Very friendly and helpful girl in reception. Shop was nice too and had everything needed. Pitches were a really good size and even with our large tent and porch we still had loads of room for kids to play on the pitch. We stayed quite near the main toilet shower blocks and there was no major issues with noise etc.

Showers / toilets were a little dated but of a decent standard and clean. Pool was great but a little on the cold side despite the weather being quite warm (+25) all holiday.

Despite the size of the place - number of pitches - it felt empty - which was nice - I think this was due to it's overall size and the generous pitches.

The lake was probably more suited to fishing than swimming as said before due to the algae. Saw a massive catfish jump up like jaws, I'm sure they would not touch humans but I certainly would not advise going into the lake in the buff!

I would ask for a grass pitch out of the woods unless you like the shade all day.

We have just returned from a French trip, we stayed here for 3 days during that time.

The site was nice, clean and very tidy, and our pitch was enormous, level grass with our own water supply.

Toilets were clean, unisex as on a lot of European sites, showers were also clean. The on site shop closed from 12. 30 until 15. 00, fairly good range of stock, although a little pricey.

Unfortunately the lake had green algae during our stay, which meant swimming in it was off limits, the pool complex is great for kids with flumes and several different pools. Lifeguard was not really on the ball though, and I doubt if he would have noticed if anyone was in any difficulty.

Lovely walks around the lake, generally the site was quiet at night, although we were woken up by a loud gaggle of teenagers at 3. 00 one morning.

Mini golf course, somewhat challenging due to incline of the greens, but fun anyhow, we also hired a go kart which kept the kids amused. We did not use the children's clubs here.

We would have enjoyed our stay a little more if we could have used the lake to swim

We have just returned from a lovely week at Parc de Fierbois. We would definitely recommend it and go again. It is very friendly, no bugs and quiet at night (after 11)

We have 2 boys (6 & 9) who loved it - they were never bored in spite of a few cloudy, and one rainy, days.

We had a very good size pitch (number 14) - flat, grassy and over 100m2 in size. We have an Outwell Vermont L which looked tiny and plenty of room for our car (S-MAX) and a large gazebo too. Our pitch was opposite the toilet block which I found very convenient although OH moaned about.

Would probably go for a pitch with a lake view next time. Electric points take EHU without adapter. Every pitch has its own water supply. All the pitches were separated by good size hedges and were nice and private. Our friends booked a Premium Pitch which meant that they had a little shed in the corner of the pitch which contained 6 seater set of plastic garden furniture and 2 sun loungers and a domestic under the counter size fridge freezer. And a kettle barbecue.

They found the shed really useful for storage and it never hurts to have an overflow beer fridge!

There was a mix of English, Dutch, Irish, French and other nationalities but all were very friendly. Some Canvass/Key Camp tents although they were distributed thinly among other pitches. Also motor homes caravans generally mixed in so there weren't cliques.

Pool and lake were great. Pool had 2 great slides which the kids loved. Areas for big and small kids well separated so no ones fun was spoiled. Plenty of sun loungers (although we spotted Canvas reps doing the early morning towel reserving trick - shame on you!) Generally less busy late afternoon.

There was always a life guard there and they struck a good balance of keeping it safe and enjoyable so not constantly telling people off. Swimming shorts allowed so no issues with guts spilling over the Speedos! All kept really clean.

Lake was great - zip wires, lots of fishing (it was like fishing in an aqarium with everyone catching something (mainly cat fish and some carp). Lots of dads taking their children for first fishing outings - very sociable.

Further down the lake is a nice little sandy beach which was really safe for paddling and swimming. Our kids and their friends had a fantastic time paddling their boat out to a platform in the middle of the lake and jumping in. Recommend bringing an inflatble boat for kids and rubber rings (or you'll only end up buying the €25 ones in the shop! Great little indoor heated pool - also very clean.

I thought the shop was well stocked for breakfast items (huge amount of breakfast pastries - about 90c each), beer, kids pocket money toys etc. Not great for salad, veg, meat so you'll still need to visit a proper supermarket offsite. Wine quite pricey and not very good which was disappointing for the region.

Nearest big supermarket (Intermarche) is about 10 min drive away in Sainte Maure de Touraine. Only thing we were a bit disappointed with was their fish selection.

Other kids activities included kids club which our 6 yr old loved (the 9 yr old wasn't interested). We didn't go to the bar much but there was a disco most nights - indoor so we couldn't hear it. There are loads of gocarts which the kids loved - €5 for 1/2 hour so they were rationed. Lots of kids also on scooters and bikes.

Toilet blocks were OK. Plenty of them and not smelly as some previous reviews have said. OH thought they could have benefited from a really deep clean while I thought they were fine and certainly no worse than some we have experienced on English camp sites. Plenty of hot water most of the time.

