This is a lovely site, and the farmer is very nice and chatty. It is a 'Quiet Site', though we did know beforehand there was a 30th birthday party in the other field, so it didn't disturb us too much. But I think the farmer is in the process of making his mind up what kind of site he wants to have.
As a 'Quiet Site', it's gorgeous. The composting toilets were great (loved the head of garlic hanging in one!) with sawdust provided instead of flushing. They were clean and smelt of sawdust. There is only one big Belfast sink for washing up and cleaning teeth, which is a slight drawback.
The showers were hot and clean and my clothes did not get wet while hanging up.
You're out in the back of beyond, but there's a cashpoint in Chew Magna and a decent pub with an Indian restaurant in Chew Stoke. There's also a Spar in Harptree. Josh Eggleton has both the Michelin-starred Pony and Trap a couple of miles away and the Salt & Malt fish & chip restaurant at Chew Lake.
There is no noise from the airport, you can see the planes descending to land in the distance (and taking off), that's all.
It cost £7 per person plus £5 for the car(which isn't mentioned on the website). A huge wheelbarrow of firewood that lasted all evening was well-priced at £5.
For me it was a double treat of being a tents-only site and a site where dogs are not allowed (because it's a working farm). And there is no electric, but we brought our own.
Dear Mr Farmer, please opt for a 'Quiet Site' and loads of us quiet people will come to chill in your field.

Don't visit this campsite if you are expecting all mod-cons - but DO VISIT if you want peace and quiet, friendly owners and beautiful countryside! As stated in previous reviews, the proximity of the airport is not at all intrusive and mostly all that can be heard are the usual countryside noises - lovely cows in the next field, and owls at night and birdsong during the day. The facilities are basic but very clean. Cooking breakfast (bacon sandwiches) on the morning of departure, the farmer asked if we liked mushrooms, and then proceeded to jog up the field and then handed me four beautiful mushrooms, turning the breakfast into a feast! A tip for your SATNAV - it might say you have arrived at destination, but you need to go further down the hill. An excellent brief stay but I'm sure we will be back.

Cycling from the north west of England to the south coast, we were most fortunate to encounter Mike and Mary’s eco campsite at their Walnut Tree Farm. A lovely location tucked away in rural Somerset, a kind and generous owner and fun facilities. By far the best stop on our route. If you have a good GPS, enjoy green seclusion, peace and eco-living, this is just the ticket for you. By far the best stop on our route. Very highly recommended.

Lovely site, compost loo, sink with cold tap. Nice showers. Owner great; stops to chat if you want and full of local knowledge. Great site for Bristol and surrounding area. Quiet site, airport no problem. Organic farm and horses in the lane. Loved this quiet site, will return in the summer. Great value for money, and lovely surroundings.

This is way and above my favourite camping site despite camping every night of the week all over the country as part of my job. It is absolutely fantastic if you want real countryside but not be in wilderness. Definitely away from the madding crowd. Yes airport close but not in your face and peace not disturbed. Road so barely used also not a problem. The eco loos were a pleasant surprise - felt more hygienic and clean than usual toilet blocks. Certainly no smell even in the summer when I visited. The showers are piping hot water and spotless. Have requested a small heater for winter months for shower room so fingers crossed! Owners are as nice as everyone has said. This is not a site that would suit a townie who wants all the facilities but that's why I love it so much. Room to become human again!

Although only 4 miles from the airport and about 8 from Bristol you could be in the middle of nowhere at this lovely site (albeit with the odd roar from aircraft taking off, but this stops after about 10. 30pm).
The owner is a very laid back and hospitable host and in no way obtrusive but is always about if you need him. Great with the kids and a big thank you for the tractor rides!
Simple compost toilets worked well (no smell) and the 2 showers were spotless (newly tiled too!).
This was the first site we came too for our week in Somerset and we didn't look elsewhere. Maybe a bit too north if you want to explore but the site more than makes up for it.
Expect lots of wildlife (we saw Buzzards and Herons and lots of Swallows/Martins and heard owls and foxes) and the local cows on the other side of the fence!
Although nothing specifically for children there is plenty of space for them to play in. My kids had a great time.
The only thing I would change/add is maybe some hot water to the toilet sink for washing up.
I love these simple laid back sites and as Ad Harris mentioned long may these sites remain!
We can recommend the Crown about 1 mile away with good beer and reasonably priced food (BIG helpings!) and beware the sweet b&w cat which is extremely friendly (she nearly came home with us!).

Stayed here camping for 4 nights. Owner very friendly and informative. Surrounded by rolling hills (a working farm so expect cattle roaming in adjacent fields). Great place if you're looking for the peaceful campsite, and for our time it was certainly that, just us in the whole field until our last night. The campsite is on a very slight hill with enough flat space for a number of tents. The bunkhouse is ideal for 'glampers' or families which is tucked away down a slope with it's own garden area.
For our entire stay we had the company of a young cat, from pitch-up until we departed. According to the owner no one knew who she belonged to but she was always roaming the fields. She shared our tent every night making herself comfortable on a spare blanket and was always there after we came back from a day out. Extremely social and approachable feline ! Being the only campers there for most of the week we had no problems using the facilities. Two composting toilets and two showers. Always clean and plenty of hot water. A wheelbarrow full of wood and kindling for campfires at £10. Bristol Airport a few miles away but traffic noise is minimal, definitely didn't take anything away from the campsite ambience.
Enjoyed the stay and the feline company, will most definitely visit again.

Peaceful rural site, nicely grassed and mown. We arrived on touring bikes and camped. Just off the Sustrans 410 Avon Cycle Way, so ideal for bike touring. Mike is keen to improve the site for cyclists and took on our ideas for basic facilities for touring cyclists; tables, covered area etc. Clean eco friendly toilets and great showers. Close to The Crown, good beer and good value meals. Co op is 3 miles away and local store 2 miles.

Perfect campsite for a relaxed rural stay, the genial host was very welcoming, but in no way overbearing.
Thoroughly adequate washing/toilet facilities,
Excellent non 'glamping' site, long may these sites exist!
Local villages have pubs, unfortunately many of which seem to have mutated into ghastly unwelcoming 'gastropubs' run by bellowing toffs, but luckily local scrumpy is available in the co-op.

I stayed here for a single night this May whilst visiting Bristol. The facilities must have been improved since the last review as there are now excellent showers. There are compost toilets - but really well kept and clean.
The site is incredibly peaceful - hard to believe it is so close to the city. It is part of an organic farm, with pitches mown out of the meadow - you're surrounded by birdsong and flowers. A really warm and welcoming site - just lovely.
