This was our second visit this year it great locations for Donnington and visiting local area and family. The site was fully booked but was still very quiet with Linda and Jeff once again providing a great service, they are so friendly and helpful to ensure their guest enjoy their break. Again the facilities were kept spotless and they are always available, the fishing was again popular and Jeff is keen to help the anglers make the most of the fishing.
It is very peaceful and sitting back watching the fishing is very peaceful.
We will definitely be returning again

The site looks lovely with well established fishing pools and woodland. The facilities are adequate. We were situated on one of the hard standing pitches which unfortunately are located next to a very busy road and directly underneath the flight path for East Midlands airport - for us this was just too noisy. There is no access off the site for walking other than the busy road as the surrounding woodland is signposted private. We did walk to the next village across the fields but this involved walking for several minutes on the busy road which I would not recommend. The village itself was nice with pubs and an antique centre with other shops nearby. The pub we used was dog friendly.

We booked originally for August for MotoGP and Linda was very quick to notify us when this was moved to Silvestone before we paid our deposit which we were very grateful. When the opportunity to stay there for another event we didn't hesitate and booked for the Easter Weekend. Due to heavy rain Linda and Jeff worked really hard to make sure we could all get on site with EHU which we were very grateful. They could not be more welcoming and friendly they are always on hand without being intrusive. The site itself is beautifully kept and the facilities were kept immaculate despite the wet and mucky conditions. The site is very popular with local fisherman and is very quiet. We will definitely be returning.

My wife and I stayed at this site for a weekend break, is it is very local for us. The site is lovely and in general well kept. The owners are in the process of building an new shower and pot wash, which will be very nice when completed. There a 2 sets of toilets (1 ladies and 1 gents in each set). The new toilets near the top of grass pitches and cabins looked very nice. The older toilets near the hard-standing pitches need updating as they are old and cold. The hard standing pitches are quit close to the Ashby Road (B587) and because there was no leaves on the trees there was some road noise, this maybe better on the top field and when there are leaves on the trees.
We took a lovely walk over the fields into Melbourne where there are lots of lovely shops and places to eat. The road is actually safe to walk along as it has a wide grass verge and the drivers are courteous.
At £18 per night with electric hook up the prices are reasonable and I think we may stay here again but would like to see an improvement to the facilities.

Springwood Fisheries is a small camp site centred around a pair of purpose-built fishing lakes located about two miles south of the small South Derbyshire town of Melbourne.
There are a handful of caravan plots, some alongside reception with EHU and hardstanding, some on the far field on grass. There is also a line of newly-installed glamping pods.
As far as facilities go, there is a tap, recycling point and elsan disposal point (a drain lid behind the male and female toilets)
As well as an older shower unit in a corrugated shed, there is also a new insulated shower room (which adjacent washing-up station) that was having the finishing touches put to it when we stayed. The light in the new shower works on a motion sensor, so if you plan taking a prolonged soaking you may have to briefly open the shower door and wave an arms about to prevent yourself being plunged into darkness!
The caravan hardstanding pads are overdue for a fresh coating of stones, though the owners did say that they had newly-acquired the site and were in the middle of upgrading all the facilities (hence the new shower), so resurfacing these pads is probably one of those jobs on the 'to do' list.
There is a fairly busy road alongside the site, although it does quieten down at night. However, a more intrusive generator of noise is the presence of low-flying jets taking off from East Midlands Airport, which bank and climb overhead on their way to sunnier climes. Although there are few night flights, main flying operations recommence quite early in the morning (0545 hours on the Sunday we stayed!).
The National Trust's magnificent Calke Abbey, as well as the Staunton Harold Estate are only a few minutes drive away (or both can be visited on foot from the site on a day's circular hike around Staunton Harold reservoir). The motor and aviation museums at Castle Donington are also a short drive away.
Melbourne itself is an enchanting little town, though it has only a few small shops. Therefore, the nearest supermarkets for larder-stocking are to be found the market town of in Ashby-de-la-Zouch (there is a large Tesco superstore and filling station just off the A42 junction). Derby and Nottingham are also within an easy drive.
In summary, Springwood Fisheries is a great little site - obviously so if all-day fishing is your aphrodisiac. At £16 per night for caravan, ehu and up to four people it is also quite easy on the pocket. Otherwise, if you don't mind the passing airliners, then once the owners have completed their full programme of upgrades it will be an even more superb base for exploring South Derbyshire and North-west Leicestershire as well.

We stayed just the one night - Our very first in a motorhome.
It is a small site in a lovely setting and excellent if you are into fishing. We had a warm welcome and were shown to our pitch.
The motor home pitches have the main road behind so there is some traffic noise. You are close to Castle Donnington and unfortunately for us there must have been an event on and there was loud music until 4. 00 in the morning. Then there was a break until the aircraft started landing at East Midlands Airport from 06. 00.
It is not really possible to walk anywhere from the site so we were restricted to the site for exercising our dog.
The facilities are very basic but clean. It was Ok for a one night stay.

We booked an overnight stay at short notice knowing nothing about the site, however WOW great warm welcome from the owners on arrival nothing was too much trouble. Our pitch was fantastic right by the waters edge beautiful, the amenities are a little basic but clean and for the amount of people on site I never has to wait for a toilet. Dint use the café but looked lovely, fishing was reasonably priced and pleasant to watch even for non fishers. There are 2 awesome looking pods if you don't want to bring your van, they cater for caravans tents and motor homes. Great at night to see the wildlife, this was the quietest site of an evening I've ever stayed on during 6 week hols. Family of ducks very friendly too :)
The only negative I can give (and really didn't bother us I liked watching them!) was the planes go over very frequently but soon adapt to that and didn't cause an issue sleeping for any of us. On the whole brilliant site will definitely visit again, almost don't want to rave about it but keep to myself :-) seriously if you like peace and quiet this the perfect place

Just had a week with folding camper at springwood fisheries, its lovely place to stay, the owners are fantastic & will do their best to make sure you enjoy your stay with them. The site is kept clean & tidy. Upgrades to shower/toilet on going & more upgrades in the pipeline. I would recommend this site.

We only stayed here for one night on our way north but were very impressed with this site. It was very easy to find and the location was beautiful. The owners have put in a lot of hard work to make it so attractive with lovely views of the lakes from every pitch. The facilities are quaint but very clean and quite adequate We had breakfast in the little café before we left. Would certainly come here again if in the area.
