This was our first visit to Camping La Fortinerie and we were not disappointed. It is a quiet site set in a beautiful rural location. If you want to 'get away from it all' this is the site for you. John and Mary the owners made us feel most welcome and were always pleased to help if needed. Places of interest such as Saumur and Angers are also within easy reach of the site.

A level well drained site set in a lovely quiet location on the edge of a forest, yet within easy travelling distance of Saumur and other places of interest. Friendly welcoming owners and we enjoyed two weeks of total relaxation.

Lovely rural site set amongst the trees only a few pitches but as John our host said 'pitch anywhere you like' which is just what we did. Visited some lovely places some on the suggestions of other campers. Thank you to the couple from hull who gave us so much advice on the area sorry we missed you when we left. Hope you got the note ? please feel free to get in touch. Anyway as said before a lovely quiet site within a rural location. Many thanks. Phil and dee

After our first stay on this small and quiet campsite we decided to see if our experience of last year was correct. Indeed, the site and our stay met with our expectations. The perfect hosts John and Mary were there when needed and 'disappeared' if everything was all right, except for a small chat every now and then. We enjoyed every minute of our stay, even when thunder and rain came to try to spoil our days. We visited some of the villages in the region with old churches, lovely old cottages and of course we enjoyed the French food in Mouliherne.

Well what a place to stay. We have just spent the most amazing 15 days on this lovely site in the Loire valley situated just 17 miles from Saumur. It's the 1st site ever that we really didn't want to leave. It's a mecca for any wildlife enthusiast with more cuckoo calls heard in this time than I've heard in my entire lifetime. Add to that the Golden Oriole, Black Redstart, Turtle Doves, Garden Warbler, Blackcap, Mistle Thrushes and a whole host of others with Secadas (sp)chirping away you could have easily believed you were in the tropics. The site was very quiet, located in a rural area and with the friendliness of John and Mary we couldn't have asked for more. We visited some stunning chateau's (all very different) and the trogolodyte caves of the area all again with very different characteristics. If you are into horses then you have the Cadre Noir in Saumur. A real must but sadly we missed the only show of the month but then, that is reason enough to revisit this wonderful site. The site is 320 miles from Calais on the absolutely fabulous Peage roads or if you have more time on your hands then a few more miles via the N a D roads most of which outclass the UK roads but a large margin.
The site is extremely well cared for, so go on, have a nice relaxing break in this lovely part of France, go there now!

We stayed in our tent for some 15 days at Camping La Fortinerie and we loved each and every minute, notwithstanding the days that rain came down like a curtain of water. Mary and John were there for information, for sharing some lovely plums and for a chat. Hospitality was great and the quiet spot of the campsite made us decide to stay one week longer than planned. Thanks John and Mary for letting us stay in you lovely flat the last night so we could pack our heavy tent when it was still dry.

Stayed on this site for 7 nights in July, and we could have stayed another 7! We were the only outfit there at the time, but John & Mary couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.
As stated previously, this lovely, quiet, site is in the orchard to the side of the owners house, and can accommodate 6 outfits. The shower and toilet are in the old donkey barn, and were immaculately kept the whole time we were there.
As the site is deep in the countryside, a car is essential, although on lovely sunny days, it was nice to just chill and relax. The site is an ideal base from which to visit the attractions of the Loire.
All in all, a great site, with great owners.

Stayed for 9 nights and loved it. Total peace and quiet, (we were the only outfit on the site for most of the time) apart from the lovely dawn chorus from the birds - even had deer in the field one day. It's a typical CL, a large field with some shade, a loo, a shower and an outside washing up area. You can even get free WiFi.
John and Mary are lovely, there if you need them, but they don't interfere.
Lots to see and do in the area, although as you are in the countryside it does require a drive to get to them, Saumur takes about 15/20 minutes to get to, but the little village next door is only 4/5 minutes away and has most of your daily needs catered for.
We would definitely recommend it.

We booked at La Fortinerie on the basis of the other excellent reviews on this site - and we were not disappointed. John and Mary welcomed us warmly - and we spent 8 of the best camping nights we have had at this wonderful and peaceful site. At a time of year when many people visiting French sites complain about overcrowding we had masses of space. The facilities (in the old converted donkey shed) were clean and spacious. Hot water was always available for washing up and showers. It was a great base for exploring the Loire and bread and groceries were available in the nearby village. We will certainly return one day.

Typically, most often the nicest campsites are the ones you come across by accident! We turned up at John and Mary's when another campsite I had hoped to stay on nearby, turned out to be full on our arrival. I can't describe how lovely, peaceful and 'French' it is at Les Fortinieres, there were four other guests staying, in tents and caravans, but we slotted in easily and didn't feel cramped. We ended up staying for 2 nights rather than the one planned, and were able to do some washing and airing as well as relaxing and imbibing. The site was beautifully mown, and the facilities (in the old converted donkey shed) were clean and airy. Weren't able to do much sightseeing, but a couple of evening walks were enjoyable and I was quite sad to leave. Would definitely return.