Only gripe was a toilet roll shortage for a couple of days which they could have managed better. Some other campers were furious about it - I suggest making sure you have a spare bog roll!

All in all it was a great place.

The toilet block is unisex which I can put up with but it smells ( wee and whiffy ) and needs a good clean, powerwash comes to mind, some tiles on the floors are broken. For nearly 2 days there was no toilet paper in most of the toilets, a few people were moaning, we just took our own.

The shower block has also seen better days, dirty and broken tiles. Needs a good jetwash. Never had to wait for a shower. Only used the showers twice, each time I got scolded, rest of the time used the vans shower.

We asked for a sunny pitch with water and drainage which we got, but there was no way we could access the hook up etc from our side, as it was over grown with weeds, brambles and bushes. We had to cut it all back.

Only went in the outside pool couple of times, the water was very cold. They did have lifeguards but he/she turned a blind eye to most things teenagers were doing dive bombing, jumping etc.

The indoor pool was small and just as cold.

The rope swings which we had a look at, the attendant was more interested in his phone than watching the children, one mother had to ask if her daughter was attaching the pulleys correctly.

The bar was clean and tidy, all entertainment is finished by 11- 11.15pm, some of the pitches by reception 102 - 107 might hear a bit of noise from the bar ( which we were one of them ) but it wasn't loud. There is a silence curfew at 10pm on pitches but it wasn't a noisy site anyway.

There is a night watchman in a shed by the main gates, which are open from 7.30 am to 11 pm.

The shop on site stocks a variety of food but is very expensive.

Staff in reception are very helpful and speak very good English.

Intermarche and Aldi is just down the road at Sainte Maure de Touraine.

Be careful going through Sainte Catherine de Fierbois due to the 2 speed bumps a few vans have caught their jockey wheel on it.

You might need a french 2 pin plug, depending on what pitch you get.

This is a good site for teenagers, our lads made loads of friends English, Dutch and French.

My family visited this site in August 2010. We had mixed weather. I had asked for a partly shaded pitch and we ended up amongst the trees with minimal sunlight - it was pleasant on a sunny day but as the ground amongst the trees is mud/sand - no grass, it was miserable when wet - I'd stick to a sunny pitch if you are going.

Firstly, we had a fab holiday, due to company and our own efforts, and I'm sure anyone going will do to. But I was disappointed with the site. I feel the manager is relying on the 'Les Castels' reputation and not putting any effort in.

All the staff were friendly, but there just wasn't enough of them. The lad in the bar was serving drinks, heating bar snacks and doing the till on his own and often the delay for service was ridiculous. The pizza takeaway was good, but again one boy making / cooking the pizas and doing the till.

The restaurant on site was overpriced and poor quality - you are better off BBQ'g. The pool complex and slides were excellent, but cold for todlers. As a typical mid-40's bloke with a good dappling of body fat, I was okay, but it was a cold pool for little ones and a degree or so extra heat would have made toddlers very happy. There was no pool-side loo either.

There were pedal carts to hie and plenty of activities on site, but the play area for little ones was ery basic for what is one of Les Castels most expensive sites. Unlike other Les Castels, the buildings are modern, no manor houses etc. The showers were plentiful, always hot and never had to queue, which was excellent.

The indoor pool is warmer and is adjacent to the lakeside beach. The lake itself does not look appealing to swim in, but I went in with the kids and found it warmer than the pool complex (Try not to swallow any though, it's murky and tastes yuk!)

The crazy golf is also at an extra price and it's expensive & rubbish - take your own putter and ball and play for free if you really need to.

The site is near St-Maure where there is an Intermarche and Aldi store for supplies, only 10 minutes in the car, and a very helpful vets if you have the dog with you for pet-passport issues. But it's miles form anything else for kids to see/do. Fine if you want to see the Chateau and vineyards though. The Auberge in St.Catherine is only 1 mile walk away and lovely food.

We had a good time,& I would not go back to this site. It would be so much better with a little effort from the owners. It is way overpriced for the effort the manager is investing.

We were lucky enough to have really good weather during our stay here as, I've got to admit, it must be a nightmare to keep children happy if it rains for any length of time as there's not much in the immediate area. However, it's pretty reliably good weather in the Loire I think so maybe not an issue.

We had a lovely big pitch although a bit too near the bar (11.30pm shouting of BIIIINNGGGOOOO wears a little thin eventually!)

Some of the pitches, however, seemed a bit grim, especially those opposite the loos which were pretty whiffy most days.Eugh.

The lake was my favourite place (despite seeing a massive rat - aargh - on our first night I still swam in it!) - there were lots of fish being caught and it was more relaxing than the pool. Our children loved the slides though in the pool area so it was good to have both options.

