We arrived on a Sunday evening about 6 pm after a long drive, without having booked, to a lovely, warm welcome from Pascal and Florence. This set the scene for the next 10 days. Their whole ethos is to make sure that every single guest has the best holiday possible. Any problems (few and far between) are sorted promptly and with a smile, Florence's motto being 'one problem, one solution'! They set up a television in the marquee for the world cup matches and even provided some free alcohol and free drinks. Service indeed! Florence speaks excellent English but both she and Pascal were very patient and encouraging with my attempts at my 'schooldays' French.
We had a serviced pitch which was large and sunny, although the non service pitches, mostly set out in a circle, are a bit smaller, particularly those in the inner circle. The toilet and showers were always spotless and there are facilities for the disabled. No shop (although they do sell ice creams) or bar on site but a small supermarket, bakery and bar, less than 5 minutes walk, literally. Good medium sized supermarket in Coex and huge hypermarket in Aizenay. Easy drive to the coast and to the Ile de Noirmoutier. The mobile homes are grouped together in the bottom half of the campsite, slightly apart from the camping pitches, and the owners were the friendliest we have met. Plenty of wheeled toys available for little ones plus a children's playground and the pool looks very inviting, although we didn't use it. A great site for little ones although the few teens there were, seemed to entertain themselves quite happily.
We are a family of 3 adults, one of whom is a wheelchair user and all we want is a quiet, welcoming, friendly campsite which in early July is exactly what we got in bucketloads at Camping Val de Vie.

This was our 2nd stay on Val de Vie, and it was a complete success :) The lovely owners and their children were great hosts, and the cleanliness and very high standards on site were consistent with what we enjoyed last time.
The pool is cleaned daily, has great sunbeds around it, and is safe for children. The facilities are all kept perfectly hygienically and I really cannot say anything other than positive! I highly recommend this site.
The location is perfect for a base in the area. The local village is lovely, and I particularly recommend that you see as much as possible of this place. So much to do. Shopping facilities are more than adequate and bigger shops are just a short drive.
We can't wait to return, and without a doubt it will be this year because of everything above :)

I have just returned from a great 2 week holiday staying at Camping Val de Vie, it was my first time there and found it fantastic. The owners Pascal and Florence are so welcoming, the site isnt too big so has a personal touch and its great for children. We had a 9, 7 and toddler with us and all our needs catered for; great heated swimming pool (which is tended to on a daily basis), park (with toys for all ages), campsite bikes & trikes and even a bouncy castle!. Pascal and Florence host a weekly petanque competition which gets the campsite residents all together for the adults to meet and have fun. Personally I was impressed with their attention to cleanliness to the bathroom and washing facilities.
Thank you to Pascal and Florence for all your hard work and thought that has gone into making a successful campsite.

Second visit to this delightful site and it gets better each time. The French owners are the perfect hosts. With a mixture of static homes, touring caravans and tents, the site feels spacious and never cramped in. There's plenty of room around the pitches with low hedges and small trees that don't appear to deposit any sap from above. The facilities are spotless as is the pool area and there are plenty of activities to keep the younger visitors entertained. Because this site is located a little way inland from the busier tourist areas, it benefits from delivering a more authentic French feel with none of the sometimes tacky tourist trappings of the larger sites. The delightful village centre has a tabac/bar, small general store, great bakers, cash point and a small petrol station/garage. It's only about 5KM from the town of Aizenay which lies on several arterial roads that will quickly take you north, south or west to the coast, plus there is a huge HyperU supermarket that sells, well everything!

My wife and myself have been to this site a number of times and it to be absolutely brilliant,
the owners Florence & Pascal are really welcoming and can't do enough to help, facilities are excellent,
pool is lovely particularly on those scorching summer dates, haven't been.
For a few years but I need to go back if only to sample the hospitality, one word brilliant. Paula&Barry.

I can only echo the good comments made by the previous reviewers. We only stayed here for 2 nights enroute from the Dordogne to Brittany, but would have liked to stay longer.
Nothing is too much trouble for the owners & they keep the site immaculate. The facilities are shared by the sexes but there are plenty of toilets/showers/cubicles - even a special one for children/babies with a small bath and pictures on the walls.
Reception has fridges & bbqs for hire and a decent library of books in English to borrow. Wifi is charged in 24hr units and coverage is good. The pool is immaculate, with several loungers and there is a sandy play area for children.
Pitches are standard or large but all are big enough for a caravan & awning; large ones have 10amps (not 6) of electricity and their own water tap. There are also holiday homes for hire.
The small town of Mache has a bar, boulangerie, boucherie & small supermarket, and a very pleasant walk down to & round the lake (5 mins from the site). Large supermarkets are in Aizenay (8 mins drive) or Challans (15 mins). The coast is only 20 mins away, with all the expected facilities of holiday resorts.
For a peaceful, relaxing holiday, this site gets 10/10.

