Stayed here over bank holiday weekend and found it a very peaceful and friendly site.
We stayed on top of field which was flat but site does slope slightly down towards the canal.
Site has one male and one female toilet and one shower, facilities although dated were clean.
Hot water for pot wash 20p and shower 50p,
We had ehu which we found very reasonable we used £5 for the entire weekend.
About 10min walk to nearest pub the water rat which is lovely situated on banks of the river. A further 5mins walk takes you into town of Ripon which has a host of bars and shops and a beautiful cathedral.
Would recommend this site if wanting a quiet peaceful break and we will be returning in near future

Stayed here for a few nights this month. The site had a rally on but the normal side of the site had about 8 units on. The smaller area was well tended with pretty flower borders etc.
There was only one toilet and one shower which were very basic but very clean. Certainly could do with improving to modern day standards.
It was easy to walk into Ripon but a shame the route along the canal path directly from the site wasn't accessible.
I think there may be some dog kennels very close by as we heard dogs barking very late into the night and again from early morning.
However, I would probably return to this site due to its close proximity to the town.

This is a delightful campsite close to the historic town of Ripon. It was signposted by one small sign on the road leading to it, and then one on the gate.
The proprietor warmly welcomed five very wet cyclists and made them immediately feel a bit better. The site was very clean and tidy, and the charges reasonable.
We had a pitch on a very slight slope, in sight of the canal, and had a lovely lot of song from the birds in the hedge at the back. One could hear the traffic on the main road, but it wasn't too bad.
The toilets were good and clean, and the paid-for showers worked well, probably better to pay for just what one needs.
We got directions to the nearby chip shop, but found that Wetherspoons had recently opened in the market square, about 1/2 a mile away, and went there.
I would certainly consider making a detour to visit Lockside again.

What a fantastic site, with the best hosts, owners & by the end of our stay friends Carol & Malcolm,
One toilet each for ladies and gents, with one shower 50p a shower,
EHU on card either £1 / £5 your choice use as much or as little as you like, we found we used about £1.70 in 24 hours, most sites now £3 per night,,
Excellent river / canal bank walks, maybe 1.2 mile nearest pub the water rat great beer and food, others very close, a good football pub the navy just a little further ( navigation )
Loads in ripon town centre it's self plus shops and cafe and women things to do,,
We went for a 6 day stay, found myself bed ridden after 3 days so left after 12 ! Malcolm and Carol made this possible I don't how but they did, fetching prescriptions food if required, checking on us day and night all whilst running the site immaculately, also while her own son was in ICU
I really can't thank this couple enough, thank you and we will be returning as many times as feasible

Cramped site. Not particularly Motorhome friendly, limited manoeuvring space when full, no drain point for waste water - campers had to use the elsan point instead.
Toilet facilities basic, 1 outside toilet male, one female, hot water to wash hands provided by coin meter, ditto for the single shower, but no washing up facilities - caravan rally on at the time, so queues built up for the facilities.
Short walk to centre of Ripon was one saving grace.

Visited this site February the 25th to 27th found the site clean and tidy and in a very, very nice location. We had a great weekend out and about in Ripon, lots of restaurants and pubs, and lots shops for the wife
However the toilet block is very basic with no hot water, basically a shed type effort nowhere to hang you coat and you get white dust all over your clothes of the damp walls. The toilets are clean but basic with massive gaps above and below the doors. The single 60w bulb is on a timer and I had just about enough time to get me zip down and off it went. No hot water available to wash pots, and the single shower room was out of order and locked up. Also when returning on and evening take a torch with you as there is no light left on to guide you home and believe me its pitch black.
The electric cards for the hook up are £5.00 each on top of your camp fees and mine ran out in under 30hrs and I was honestly only using a fridge and 12v trickle charger. My friends unit lasted under 12hrs,he was using a 1kw blow air heater and 240v lights and TV. We found this to be very expensive. I purchased a further £1.00 card as we wanted to use toaster and microwave for breakfast, made 4 toast and heated a tin of tomatoes up and had 60 odd pence left under 5 mins, my friends bought another £5.00 card and it to ran out before we left.
I would recommend the site if you have full facilities on board and you don't need electric hook up.

Just returned from a lovely weekend at Lockside.
The field is sloping down to the canal but is flat at the top,(where the electric hook up is.) The toilets are basic but clean and the shower is large and warm,(cooler this weekend would have been fab but you know the British weather). Fifty pence for the shower is ok if you are quick.
The walk on the canal to Ripon is lovely, seeing ducks and fish in the clear water is a bonus too.
Will be returning to lockside again in the future.

First time camping for me and wasn't quite sure what to expect. Borrowed our sons tent and booked up to stop here.
Quiet site and a warm welcome, toilets and shower adequate but might have to cross your legs in the peak season.
15 minute walk into Ripon and 10 minute drive to Morrisons.
If you go out for a walk in the evening take a torch with you as very dark.
Got the camping bug now and have just bought our own bigger tent am sure will come back here as very tranquil.

Stayed one night and found there was a rally of which we were unaware about, but the Camping and Caravan Club members of the Huddersfield DA gave us a very warm welcome.
Only one toilet each and the one shower as per previous reviews could be a little tedious at times waiting for others to finish.
No washing up facilities, no laundry we could see.
Longer vehicles be aware of very tight access to the site.
Nice canal walk (but you have to go the long way as no access from campsite). Ripon racecourse close by, and town within walking distance.
Great site.

Stayed here just before Easter weekend (31/03/10 + 01/04/10)
Very nice little Cl site. As per previous reviews one toilet each, which was not too bad until the 40 campers started to arrive on the Thursday. There was a rally in the bottom field, which put a stretch on the one toilet/ ( please queue this side LOL)
There is a very nice pub with excellent food called the Water Rat the site owners recommend. You must give it a visit. Outstanding service and food, and not too expensive either.
I would certainly go back to this site again but would ring up and make sure there are no other rallies on. The site over look Ripon Race course and is in easy walking distance, if you went for the races.
There is no play are for kids
