sea and to the beach where we saw Red Throated Divers.
The facilities are good, especially considering that it only costs £12/night for a van with hookup.
Support from the volunteer members of the Community group is first rate. John Sinclair was always friendly & helpful.
It's well located for buses and only a few minutes from a shop.
It's also well located for some of Shetland's remarkable sights - the night visit to Mousa Brochure for the Storm Petrels return is quite life affirming. Jarlshof and Bigton/St Ninian's Island were memorable too.

We have just returned from a weekend visit to Levenwick Campsite, on a fine day it commands stunning views of the area and a short car drive away we spent 4 hours of glorious sunshine at Levenwick beach.
We had a very large tunnel style family tent which cost £8 per night plus £2 for electric hook up, the money was collected between 7 and 8pm each evening by a very friendly warden. I liked this campsite due to the separate toilets and shower from the main kitchen. Which meant you had more privacy and didn't continually bump into other campers if you didn't want to, although we did meet some very nice people camping here from england and italy.
The main area has a kitchen with an industrial nyborg washing machine and a tumble dryer in addition to another newer shower and a great seating area to take in the view which was lovely.
Its raised location means it can be exposed to the elements, however we did tuck in close to one of the hills for shelter, our tent took a fair amount of wind the second night but we were all snug inside. I will return next year and had a great weekend with my family.