We have just returned from two weeks camping at Val de Vie, last week in July, first week in August. This was the first time we have camped abroad, but have camped lots around the UK. What an absolute gem this place is. We purposely chose a smaller campsite to avoid the on site entertainment, bars and huge water complexes that bigger sites offer.
The site owners could not be more friendly, welcoming and helpful if they tried and it is a real labour of love for them, they clearly love what they do and this shows.
The facilities are immaculate and I can echo the previous comments that they are cleaned umpteen times a day and there is always a plentiful supply of hot water. There are disabled and family bathing facilities and there was never a queue to use the showers.
Beautiful undercover dishwashing facilities and great clothes washing sinks and a washing machine provided too for a small fee. Again these facilities are immaculate.
There is a reasonably sized pool with sun beds, a great play area for children and bicycles and go karts are provided for use around the site. My boys enjoyed the table tennis and the table football. We had three teenage boys in our party and they never once complained of being bored.
The pitches are mostly level and divided by hedges with some having trees which was a godsend for us in the first week when temperatures reached 37 degrees! Many of the people staying at the campsite have returned year after year and I can totally see why. It means there is a very friendly, family atmosphere and my son commented it felt like home because everyone was so friendly.
The village of Mache is a great central location, being a 30-40 minute drive to some fantastic beaches, Sauveterre is definitely worth a visit, particularly if you are after surf. And the beautiful port of Les Sables D'Olonne is unmissable. The village has a well stocked shop (opening times vary depending on the owner!) and the boulangerie is open every day. There are two bars, one selling pizza. There are supermarkets close by with a huge Hyper you and Lidl at Aizenay.
The site is truly perfect if you are after a quiet, relaxing, family orientated holiday in peaceful, beautiful surroundings. I will most definitely be returning next year, something I have never, ever done, no matter how much I've enjoyed my holiday. A bientot, Val de Vie!

We spent 4 nights at the Val De Vie campsite in July. The toilets and showers were spotless as was the rest of the camp. There is a nice swimming pool that some people were using but most of our stay it was raining so we did not use it.
There is a nice little village with 2 bars and a bakers a short walk from the camp, and in the other direction you can walk or bike ride along the river.
The camp is well worth a visit

Well, where to start? We have just returned from our very first camping holiday ever, and we went to Val De Vie in Mache, France. It was fantastic from start to finish. We didn¡¦t want to go home, which was amazing for us as by day 10 of any other holidays (and we have done some luxury travel in far east etc) we are ready to go home to Wales. Not so on this holiday. We had never camped before and took a gamble with a two week camping trip and needless to say we were not disappointed.
The toilets and showers were totally spotless and cleaned umpteen times per day. Hot water day or night, whether busy or not. We travelled with our two year old daughter who hates showers and there was a nice large baby bath sink at a good height level for ease of bathing, and a toddler training toilet in the same room. My daughter loved bathtime (and so did I she was permanently grubby!). The site had a lovely play area and we were situated opposite that. It was a quiet site at night time, which meant that we were able to settle our daughter and other children could settle well on site at night time, although she would often play until way past her usual bedtime, which was also fabulous. The owners were so kind and helpful, it felt like a home from home.
I would certainly highly recommend this site to anyone of any age, but travelling with a small child (age 2) it was simply perfect and we will be going back next year. We have never had a holiday in the same place twice ¡V but this will certainly be the first of many!
Price wise, around 20- 25 Euros a night (dependant on season) inc electric to the tent. Larger sites on the beaches nearby can be double that and travelling with a young family, I think that those sites would be very stressful, too much going on late into the night and you¡¦d need eyes in the back of your head too. So we chose this site being slightly quieter but close to all amenities, day trips, wonderful beaches etc. I feel we made the best choice ever in campsite. It was small enough to be spotlessly clean and large enough to be able to mingle with other campers and play boules etc and not be bored out your box!
Location wise, in Mache there is a good little shop, reasonably priced, also 2 bars and a boulangerie. This really is 300m from the site as advertised. Previously, when staying in other types of accommodation, I have found the proximity estimations to be pure works of fiction, and this one most certainly is as advertised. Just perfect. There are amazing beaches within 30 mins drive and some lovely small towns and restaurants nearby too. Large supermarkets and a Lidl¡¦s at Aizenay within spitting distance. Lidl¡¦s wine is cheaper than milk (!) and very, very good indeed!
When we arrived, we had a little trouble pitching our tent ¡V we hadn¡¦t managed to get it out the bag once since buying it since we have been deluged with rain for weeks on end, and my husband tried to do it single handed and I had a fractious toddler climbing all over the tent! From nowhere, the owners popped up and assisted with no trouble at all and our little home was ready within minutes. Then, it was really hot and a neighbour popped over with a couple of cold beers and that was our holidays started! We found our first camping trip a learning curve but the THE most enjoyable and relaxing holiday we have EVER had on this wonderful site. And like I said we were total novices at the camping lark, and previously had long haul luxury holidays so this really is a glowing review of camping in general but mainly the site making it so easy for us. By day 4 we were virtually horizontal with relaxation!
The site was extremely friendly and has many visitors who come year after year, and I can see why, and we shall be joining that long list of repeat customers! So in a nutshell, wonderful owners, amazing people on the site, made lots of friends, suitable from ages 0-100! Fabulous!
One small thing that I guess all campers know (apart from us newcomers to this game) is bring your own loo roll though ;) Another small tip is buy a camping fridge in france not UK. Way, way cheaper at the hyper U. Got ours for 44 Euros. Was pleased in retrospect I came totally un-prepared lol! Happy days, cold beers in the evening
Oh and there is s spotlessly clean pool, table tennis and other games like table football as well as trampoline, kiddies park etc

We stayed at this small campsite for 10 days this year. The new French owners of the site (since October 2010) have undertaken a revamp of previous equipment for example children's playground and swimming pool areas. The toilets, showers and facilities are excellent and cleaned daily to a high standard. During our stay the resident owners could not do enough to enhance our stay. We would highly recommend this site for tents, caravans and motor homes It is a lovely level site with grassed pitches individually divided by shrubs and trees. There is easy access to water and electricity. The campsite is located in the small town/village of Mache. There is a bar, bakers and small supermarket within walking distance. There is a major Hypermarket just 5 kilometres away in the town of Aizenay. It is an ideal location from which you can explore the coast and Vendee region of France. We look forward to returning in the near future.
