Stayed at this sight for 1 week in march weather ok the owners very friendly and helpful but the showers were not working. The toilet block had two toilets one for women and one for men, but no hand washing facilities. 15 minute walk to Ripon a lovely place. There is a great walk along the canal ideal for dog walkers. The site has changed the electric meters over to cards.

We booked a hardstanding pitch with porch awning and electric but when we arrived the only pitch available wasn't within reach of the electric hook up. As the hard standings are actually an extension of the road which stops half way down the hill, we had no choice but to drive onto the field and go back up to the top to find an alternative. We got stuck in the field which, although looked green and lush, turned out to be a quagmire. We were thankfully rescued by a neighbour with a 4x4.
Our 'greeting' wasn't at all warm after we found out that the water in the shower block was turned off (despite us asking if there were shower facilities prior to booking). When I pointed out that not only had we asked about the showers but also that they are advertised on the website, I was told we wouldn't find a site with working showers in February.
After a night with the electrics 'blowing' when we boiled the kettle or put the van heater on, we left early the next day

Very nice little campsite with a canal at the bottom of the field. Very tidy with flowers in borders and around the hookups. Warden is very friendly and helpful. The only down is the toilet, it is kept clean though it remind me of a yard toilet with cold water, if you have facilities in your van this isn't an issue. There is 1 toilet each and a shared shower (50p)
The site is a short walk (10-15mins)to Ripon restaurants and takeaways. Had a pleasant walk on the Ripon cicuit, following the canal. There is no access to the canal path from the site.

Nice little campsite, very friendly and helpful owners. £12 per night for two people in a 3-man tent, which is very reasonable. Toilet block has two toilets, one men's one ladies', one shower, a small room with a sink, and an outside sink for washing pots. Separate tap outside for drinking water. All kept very nice and clean.
Shop on site sells items such as long-life milk and fresh free-range eggs (£1.60 per dozen!). Owner gave us her own margarine as the shop didn't sell marge, which was very thoughtful.
Good drainage: despite heavy rain, the ground was still firm with no flooding.
Around a 15 min walk from Ripon along the canal. We attempted a river walk from a leaflet that we got in the Tourist Information centre, but unfortunately, because of heavy rain the previous day, we only got halfway as the path was flooded.
Few nice little restaurants in ripon, including a Thai place with a very welcoming owner. Pubs are decent, though there are no real authentic rural pubs. Wouldn't recommend the White Horse: off-tasting beer!
All in all very nice stay.

Was a great place to stop for a day or two but think the facilities would let them down if staying longer. It seemed quietish when we were there, with quite a few caravans and only 2 tents and ourselves on the main grass area. Was very cheap but the price reflected the poor facilities. Ample for a night or two,but with only one cupboard loo for each men and women with no wash hand basin! One shower cubicle which we 4 of us managed to shower and change in! Basin was outside, the same one for dishes, hands, teethbrushing and washing knickers out! Still we didn't wait for the shower had the kids enjoyed the space and walk along the tow path to Ripon. Would go back for a stop over. Look out for the fairy ring!

Arrived at Lockside on a Friday evening around about a week after all the flooding in Yorkshire and it was still pouring with rain so was expecting the ground to be pretty bad but was pleasantly surprised by how well it drained with no areas of puddles or water lying. My other pleasant surprise was the cost. - I was only charged £7.50 per night for an 8 berth tent for 2 adults with EHU. - That's almost unbeatable for a campsite nowadays ! The site is a Caravan & Camping Club Certified Site so you know that it meets specific criteria. The site itself was mainly populated by caravans or motor homes (there was only one other tent on EHU, but a few others without on the lower field) on pitches that slope down toward the canal with what appears to be only the top level of pitches on hook-up, but this didn't seem to deter anyone as the field was over half full. Lockside is sited just off the Thirsk / Harrogate road (the A61 I think) and is a very pleasant 15 - 20 minute walk into the centre of Ripon alongside the canal. ( I recommend visiting the Water Rat pub !) and Ripon itself has a number of decent supermarkets within easy reach of the site.( M&S Simply Food,Sainsburys & Morrisons.) If there are any minus points to go against the site, then the criticism can only go to two main factors. If you have small children, there is no play area for them. The other is the toilet / washing-up / shower block. - There is only one ladies and one gents toilet, one shower and one washing up sink (which didn't have any hot water) - If these are improved upon, then it would get top marks. So, if you are looking for an all singing, all dancing kind of site with a club-house and entertainment laid on, stay away from here. But if it is a relaxing time in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside with close access to a pretty town and you don't mind a few minor 'hardships' then Lockside is for you.

We spent the weekend here on a meet and had the best time. It's a lovely site, Even with all the rain we've had, the grass was like a bowling green. We we're at the top of the site which is flat, and the pitches at the bottom looked nice and flat too and right next to the canal. In between there is a bit of a slope, but looked okay. They have a hut which they let us have use of - thankfully - an escape from the rain. They have a shop selling the essential bits and bobs, which I always forget. There is only one loo and shower each for men and women but even though the site was fairly busy it wasn't a problem. It's pretty easy to find the site too, but the last turning into the site isn't really well signposted and it looks as though you're going into someones drive - keep your eyes open!