The loos etc were fine - lots of plug sockets and hooks (v. Important!)& well lit. We never have to queue for showers or toilets.

Would disagree with the comment about the shop - it seemed well-stocked & the prices were fine for an on-site shop. The staff were always friendly.

I would recommend a visit to nearby Loches & it's citadelle as a good place to visit - pretty quiet (as is most of that area - so weird compared to England) and nice food, shops & cafes.

We all said we'd visit this site again if we were ever in the area.

We have just returned from a week at this site and we loved it! Admittedly the weather helped it was gloriously hot and sunny apart from the day we left, with the temperature around 30 every day.

The pitches were generous with plenty of room for a caravan, awning and a car and still room left over for the children to play. We were pitched 2 mins from the toilet block one way and the same from the main complex in the other direction.

Our children loved the outdoor swimming pool and although it got quite busy it was never too bad, there were lifeguards watching the slides.

In the eve there is a small track and electric mini motorcycles which my 3 year old adored, we were there every night.

They have go karts for hire by the half hour/hour/day which are a great way to explore the site.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The only downside was the shop. It was barely stocked - lots of empty shelves and expensive, but with plenty of supermarkets just a short distance away it's not really a problem.

If you could guarantee weather like that again, I'd be back next year!

We visited this site for 3 nights in August. The prices were published on the gates as we drove in- 16 euro low season and 42 euro high. We had paid in advance over the internet on the Castels website. It is a very big busy and commercial site I'm afraid I could not see a chateau anywhere, maybe I did not look hard enough. We were allocated a pitch in the woods with the lake in view in the distance. Although this pitch was huge and quiet, I preferred to be nearer the loos, so we went back to reception and had chosen another pitch as we walked around, which was ok with them.

The pool area is lovely with slides and waterfalls, but no lifeguards so older kids all doing their swan dive impressions off the rocks and dads of younger kids losing their rags over it more than once, no sun beds to be had unless you are lucky, -but plenty of space and grass around about so we took our own chairs in. The play area was ok only for under 5s, and they have the full range of activities inc a skatepark/ archery /zip line. My son swam in the lake but it was too murky for me.

The nearest toilet/shower block had a long row of unisex loos which although looked clean smelt terrible, I think the cleaning may have been the bare minimum, however there was always loo roll and more than 1 block to go to.

We ate in the restaurant once (ok), and had a takeaway once (very good) and there is a supermarket on site. In the bar is the biggest collection of video games I have ever seen on a campsite- need a lot of euros to keep the kids going. All in all we enjoyed it but would try to go low season next time.

I would just like to comment on our holiday at your Park. We visited for 2 weeks in sept 2007. It was an excellent stay, the nearby town of Ste Maure de Touraine had so much to offer in terms of restaurants and bars. We were amazed by the friendliness of the French people, especially those in the nearby town and in Tours. Also the people at Eurostar went out of their way to help. The staff at the campsite were very helpful. The bicycle hire was most convenient for such a beautiful rural area to explore around the site. It is most child friendly as me and my wife found with our baby. The village of Fierbois is beautifully quaint with a lovely park for children and a nice restaurant for a stop off drink on the way back from the walk from the bus stop to the campsite. The bus service is just so reliable with buses running regular not to mention the friendly bus drivers! The Loire as a whole is a once in a lifetime experience that everybody must do if you love the countryside, excellent cuisine, wine, beer, friendly people, amazing weather and CHATEAUX! The chateaux are beyond words, you must explore it to believe it! We will be returning to France every year!

Arrived on site around 5pm after a 7 hour drive. Unfortunately the area had experienced high rainfall for a few days resulting in water logged pitches. We were unable to pitch and spent the night in a mobile home. Next morning as we walked around we realised that most of the pitches were simply unusable and we were told a lot of people had packed up and gone home. We felt on arrival that we should have been warned but they took our money and left us to it, we and our friends had young children we could have lost the deposit and gone else where but having paid decided to stay.
The site has excellent facilities and the pitches were huge. I have to add that the pool was freezing, we had swam in the sea in Britanny and in Biarritz both were much much warmer. The on site restruant was ok and the toilet and shower blocks were cleaned daily, the showers were hot.
The lake was a bonus our kids preferring it to the pool and our friend went fishing a few times averaging about 5 bites an hour. On the negative side this site seems to have a predominantly British customer base (keycamp, canvas, etc) this really did make it a noisy site both day and night.
The teenagers can hire pedal cars and they are a menace as the fly around the site crashing into anything that moves, there were a few near misses with our friends 3 year old daughter. Locally there is not much to do although the restruant in the village is excellent. If your prepared to drive a visit to Futuroscope (under an hour) is a must, there are also a number of chateaus within an hours drive.
We stayed at 4 sites in total and despite all its facilities this was our least favourite, its just too noisy and a bit remote
